The ALG methodology turns language learning into a test of monastic patience, prioritizing cognitive purity over practical utility. It is a fascinating experiment in discipline, though it treats human effort as a bug rather than a feature.

950 Hour Dreaming Spanish Review追加:
What's up, grinders? Welcome back to the channel. Are you ready for the 951 hour update of Dreaming Spanish? I gave you a bonus one hour again. We're almost there. We're almost at 1,000 hours. So, we are up to video 20 in this series.
And you know, when I pulled this up my playlist, I noticed something interesting. Check this out. When the series started, all the thumbnails were dark. Like they were just like I literally looked like a Sith Lord. And as it's progressed, they've started getting lighter and lighter and happier and happier. Maybe this is a an indication of both my progression in language skill and in mood. The further towards the end of the series, the happier we are. So, during my 900 hour update, I posed a very, very, very important question for all of you guys.
See, I explained that Dreaming Spanish implements a methodology. That methodology is called ALG, Automatic Language Growth. Now, most of you are unaware of this, but it does not matter because our old mate Pablo from Dreaming Spanish, the founder, has actually spoken about how they implement this method ALG, and he's provided us short little description here and how it's inspired him and even provided backlinks to a book on the method, okay? Now, the thing is, the Dreaming Spanish implementation of ALG up until about 1,000 hours is roughly the same as the traditional route. Although, the traditional route was completely in classroom. But at 1,000 hours, that is where it diverges quite a bit, okay? If you have a look, we've got the road map right here. At 1,000 hours, uh they basically say that you must start speaking. You must start reading. You You can do it at 600 hours, but by 1,000, that's where you've got to be doing it, okay? This is actually different to what ALG recommends. In fact, in ALG, there's no point by which they recommend that you must do something. What they say is, uh if you feel like you have you are trying to do something, then it's too early. You shouldn't be doing it. You should just let it naturally come out. That means speaking, okay? And reading actually comes much after speaking. The idea being that you're able to both hear and speak the language before you pick up a book and start trying to verbalize the contents of that book, okay? So, it does diverge quite a bit. So, I was faced with a question because, you know, I've been testing ALG via Dreaming Spanish, but now Dreaming Spanish diverges from ALG, what should I do? So, I asked all of you guys and your comments have come in. The series is named Dreaming Spanish review. Just logistically, I think it makes more sense to continue along the Dreaming Spanish path. Just another vote for follow DS. Go the DS route.
Uh I vote Dreaming Spanish version. Vote Uh for Dreaming Spanish path. I think just follow the Dreaming Spanish route.
I think you should go DS. So, as you can see, it's like 95% or more of all comments, okay? And then like the vast majority of all likes indicate that you guys want me to follow the DS implementation of ALG. Therefore, moving forward, I'm not going to call it ALG anymore. I'm just going to call it the DS route. And I keep rubbing my eye cuz I I'm pretty sure something's gotten into my eye all of a sudden. But, we're just going to power through this. We grind the eye if we have to. So, what have I done over the last 50 hours? So, here you can see I've done roughly 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours a day, which has actually been not too difficult for me because, well, my wife is currently in China and she won't be back until next Monday, my time. So, I've had time to do a lot of Spanish. Now, a big portion of my time has actually been spent on doing crosstalk. We are up to 19 hours of crosstalk. I really hate how Dreaming Spanish does not have a separate section to log crosstalk hours.
I hate the fact that they're logged straight under talking with friends because I get it, they don't want to like look like a teaching methodology, so it's just talking with friends. But, realistically, crosstalk is separate from actually using the language, so why is it not logged separately? And I think if it was logged separately, it would tell potential users of this service that, "You know what? Yeah, we mentioned crosstalk within the descriptions here, but it's actually kind of important."
And in fact, I I think they should actually have crosstalk under here saying how many hours you've done of crosstalk in total. Like somewhere just listed straight up here, you know, hours outside the platform, hours on the platform, whatever. Like just to show that it is actually important to the methodology. Anyway, I've had my little ranting. What crosstalk have I done?
Well, I've done my series with Spanish Boost Gaming as you guys have seen before. Uh but I started another series with this tiny ass little YouTuber right here with only 2.1k subs. This guy in his Patreon has like a thousand hours of gaming content and comprehensible Spanish. It's a batshit insane that barely anyone knows about his YouTube channel. So, go check out his channel and sub to it and check out his Patreon, of course. And naturally, I have been utilizing him >> [laughter] >> to do crosstalk. And we've been playing a game together called um uh what's what's it called? Split Fiction. You know what? I'll open up a little bit and watch a tiny bit together.
Oh, I got to swap sides. [laughter] Oh, my bad.
Okay. Okay, I've got to move. Okay, cool. Okay. You ready? Let's go. Boom.
Almost. Okay. And I guess while I'm at it, I'll just show you a little bit of content from my series where uh we actually just kind of have conversations while playing a shooter together. This is with Martin from Spanish Boost Gaming.
So, Okay. Okay. So, I'm just going to keep that in mind while I'm watching him. Yeah.
Okay. So, essentially, if you want to watch any of those series, uh they are member-only series, so you can just hit that join button down below. Now, before I actually get into showing you guys my current, you know, comprehension of Spanish on Dreaming Spanish, uh I do want to quickly just announce that I actually have a completely separate series that I have launched where I am improving my Mandarin Chinese from a B1 level up to an advanced level doing 50-hour updates using a different service called Linguee Pie. So, if you kind of curious to see how that one goes, make sure you follow that series as well. Let's get into watching some random content. So, I've set the difficulty to around this mid-range.
This is advanced.
Uh so, I'm just going to pick something random. Okay, what is this? I don't know what this is. Let's just Let's Okay, so he's talking about opening something.
But he's saying it's not specifically I didn't quite hear that bit.
I don't know what that word is, Nareja or whatever.
The The door itself?
And then like the the like the Uh what's What's that word meaning again? Cartel. It's like um maybe the sign or whatever.
So, you need to um like cut it.
So, she's saying she doesn't understand it's like you hear noises of like robbing it or something.
So, they're obviously playing some type Oh, well, that's literally the title.
Guess the use of this object. Okay, so I should have probably looked at the title before I clicked on this cuz I was really confused about what was going on here.
Y- Yes, it's that. Very good.
Okay, you need to give like complete context.
You need to like imagine it to know to imagine it.
I'm not from Venezuela.
I I can't I I can't [laughter] imagine that.
Uh this is >> [laughter and gasps] >> I'm guessing it means like from Brazil.
Okay, so she's saying that that the card or the the sign um is uh what what did she say? [laughter] To the front or the right?
Let me just hear that again.
Yeah, so it's a so it's to the to the right, I think.
Ah man.
No.
Okay, so the the name of this thing is "reja", whatever that is, okay. So if someone wants to um cut it, to open it, it it will make noise.
And he's saying no not to cut it.
I really need to know what that word is.
Okay.
So they go over it?
So no one can pass into the no one can go into the house.
>> [laughter] >> No one go into the house.
Okay, so I'm guessing that "reja" is this door, you know, the security door or whatever.
He's saying I got to say, you know, of all the objects I've had to prepare, this is the most difficult.
It's very difficult.
So she's saying this is one situation with um security uh Um to like break into the house?
Okay, I'll give you one hint.
Um something about I think this will be funny.
Okay, so there is an object.
Okay, so it needs to be um I know this word vista.
vista vista Uh I got to hear the context.
Okay, so you're saying that there's something that must be visible uh to other people and I don't know what that verb is.
Is she saying telephone?
Uh he's saying yeah, what telephone?
Uh she's saying like a a mobile phone or something?
Is he saying imagine a house?
And something Oh man, that's that the verb again. So because I don't know this one verb, I'm I don't know what he's trying to say right now. Um that bulla bullanadi or whatever it is. Okay, so you guys got an idea. This is probably just a tiny bit outside my range now. So what level of difficulty is this? This is like right here.
Now maybe I'll drop down to and we'll see how we go at this level.
Yeah, we'll just jump into this one about lacking motivation.
Uh for those who don't know also, I only spend about 50% of my time on Dreaming Spanish anymore. Um most of my time is actually spent on watching dubbed movies and um watching gaming videos and stuff like that nowadays.
Okay, so it will basically with any like thing that you need to do.
Uh, it won't devote demotivate you much.
Uh, you won't have many things to do.
Okay, so you need to look for a proposito, like maybe like I I don't know what that is. Like it sounds similar to an English word, but I don't even think I know that English word.
Okay, where you need to go, what you like Uh, I think yeah, just basically where you need to go, what what you Okay, so this is something that's obviously for me very useful.
So it's like and then like putting like objects in your in your mind.
Um, the things that I want and I'm not feeling so motivated.
And not having many I think ganas is like I've heard it so many times that word. But I don't know how to specifically translate it.
Yeah, I really don't.
Because I want to do like because I want to make one. Maybe it's like proposition or like proposal or something like that, but I don't think so.
Because I have like an objective.
Okay, so something that um I I want to uh look I That's like It's like to do, but it's not to do.
Cuz that's like I said or something, but like it's something like that.
So, when someone thinks about, you know, like a proposition or an objective Another thing that you need to remember is that you need to be realistic.
Okay, so there's like things that you need to um expect and things that you need to And there's that word again, lograr. So, again, I'm I'm How do I translate that? I've heard it so many times as well. So, these are literally in this like just in this viewing, there's two words where I've heard so many times.
I just don't know what they mean.
Okay, so you need to know So, realistic, but also optimistic. So, that That's the things you need to know.
You need to understand.
So, not like something as, you know, too easy, but also not something that's like um too difficult. Okay, so you guys now have a general idea of where I'm around.
I'm in like the advanced area, but I feel most comfortable just watching intermediate level content. Uh at the intermediate level, that's, you know, I understand everything. At the advanced level, I'm still missing like a lot of crucial words here and there. Although, I can kind of follow the flow of most conversations. But yeah, I'm pretty much Okay, so what am I going to be doing for the next 50 hours? You guys are kind kind of curious. I will be doing a lot more crosstalk. Uh a lot more crosstalk both with with uh Juega con Juanes and then with Martin from Martin Crack from Spanish boot gaming. And I guess just getting excited for that 1,000 hour mark. And I guess I have some final questions for all you guys, because when I hit 1,000 hours, I need to start reading. But, I have no idea how to start reading, specifically if I'm trying to focus on an Argentinian accent. Like, is there like beginner audiobooks in Argentinian Spanish? The one where they swap the the sh sounds in and out? Like, I don't even know how to say that in English, that that version.
Do you guys have any good recommendations for me? Basically, for when I hit 1,000 hours, what I should be trying to read, etc. Also, at 1,000 hours, I do plan to uh try out a couple of other services for shooters where practice speaking, but I won't mention names at this stage because I'm kind of in like a deal negotiating with them. So, anyway, that's what you guys have got to look forward to. I hope you guys have enjoyed the series so far. Uh we're about to hit the most exciting point in this entire thing. So, make sure you sub to the channel, become a member, and I'll see you all in the next video. And if you're not there, well, Elmo will find you and will make a series out of 50-hour updates of torture.
