There are only two authentic kinds of suffering in life: fundamental suffering (the struggle for survival, like hunger) and transcendental suffering (the longing for truth and self-knowledge). All other sufferings are self-created through competition, comparison, and societal expectations. A hungry man suffers authentically because he cannot eliminate his suffering through willpower—only food can. Similarly, a seeker longing for truth suffers authentically because only truth can resolve it. In contrast, self-created sufferings like competing with others, failing to meet expectations, or having less than neighbors can be eliminated by dropping them. The key insight is that while you cannot drop hunger or the longing for truth, you can drop the self-created sufferings that arise from competition and comparison.

Only Two Kinds of Suffering ExistsAdded:
Next question.
Master, I'm suffering a lot.
What to do?
How to come out of this suffering for once and all?
You're not suffering. You are swinging.
There are only two kinds of suffering in life.
Only two real suffering in life.
Rest all are self-made, self-constructed.
The first suffering is fundamental.
The second is transcendental.
The first suffering is of survival, the fundamental.
A hungry man suffers.
The second suffering is transcendental. A longing man suffers.
The only two kinds of men who suffers in life.
One longing for bread, another longing for truth.
Longing for survival and longing for transcendence.
Rest all the sufferings are One who is hungry, his suffering is not self-created. His suffering is authentic.
Now, he cannot even eliminate the suffering. Only food can. He cannot.
One who is longing for truth, he also cannot eliminate the suffering.
Only truth can.
If your suffering can be eliminated by you, it means it was created by you.
The only two sufferings, fundamental and transcendental.
Fundamental means you're struggling to survive.
You're trying so hard to make two ends meet.
You're striving for the bread and butter.
That is a suffering. That is a deep helplessness.
And another suffering is when you are a seeker.
When you want to know who you are.
This is also a deep helplessness.
Hunger was not brought by you.
Seeking also cannot be brought by you.
It happens.
You cannot trigger hunger.
You cannot trigger seeking.
Both are natural happening.
Rest all can be triggered and can be settled.
Master, I'm suffering a lot. What to do?
You are suffering the self-created suffering.
You are not suffering.
You are swinging.
You're not suffering because you don't have bread.
You're not suffering because you could not find who you are. You're suffering because you could not do what your friends did. You are suffering because you could not do what your father had expected out of you.
You're suffering because you have less than what your neighbors have.
This suffering is because of the competition you are in.
And this competition is made by you. A hungry man has no competition of eating.
A starving man is never competing in the food-eating competition.
He eats how much is enough, and that's all.
Those who have enough, they participate in food-eating competition.
And you know what they suffer?
That person had more than me.
They So, suffered this.
They had more burgers than me.
Now, the trophy will be his. Trophy will not come to my home.
You are suffering the trophy. Where is the fundamental suffering? Your suffering is not food. Your suffering is not that.
Your suffering is not fundamental.
It is a self-created thing.
You are in a competition where apart from one, everybody has to suffer.
Competition means what?
Only one enjoys.
That's what competition means.
>> [laughter] >> One wins, enjoys. Rest all have the guilt of failure.
You create a guilt in them of failing at it. So, they come next year more prepared to win. What?
To win a competition made by you.
This year, I will eat even more.
This is your plan.
This year, I will make little more.
All our sufferings are self-created.
The one they do authentic suffering that come from life.
A starving man is suffering. And the seeker is suffering.
A seeker longing for truth is suffering.
He has pain. You don't have pain.
You have frustration. You don't have pain.
A seeker has pain.
A seeker wandering to know the truth.
Trying to find somehow through some book, through some guru, through some technique, somehow.
At some place.
He's suffering.
An hungry man longing for bread and butter.
He's also wandering.
Somehow at some restaurants, some leftovers of yesterday night.
Maybe some dustbin, some bread may be there.
He's suffering.
Remember, there only two kinds of suffering in life.
From [snorts] life.
One is for survival, another is for transcendence.
Rest all are not from life.
They are from you. They are from your society. They are from your world around you.
If you simply drop them all For a while, you won't feel any pain.
But you cannot drop hunger.
If you will have to eat.
Otherwise, it will take you with it.
You can't drop longing for truth.
You have to find.
You can't put it aside even for a while.
Either you have to find it or it will take you with itself.
Rest all you can keep aside.
Only a starving man suffers.
And a seeking man suffers.
Rest all have just created.
