The Dogon mystery is a classic example of how cultural contamination can retrofit modern scientific discoveries into oral traditions to create myths of ancient wisdom. It serves as a reminder that extraordinary claims about indigenous knowledge often reveal more about Western projections than historical reality.

The Dogon and SiriusAdded:
In the 1930s, two French anthropologists visited the Dogon people of Mali. What they found in this isolated West African tribe stopped the scientific world cold.
Astronomical knowledge that humanity had no business knowing. The Dogon told anthropologists Marcel Griaule and Germaine Dieterlen that the star Sirius had a companion, a small, incredibly dense star that orbited it every 50 years.
They called it the star of the deep beginning. They said it was the heaviest thing in the universe. They had known this for centuries. The problem is that Sirius B, the white dwarf companion to Sirius, is invisible to the naked eye.
Western astronomers only confirmed its existence with telescopes in 1862.
Its extraordinary density was not understood until the 1920s.
The Dogon described both accurately centuries before either discovery.
Skeptics argue the Dogon may have learned this from European missionaries or travelers before Griaule arrived.
Supporters point out the knowledge was woven into ancient ritual and cosmology, not the kind of thing adopted recently from outsiders.
The debate has never been fully resolved, and the Dogon have never changed their story. The Sumerians, the Vedics, the Nazca, all recorded something they could not explain. In West Africa, a tribe recorded something that modern astronomy took until 1970 to confirm. Part five drops tomorrow.
