The BEST CARD SHOP In The COLLECTING WORLD?! - BURBANK SPORTSCARDSAdded:
Oh, hey there.
You want to get into it?
This is special.
What's my favorite part of the shop?
>> King of the cards.
>> We got a treat for you guys today. We are at one of the best card shops in the entire country, Burbank Sports Cards. It is a legendary in the space. Their inventory is unlike anything you've ever seen. It gets better and better. They moved into a new location. A couple years back, I was at the old one. We don't get to get out west as much as we'd like. This is special. Got murals on both sides. I've seen videos of the inside, but nothing like seeing the real thing. We're going to take you guys with us for a heck of a card shop tour. So, make sure to lock in and be ready for a heck of a hobby experience. There you are.
>> See everything good?
>> Yeah, dude. This place is buzzing.
>> It would be busier if we were buying.
We've shut down buying so they can all process everything. The spend in this place is just wild. So my whole buying team is in there getting everything priced up. So we're good to go.
>> You're busy.
>> We're busy. Yeah. Um my whole world is busy. But yeah, I'm happy to show you around here.
>> I'd love to if you got a few minutes. I mean, we just started as soon as we walked in. We just hit the first wax wall and we're looking at singles. And >> man, it must take a couple days to get through all this. I'm glad we left ourselves a few hours.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I know. I'm happy to show you around. And uh >> you know those guys?
>> I've dealt with both of them.
>> I've never seen that guy in my life.
>> Tricky tricky guy.
>> His sister or his mother either.
>> All of a sudden, I noticed there was a shine coming off that table. It must be Diamond Dave over there.
>> There's some serious heat over there.
Like ridiculous heat.
>> I know.
>> But no, we've been dealing with him forever, it seems like. But this is the type of place that is truly hobby.
>> We don't do breaks. We don't do repacks.
We don't look to expand stores.
>> A lot of the other things that other people think, you know, are are good for business. We >> trying to build the ultimate destination.
>> Yeah.
>> And uh >> feels like it.
>> Got the best team in the business. And uh we have a lot of fun in this place.
Man, >> I got to tell you that stands out to me though. One of the only spots that doesn't set up brakes within shop. You have a huge operation. You have as much wax as anyone's ever seen, but no brakes.
>> We don't do brakes. Never done brakes.
Won't do brakes.
>> Wow.
>> Yeah. I don't I don't believe it's in the best interest of the customer.
>> Wow.
>> Okay.
>> You know, we have our reasons for it. Um it just adds too much money per card and and the customer does isn't opening the packs a and they're paying 40% more per card to get into the RIP.
>> I respect it. There's no question. You know, you got to be ripping to enjoy it and within your own means, but it's not necessarily always the best value. So, you guys take pride in the singles and if people want their boxes, they can come buy them. But >> everybody can make their own decisions.
But, you know, at the end of the day, >> if 80 if 100 people walked in my store and 80% of them had a negative interaction because they didn't get the cards they wanted or didn't get the value they expected, >> might not be coming back.
>> I'd be out of business.
>> Yeah. But that is kind of the standard norm in the industry. And same goes for repacks. I'm like, we aim for 100% satisfaction. So, it's just a different way. It's just a mindset that I have and my ownership has and all of that.
>> Hey, as a collector, I respect it and I I understand it. You don't got to explain it any further. That's awesome.
>> One of the things you'll notice, Kyle, as you look throughout the store is the signage.
um such a big space and so much inventory, you kind of need a road map cuz it's overwhelming, especially to that first time customer. So, everywhere you look, you're going to see some really clean signage that we've taken a lot of care in producing >> so that you know what you're looking at because it's overwhelming. We also you'll see all the digital signage that we have throughout the store. We were the first that I'm aware of in the industry to institute them. You can literally change all the prices from your computer in your office both to the wall, the register, and to the website.
And it's been a huge game changer because things are constantly going like this. And the work involved to manually do everything is a nightmare >> in the best way possible. It's a sports card library. And I mean that in the sense of no, it's certainly not quiet in here, but it's so organized and detailed and you can find anything you're looking for and you know where to look for it.
So that's something I picked up on right away. And we we go to a lot of shops and they all have different things that they offer better than the other ones, but >> anything you were looking for seems to be here. We walked in, we've been in a few shops looking for certain product.
I'm a big hockey fan. We're looking right at the hockey wall. Sometimes you don't even see a hockey box in some US stores.
>> This is crazy.
>> You can see just by the hockey selection that our selection across the board is uh pretty on point. And uh and so what we'll also have for each section is we'll have a premium showcase as well that'll show off maybe some of the earlier boxes, more expensive stuff.
We're always getting stuff. We buy so much over the counter. So you never know what's going to walk in.
>> Imagine calling us your local card shop.
This is just nuts. It really is.
>> Yeah, we um Yeah, we do the work.
>> I was at the old shop.
>> Yeah, >> I haven't been to uh the >> This is our fifth location, believe it or not. Everyone thinks, >> sorry, I was at the last one. I was at the last one.
>> And there was one before that and then we had two before that going all the way back to when I bought it in '89.
>> Even I mean boxes you're just not going to see all the time and then everything you can imagine a modern day.
>> Yeah, we try to have a lot of the different variants too. Not everybody can include can buy hobby or first off the line. And so we're really adamant about having a great selection of retail product as well.
>> 2012 finest. Like that's just not a box you're going to see for football.
>> Yeah. Yeah, we try to go deep into WWE, UFC, things of that nature. Um, if you have it, you can't sell if you don't have it. And the worst thing you can tell the customer is, "I don't have it.
I'm out of stock." Um, so we try to at least have a few in stock of everything.
And um, and then you kind of veer over into the gaming.
>> Well, yeah. I'm I'm a sports guy, but I know that this has just become next level. And, you know, the community is so strong there that this got to be hopping every day.
>> Yeah. We try to carry as much of it as possible. Try to be as reasonable as possible. People think that just because it's SRP that that's what you always need to sell it for, but they don't always realize that we're paying over SRP to bring it back in stock and quote unquote scalp. And I'm like, our margins are Pokemon or very >> No, it's understandable. The market's too hot to even get it and keep it on shelves.
>> Sure. But when the stuff comes out, we are at that price and we get a line around the building that day. So, >> got to price accordingly.
>> Exactly. you know, >> understandable.
>> When you walk around also, you're going to see some really cool design, different murals and different types of things.
>> Yeah, the aesthetic in the shop, too. I just there's there's a lot of color and action everywhere you look. So, it's really cool.
>> It's an old writing. So, um it's so funny. We were looking for a new building and I didn't plan on going into anything this size and um my real estate agent's like, "Well, there's a right aid." And I just told him, you know, put the pike down. There's we're not moving into a right. And he goes, "No, no, no.
You should really look. The location is as good as it's going to get.
>> Yeah. Ever knocked down like a set of top loaders and all of a sudden there was some old Advil under.
>> Yeah, exactly. You'll see the gaming section over here. This is where your One Piece will be. And then some more of your Star Wars, Disney, um Yu-Gi-Oh, things of that nature. Y >> um and we have that the showcases will surround it with singles just like the Pokémon. Um the verticals is probably the most the thing that probably stands out the most in the store. It'll tell you what you're looking at and it's alphabetical by character name. We sell so much stuff online through our web presence that it needs to be easy for my customers to find things, but it really needs to be easy for my employees to find things. So, if they're looking for a certain character and it's a certain price range, they're going right where it's supposed to be.
>> That's what I noticed when we walked in.
As soon as you look up, you can find whatever you were going to ask somebody for.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And uh and that's critical.
And so you'll see we have 44 total vertical cases which is 88 sides >> and all these cards are online on burbankcards.com and we add 5 or 6 hundred cards to that site a day. Those are the types of cards that go into the vertical cases.
>> Well, I I have been informed that not only are they available there now, but you guys are expanding that operation to partner with Fanatics, >> right? Um we left eBay probably a year and a half ago. Um, I used to do business with Michael Rubin or at least his company before he had Fanatics. It was called GSI, Global Sports Interactive. We were the trading card arm there. And so when the opportunity came to go to Fanatics and anchor um, Fanatics Collect, but not only that, to get onto MLB.com, NFL.com, the places I was before.
>> You'll start seeing our inventory pop up. We're going to have over two million different cards across their entire platform.
>> So, not only do you have one of the biggest selections in the world, now you have a few places to go and experience it, which is amazing.
>> Right. So, we've got a number of our own sites. Then we go over Fanatics Collect, which has been exciting.
>> And is it all up there already on Fanatics Collect?
>> Fanatics Collect has 2.3 million different cards of ours, about 40 million cards total.
>> And um we're going to be taking all that inventory over to the league sites as well and any affiliate site of Fanatics.
Amazing.
>> So that's really big doing.
>> So if you guys are at home, you don't have to take a flight out this way.
They're available and you can go get them from the seat of your couch.
>> Yeah. Anything you see in the vertical cases is on burbankcards.com. And that's how we do a tremendous amount of our business. So um but yeah, let's continue.
>> Yeah.
>> So this right here is our free raffle showcase. So on Saturdays between 1 and 5:00 at the top of the hour, everybody that walks in gets a free ticket. And basically we give away anywhere from 10 to 20 things an hour.
>> So all this stuff gets given away.
>> Yeah. So we'll give away 60 70 80 90 cards on a Saturday. So if you win, you simply come up here. I want that Michael Jordan upper deck.
>> And the kids lose their minds. We can get up to 230 people in here at the same time. And we do it basically five times.
>> This isn't a a 25 cent bin either, guys.
There's some slabs in here. Some pretty cool stuff. We're going to be adding product. I haven't touched it um since last Saturday. Been busy with the show coming up, but I'll have it fully stocked for Saturday. And it's a way of giving back and it's a hell of a lot of fun.
>> Love it.
>> There's a lot of options on Saturdays for shopping for cards. We want to give everyone as big a reason as possible to come here.
>> Yeah, I love that.
>> I have not seen something quite like that yet.
>> Yeah, it's to me it's everything and I have so much fun doing it. It's it's a blast. So you come in, you're basically walking on the collector's court here.
Wow.
>> And this was kind of temporary how we set it up. We wanted to get the court in while we were building it out. Um so these were basically like low-end 25 cent cards that we had that we had by year. Um that's kind of going away. It was kind of a starting point for it.
>> All players sports by year. Sports by year.
>> Yeah. But this is going away and I'll show you what's going in cuz it's 100 times better. This right here is 250 different names at a flat buck a piece.
So you walk in and I'm looking for jeters. Where else? Every single card is a Jeter in there. Every card's a buck.
Basically, it's like going on eBay, running a search, having all the results, but it's half the price and it's right there in front of you. I don't always call it the hobby. What's going on? I don't really consider breaking the hobby. I don't really consider repacks the hobby. I consider that a whole different thing. Okay, >> this is what the hobby looks like.
>> I agree.
>> You know, and I think there's a mistake in identity.
>> I will say this, I you'll notice and with what we do, I don't know how much of it you've gotten to see, but you know, no breaking channel for years. Of course, there's an opportunity to make money there.
>> Um the repack stuff, I think it's a good alternative sometimes to wax if done correctly. Unfortunately, it's not more often than not. So that's the hesitation you're preaching to acquire there, but I think it's a responsibility to kind of keep an eye on that and and do it the right way. And this is the right way.
>> I think the problem with a lot of the modern shops is you just can't put your hands on cards. They're big. They're beautiful. But I want to sit down and go through cards.
>> Yeah.
>> And I want some level of organization.
And it really doesn't exist. And I think that as we go forward, I think a lot of shops are going to start seeing people might not be jumping into these boxes at these prices or getting into the brakes at these prices. They still want to interact with the hobby, >> of course, >> you know, and they just might need to change their habits.
>> How are you, sir?
>> What's up?
>> Good to see you, my friend.
>> Great to see you guys. Welcome.
>> Welcome to the uh 11th province or what what province are we?
>> What's happening?
>> Good to see you.
>> The Diamond Man.
You know, people still talk about with both of you guys. Two guys you guys see me deal with pretty often if you're uh not new here. So, >> the 1010 sold for 1.6 million.
>> This is a weapon coming over the border.
>> It definitely is.
>> Wow. Look at this one.
>> How much is this?
>> There's a half a million dollar offer on that right now.
>> It's not enough.
>> Yeah. Ryan would have offered 525.
Yeah.
>> What are we looking at market like estimated market value >> for that >> for these three?
>> Close to 2 million probably.
>> Close. Close.
>> Jess will get you at the door.
>> It's really cool holding pieces of cardboard worth more than my name and likeness. That's fine.
>> Yeah. Staggering, huh?
>> One of these days you're going to see me with Diamond Dave buying stuff like this.
>> That one's five away from a 95. So, that's a very close.
>> The auto is beautiful. I like I like this just with the uh homage to the year.
>> Yeah, the aesthetic is just amazing.
>> Yeah, >> this right here on a different day would look entirely different, but this is where you sign up to sell us cards. Now, it's closed cuz we're just processing today. You put your name, phone number, and email into this.
>> It'll tell you how many people are in front of you and an approximate wait time. Then it'll go up onto the weight list up there.
>> Wow.
>> And we can get as many as 28 people deep here.
>> This is like the sports car DMV but quicker.
>> Yeah. But quicker. So we'll have three professional buyers here plus my son Ryan in the back who does some of the really big deals. And um but yeah, you'll get a text message when it's your turn. So you shop, no one's waiting in a stupid line. You're shopping. We give you cash prices. We give you 10% for more store credit. vast majority of people take store credit to be able to buy some of these hobby boxes or get into bigger cards. So, >> at the show, yeah, liquidity, we we coin we we are the biggest liquidity source in the industry and we're not just cherrypicking certain singles. Oh, we just only want this and no, we try to take everything.
>> Wow.
>> So, it's um it's it's a great service to our customers and that's how we keep fresh in this place. We don't travel to shows. it all kind of comes to us. So, it's this is been a real timesaver. And you put in that you only have two or three cards, you'll get pushed closer up to the top of the list cuz we can get through those people quicker. So, you're not waiting an hour and a half to show cards. If you only have Pokemon, they're going to a certain person. So, it all goes in here. So, it really streamlines the process.
>> The organizational systems in this place are unheard of.
>> Yeah. We We're trying to invent things.
I I kind of joke, we're not trying to change the game. We're trying to create a new one.
>> Yeah.
>> And that's what we're really focused on uh in this place is just elevating the consumer experience where it's not just transactional. It's truly an experience that's different.
>> I'm being nostalgic here. I'm going down memory lane. I remember when I was a kid, I used to go to the shops and I just thought the sets were a cool thing.
And yeah, I I wasn't wrong, but you know, now I buy singles and understand the differences. But I was a younger kid, so I'd go to the local sporting goods shop and get the year set. And I'd sit down, I'd organize. I didn't care about the checklist. Just wanted the good players that I liked and the good rookies and the the not so good players.
Um, I remember opening this box and I remember how excited I was. I got a >> I was just a football fan, Reggie Bush jersey and a Vince Young uh jersey for the holidays during that class. So, brings back memories. Doesn't all need to be super expensive to do that. It's no different today from that first person that walks into our store. This might be something that they gravitate to. Um, you know, going over to the Mookie Bets box, that might be something they gravitate to. And that's important that they get in on the ground floor of the hobby. We don't just elevate them to whatnot right away or breaks or refacks right away cuz that's kind of how we burn through customers. They need some kind of education, some kind of foundation of collecting and and that's critical. And there's a lot of people that do things the right way in the hobby. M I just worry when people's first interaction is with something that the odds are you're not going to walk out of it.
>> Leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
>> Yeah.
>> Doesn't get you excited or encouraged.
It's not going to have a smile on your face.
>> But do you remember what that felt like to you back then? It happens every single day in this place as well. Today, 20 years later, you know, follow me.
>> This is interesting.
>> That's cool to see.
>> This is going to be the mindb blow. So, we have three stations set up here with these kiosks. Now, you come in, you're a bit overwhelmed, and you're only looking for a certain athlete. Let's just say you're looking for Barry Bonds. Now, we can show you the Bonds box over there, but that's just the tip of our iceberg of Barry Bonds. So, you'll come here, you click on premium cards. This will be everything premium that we have, whether it's in the verticals. We have a library in the back above and beyond the verticals because we just have so much stuff. So, you'll type in Barry Bonds.
And >> it's going to bring up all of our premium Barry Bonds cards.
>> So boom, >> you'll find >> it's like an instore >> everything from a Tiffany traded PSA 10, you know, to an 86 fleer update Barry Bonds. These will basically be $10 and more.
>> And you could go through, you could take this information and ask somebody to see the card. You can actually put it in the shopping cart. It'll print out a receipt. Can I check out here? And then the cards are retrieved.
>> Yeah, we pull the cards while you shop.
>> Wow.
>> One of the other big attributes here, which was something I never dreamed I'd be able to pull off, was uh we have a f's first retail PSA store. Um staffed by PSA personnel. Um there's usually two people working there. It's open every hour that we're open. Um and so it matches our hours entirely. Wow. Um, I'm told that running it through us is the fastest way to get stuff into the system. Um, much faster than sending it off yourself. You're ripping product, you're hitting the big card, you're walking over to PSA, which is ridiculous.
>> Um, and they funnel a lot of traffic to us. They'd rather them come here than even go down to them.
>> Yeah. Convenient.
>> And um, so yeah, that was a conversation a year and a half ago. Most conversations, and you know this, go nowhere. You have a great idea, you're talking to corporate, >> but here it is.
>> Never goes, >> look at that.
>> So, um, that was open day one in here and it's just been absolutely tremendous. Follow me. This is vintage.
Vintage looks great in verticals. I think the cards pop a lot there.
>> Sure does. A lot of color, >> but it also is by year. So, you know, you're looking at 59 to 61 stars. These will just be the bigger names, the Bob Gibsons, Kofaxes, things of that nature.
And um it's just tremendous. You walk it around >> and you'll just get newer by year. It goes up tonight and um folks love this especially, you know, when we're adding new stuff and of course we use Instagram a lot to show people what's new in the store. So this has been great and this is just a part of our vintage. I'll show you how the rest of it works in a minute. But if you turn around here, this is ridiculous.
So, this right here, and we're loading this actually as we speak right now. I got guys working on this. This is graded football. And the great thing is, again, it's alphabetical by last name. So, if I'm looking for Jim Thorp, we just got an order for Jim Thorp, we know to go to this showcase. If it's 400 bucks, we know it's up higher in the case. Boom, there's the card. And um people walk around, they see a card, and then they forget where it is in a shop. That happens a lot. Or at a show. Now you're like, "Oh yeah, that Jim Thorp is great and it's going to be right there."
>> I'm a huge Jets guy, so I hate to say it, but that is a nasty Mike Varel. As nasty of a Mike Verable card's going to be.
>> I think that's 2 days old. Yeah, that blew my mind. I'm a Patriots guy.
>> You have all years, all players, different products, all price ranges, even just in one particular showcase.
And sometimes, you know, I find the most disappointment with this is for our shop owners everywhere cuz we're all just trying to make this thing better. And I I would hope this gives all shops around the country and the world some ideas, but you go in and there aren't that many singles. And I feel like I want to go in and see something that I couldn't just immediately go online to a retail site and purchase. And this is just refreshing as can be cuz I'm seeing cards that I haven't seen in forever.
And I go to shows all around the country every other week. It's definitely special.
>> We can have probably 30 people here on a Saturday and you can see that there's people here right now. This right here is my premium single section. To me, it's priority one, two, and three of the store right now. These are cards from a dollar to $8. Jerseys, autos, premium rookies, things of that nature. And we add probably four double shoes a day of cards to these boxes. The pro >> guys, a double shoe is a ton of cards.
How many cards are in a double shoe roughly? two way to a probably one probably >> 500 cards, something like that.
>> And that's on a daily basis.
>> Yeah, we have people that do nothing but be able to price it and stack it up.
People that take the stuff home and soft sleeve and top load and price. Um, we got teams for everything. We try to streamline. But these boxes back here, come on back.
So, what you're going to see is we have flat dollar boxes >> that are flat buck just like you'll see at the shows >> where you're going to be seeing, you know, different kinds of rookies, inserts, colored rookies, things of that nature. And we'll have a ton of dollar boxes, but where people really enjoy themselves are these two to eight dollar boxes.
>> I want to enjoy myself. Let's do it.
where you're looking at con rookies for two bucks. Trey prism rookies, jaw rookies, autos.
>> Can I grab a random stack?
>> You can do whatever you want.
>> Here we go. Let's see.
>> Yeah. So, this I mean this is good names you're talking. I'll just show like just for some perspective. Like, so you got a an Ant-Man rookie, but it's next to Jerry Stack House. That's a stack of ant. Auto pops up for five bucks.
>> I would have never thought this.
>> There you go. Kev Tyler Hero. Might have to come back for that one.
>> What are you picking up here?
>> Uh I'm picking up a lot of uh early 2000s. Uh so I'm collecting this set. I don't know cuz it's like the first card I ever got. So this uh 2002 2003 jersey edition >> of Joe Smith.
>> Oh, no. Just of each of them set. Yeah.
>> And that's why you wanted them is because you remembered collecting them.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> It's so cool. Can I show them off? Do you mind?
>> Yeah. Yeah. This is >> Yeah, it sure is.
>> And then a lot of this stuff is just like when I was like, you know, >> you didn't come in here looking specifically for these.
>> I kind of cuz I'm like I know they have them. So like the autos, so I did a little bit.
>> And guys, I can't figure in most places you're going to be able to track these down. You might be asking quite a bit, but >> and like and just like general early 2000s stuff just like you know, >> it's the Drewzy edition. And like this guy had a documentary about heroin.
>> It's not big names either.
>> If they're not the big names, you're looking for a set. It's not going to make the showcase. So where are you going to find them?
>> I'm f and I'm friends with Matise Thybel cuz we knew each other from Philly. So it's just cool to find this.
>> Hey, how's it going? Great to meet you.
>> Thanks for coming out. Events. She runs social. Um she'll own this place one of these days.
>> So yeah, you'll work for Ryan. Yeah. And kind of own it, too.
>> But um so both my kids are fully involved.
>> Family business.
>> Yeah. Through my mom. This is her office, too.
>> My dad still runs around here. Had his hands on almost this whole remodel. And her fiance is doing data analytics, all of our web stuff, >> making an app for us.
>> Full family business, not just a couple members >> and then some.
>> Yeah.
>> What's it like just being in this position in a shop like this?
>> It's fascinating.
>> That's a word. and very not relatable to anyone I know at all.
>> But no, it's it's such an insane shift from our last place, but that's that's where we're trending on the up. So, it's been good.
>> Yeah. You know, women, we have I think seven women now that work here. Just hired one. Well, she brought off she dropped off her resume yesterday. So, we're hiring her as well. Um, we try to be really diverse and uh the staffing that we have here and uh it's just been great >> seeing more and more women in the hobby which is really cool.
>> You'll walk around especially on a weekend and you'll see 354% of the people in the store are women ethnicity, gender, age, it's just exploded. It's for everyone.
>> You want everybody here. It's a community and that's how it should be.
And it's just I think the industry as a whole, everybody in it has done a tremendous job of of growing it, not just in popularity, but the makeup of the folks that you see and and that's exciting, you know, especially the families and that all walk through here.
So, it's great that I get to share this with my girl.
>> Indeed, it's the best.
>> What's up, brother?
>> This is Darren.
>> How's it going?
>> How's it going? Nice to meet you.
>> Good to meet you.
>> Darren goes by DZ. The vast majority of everything we buy comes through him. And he's the one that breaks it all down, gets things where it can be manageable basically. Yeah. And everything that you saw on that wall for premium singles, that's him. And >> so he's like the man behind the wall.
Literally, we were behind the wall and he's like the Wizard of Oz essentially.
>> He knows pricing like he's AI basically.
and he can literally stack everything from a dollar to $8 here and then it gets sent off to people at home that do the soft sleeving, the top loading, the pricing cuz they know every card's a buck >> and he should not be doing that. He needs to be doing things that no one else here can do anywhere nearly as quick as he can. So everything that's basically not high-end premium raw that comes through or graded all goes through him.
>> Very, very cool.
>> He's tremendous at it. And >> do you enjoy it?
>> Oh, of course. Yeah, of course. I definitely >> Are you a big collector yourself?
>> Yeah. I used to shop when I was like a little kid, you know, sixth, seventh grade, whatever. I go to Rob. So, I've been doing this forever.
>> Love that.
>> I trust him like a son. He's just the best. I challenge anybody to be able to process cards like this.
>> Crazy.
>> The funny thing again cuz it was a ride aid was everything back here was the old refrigeration units. Just think about you're in a Ryid and where you're at right now. So that had to all be torn out and >> going back here for my 99 cent can of Arizona.
>> Yeah, basic. Yeah, that's where it was.
That's funny. And so we have probably 40% of our online singles back here. Um we were hoping everything would fit, but we realized really quick it wasn't all going to fit. So basically we have I think 2002 to present singles are in the building and then down.
>> So that's only 2002 to >> to present. Yeah. Everything before that is at another building down the street.
And um we have folks constantly couriering back and forth. And you've seen this before. Everything's colorcoded by sport. It's in year brand number order.
So let's just say we're looking at 2004 baseball cuz baseball's green. Then it'll be alphabetical. Hot prospects draft leaf certified cuts leaf whatever.
God, we have a lot of leaf fat. Limited second edition whatever. All the base cards are in number order. All the inserts in parallel are in number order, alphabetical by set. Everything back here is databased. Everything you see here is on Fanatics Collect.
>> So everything you see in color-coded signs, >> all these cards, >> all these cards, 35 million total, 2.3 or 2.4 million different. And we're constantly working on the latest products as well. So I'll show you.
>> We could have just left that actually.
>> It's all right.
>> But whatever works.
>> Follow me. So, it all kind of has a system to it. But if we walk down here, what >> you'll see how it all goes um chronologically by year. So, you're in 2018, 2019. So, if I'm looking for like the latest 2025 stuff, >> we'd walk all the way down here.
>> I feel like the uh episodes are You see a video of a guy getting trapped in a cave.
So this is like 2024 then 2025 like this is all Bowman chrome 2025 baseball where you'll have the base you'll have the refractors things of that nature. So we're constantly loading these types of products >> and they're buying it over the counter comes in in bulk a lot of times processing teams getting their hands on it scanning it databasing it inner sorting it and we're constantly pushing it to fanatics collect. We can't always get to like 2018 baseball cuz we're always seemingly on 25, 24, and 23 cuz that's the vast majority of what comes in. So, these are kind of our breakdown sections here.
>> So, it's like all of this is 2021 baseball >> premium stuff like the good stuff that would go on our website. Um, it's all back here by brand and it's like the hope is one day we'll get to it. But now we've kind of shifted towards we'll be going through a lot of this stuff and it's going to um go into the showroom priced two three $4, etc. because it's almost impossible for my team to get back this far when we're constantly getting bombarded with the latest products that have the most.
>> But you're able to refill those showcases, those boxes, and you have a backlog stock back here and it's the system. It goes out and it refills and it goes out.
>> Yeah. It's just years of fine-tuning things, seeing what works, failing quickly with what doesn't work.
>> Um, >> but it compounds over time that you have a significantly strong inventory that's all the way back into the back room and ready to go out there.
>> Yeah. And that's what DZ will go through a lot of this stuff. And it's kind of amazing what sits back here, honestly.
Yeah.
>> But this is just years of buying and having systems and all of that. What's up, man? I got Jack back here. He >> Jack, what did you do to get stuff in the back corner?
That was good. I enjoy it.
>> What do you do back here?
>> Uh, so I process like the incoming purchase order shipments that we get.
Um, and then allocate it kind of to the different parts of the shop, whether it be restocked up on the wall or just in our backstock ready to go. Um, and then sometimes adjusting prices as it kind of comes in depending on the market, how it's changing and things like that.
>> So you just have a bunch of like sharp experts sprinkled throughout the shop and they're all sitting back here making it up. got 3540 people working here and I basically delegate. I mean back in my day I used to be on top of like everything and now you know I've got Ryan who runs operations and he's got this team underneath him that's tremendous.
>> I can't imagine trying to hire at this kind of level cuz for me it was easy.
Like Kevin knows how to press the on button right there and he he knows what he's doing with that thing.
>> Other than that I don't know how to find anybody to do this.
>> Give the give the videographer.
Definitely.
>> I I always I always give him a hard time. Guy makes me look way better than I am at any of this. So >> So these are one of the big deals.
Ryan's my son. He runs operations. We're partners.
>> And um this is what he does just all day long back here is he'll get some >> I've seen this man grind before. We've gotten some deals done.
>> Yeah. So he's he's kind of behind the scenes. He's not the one that wants to be in front of the camera, but he's the brains of the operation.
>> We'll let him get back to work. He's got a tough job ahead of him. I could see with who he's dealing with. So, >> people line up to see him, especially since the word got out that we're not buying today.
>> Just so you know, I lined up I lined up to see you. He just snuck me in here.
But I would have gotten in line, too.
>> Yeah, I'll put in the front of the line.
Just piss everybody off.
>> Take it easy, fellas.
>> So, that's basically that. So, I think we've covered the vast majority of what happens here. And I wish that we were buying today so you could get the full experience of what's happening here.
>> It is next level. And I do have to mention to you too, I don't know if you've seen anything we've done, but hobbyist is my brand.
>> So I actually I acquired the trademark u for the name and so we've started building that stuff out and it's just getting into shops. So I'm definitely going to talk to you about something there cuz I'd love if we could find a way to get that included here.
>> Now what is that exactly? So I'm trying to build essentially a merchandise apparel brand for the space. We don't have a way to rock what we wear right now. You have a top shirt on, >> right? Usually it's Burbank cards, but Yeah.
>> Exactly. So you have your shops and everybody has the shop merch. It's clean, but it's it's about the word and the meaning behind it. And then we're going to have initiatives behind it that when we get to a certain point, enough shops, enough revenue coming in that we give back to the space and find ways to do that. So, we're trying to get in as many shops as possible and kind of create a way to rep it the same way you put on Nike if you're going for a run.
Right. Right.
>> Put on hobbyist. You're going to a show.
You're going to the shop. You want to let people know what you do.
>> It's absolutely brilliant. It's the perfect word. Obviously, with someone like yourself, it's getting represented in the best way possible. And when you look around the shop, you think hobby, you know, it's uh so yeah, no, we can you'll talk to Daniel. We'll see if opportunities in there. That's more of his domain than mine. Yeah, >> no, I'd be honored to have it in the overwhelming mix that is Burbank Sports Cards. So, we'll figure that out for sure. Well, look, I got to thank you more than anything for the the time and the opportunity to come in here and check all this out. Burbank Sports Cards, you won shop of the year as well.
Like, >> one hobby shop of the year.
>> There's no question as to why when you see all of this. So, I'm overwhelmed. A lot to think about, learned a lot, saw a lot. So, thank you for the time. And then we're going to show off the show that is West Coast Car Show as well.
>> Ain't going to lie, I've been looking forward to you coming in the store. I I watch your stuff. So, >> my man, thanks for what you do for the hobby, the collector. Seriously appreciated by myself and then I'm sure everybody who's watching at home and the people that get to experience it. So, >> well, if it wasn't for the people that collect cards, we wouldn't be here. So, that's facts.
>> Keeping us in business. So, guys, make sure to check out what's before this and after this. And as always, Big Kev, appreciate you, dog.
in case we need it.
>> There it is. I was hoping he would do that. I didn't tell him to do it.
>> So, we went had to at least grab something for the personal collection and then have a bit of fun while we're here. So, doesn't have to be expensive.
Huge Jets fan. First Jets game ever.
Leverius Kohl's was a scorer in that game. Jets won the game. You know, that doesn't happen often. So, attachment there. It's numbered to 25.
Never see his stuff and you're not going to see it in a showcase. So, that was cool to find and I'm a huge Islander fan. So, we're going to go hunting my guy Mattie Schaefer. Number one overall pick eventually. Going to try. There we go.
Here we go. I've ripped this before right when it came out and it was on the set of NHL on ESPN at the Stadium Series. If you haven't seen that video, go check it out cuz it's kind of cool when I do this, but with a former NHL great.
All right, let's go.
Color flow. So now I know the product pretty well. So these are really nice, the color flows. McKinnon, we hit our auto. Mike Mat, it's not Matthew Schaefer. Kent Johnson.
Oh, let's go. Let's go. I think it's the same card that I pulled on set with uh PK. Same color flow and everything. I'll take them. All right, Matty Sha, if you're watching, going to sign this up for me real nice.
We're going to get that value up. Bang.
Let's go.
Look, I I spent 100 something bucks on the box. That's probably a $30 to $40 card. Doesn't matter. I'm happy. That's what I came here for.
trash. The next inserts.
It's such a aesthetic product. So much color going on.
Nice sh's a nice hit. Backto back Zeve colors, different colors. Another good rookie in the class. These are cool. I think I saw this as well. The flashy insert. Backto back Capri flashies. Oh, let's go.
Barsy.
Show me some more shave.
Oh, let's go. Let's go. What's a number two? Is it? Or that might just be an orange. But still, we'll take it. Orange slice. How about a slice of happiness headed? We got to meet him. Oh, this is just an Islander pack. Bo Horvette.
>> Go Isles trash.
>> Hey, when they throw those cardboard garbage inserts in there. Ooh, hitting the groove to meet me off. It's nice.
He's been playing real well. Cutter numbered to 199. So, there are numbered parallels in here. I was hoping that Schaffefer was numbered, but >> hitting two orange Schaffers is dope.
Last pack.
Jack Hughes. Got to send this to PK. If you guys watch that, that's his his guy.
All right. I mean, satisfied customer.
Happy Islander fan. Rip responsibly.
Love it. Matty Sha going to get these signed up whenever I see them. Hopefully by that time I just have a stack of them and be like, "Buddy, get to work. It's all going in the collection.
