The present moment is the most immediate reality that cannot be left or achieved, yet people avoid it because staying present reveals the void behind the self and challenges the mind's identity-based programming; the practice is not to try to be present but to recognize that you are already the moment and question the assumption that you are not.

Why the Present Moment Feels DangerousAdded:
Um, regarding the moment, it is like not a lot of our other discussions were talking about concepts and stories, but the moment is the most physical, immediate thing that's happening right now.
>> Yeah, that's why Eckhart's book was so popular and so universally received because it wasn't full of concepts. It was just him pointing out the obvious fact that that everybody is in the present and that can never leave us.
You know, that's the beautiful thing about truth is you can't really argue with it.
Mhm. If it's cleanly said or cleanly pointed to.
>> But people might say it's just a little too obvious.
>> Yeah, well, that's normal, you know, the human mind wants things to be complex.
Uh, only because it presents a challenge and opportunity to become more if you figure it out. Still comes from that good old-fashioned unworthiness.
Mhm.
In your books and you're like you're working with students, for lack of better words, does that you know, like being in the moment, is that like a big part of your >> Yeah, it's part of my instruction.
Everything I say whenever I'm in conversation, it's always ultimately leading people back to that fact.
Uh a lot of it is working through the layers of trauma that you kind of have to move through usually before you can just rest at the heart at the center of silence and the moment. That's that's why most don't want to be in the moment because if you stay there long enough, you're going to have to face all of the reasons why you you've been running the hell away from it, you Usually, you know, like my attention, it's going to go towards something in the past or something in the future, something I have to get done.
>> Yeah, yeah, and it's not because those things are more important, it's because if you stay in the moment long enough, danger happens.
Hang on. What kind of danger?
Well, yeah, you Well, um the void starts to wake up to itself.
Right.
Right.
Consciousness starts to realize, oh, there's there's nobody here. Maybe my whole story is full of Right. You know?
>> [clears throat] >> And then of course you encounter all of the programming that says there's something wrong with not being here.
There's something wrong with being nobody. And that is heavy. Those are painful beliefs that every human being has that still believes they're their mind. The only reason you want to be your mind is because it's not okay to not be a mind, which is the truth unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it. If you If you could like uh give some instructions on how to be in the moment, is there some way you would you would explain it to like a brand new student?
>> Yeah, I would I would never I would work with the negative side of it. Never be like try to implement something.
Recognize the facts. So, rather than saying try to be in the moment, prove to me that that's not always happening.
That that's not always the case, you know? And uh So, that that would be the practices.
It's not about trying to adopt a truth cuz if you're adopting the truth, it's not the truth at all. Truth by its nature can't be adopted. It's what's already the case if it's the truth. So, it's about focusing on the fact that it's just focusing on the truth that you can't you can't be in the moment more because you are the moment. Literally the attempt to be in the moment is the attempt to leave it.
Right. You know? So, then well, this sounds like there's no way to practice, you might say. No, you can ask that question. You can question the assumption that you're not in the moment. That is a practice.
You know, that's where the method came from, which is what's real comes first.
Mhm.
You know, what is real? Oh, I'm the moment. This moment never really goes anywhere ever.
Can I leave [clears throat] it? No.
Okay, well, I'll stick with that. I'll put that truth first, you know. So, that's a practice. It's a kind of a benign pretty harmless practice. Most practices are just wrought with destruction.
Mhm.
And how the struggle, but it's a pretty mild spiritual practice just to focus, bring attention back to the facts of things.
You know, so that would be the practice I recommend is just continuously focusing on what can't be denied. And this practice you can do all the time, essentially.
You can do it as often as you want, and it really doesn't matter cuz you're still going to be doing it and
