This video demonstrates how to build a small outdoor step landing using quick-set cement as a leveling base for pavers, showing the complete process from measuring and preparing the frame to installing pavers and adding gravel, with the builder charging $570 for the job including materials (half bag of quick-set cement, half bag of gravel, and two pavers at $5-6 each) and approximately 1.5 hours of labor.

The $34 Step Build... Charged $570!
Added:Welcome back to another video, guys.
Today we are putting a little landing uh below that step there. We've got two pavers. We've got some tools here, pavers, some gravel.
Uh actually, there's cement I got to get in the car as well. And we're going to just put a little border around there and put some pavers and some gravel. It's pretty much it. Pretty simple job, but yeah.
We are going to get started. Now, with the pavers, I'm going to actually level them with quick-set cement. But I'm going to make it like a bit drier, so it's sort of like paver cement. I've never done it this way, but I feel like it's going to be stronger than just paver cement or sand or or bedding or whatever they use.
I'm the landscaper. I don't know what they use, but I feel like quick-set cement just underneath the paver, you know, level leveled. I feel like that's going to be pretty good. It's going to be strong. But anyway, we'll see. I got to go get the cement and do the border, and yeah, let's do it.
>> There's a little landing. That's all measured up and square.
Um these were 695 plus whatever thickness is on both the sides. Um that's all level, too. So, those >> [snorts] >> those posts were actually level um with that with the bottom step. So, back it level and this has been level, too.
That's pretty cool.
Um what we did is we went down and we made that 180 because these these uh steps are 180. That's standard. So, we'll do that 180 when we put the pavers in.
Uh we'll build them up on the on the cement 180 and then we'll just fill in fill in around it. So, let's put a paver in actually and have a look.
Let's have a look.
One.
Let's make them a bit even.
See how that go.
Let's see this uh yeah, so that's all right. That's all right.
So, really we could probably actually dig out a little bit cuz there isn't so much like where it needs to be.
I'll dig out a little bit. There's concrete there, so I can't dig down too much.
But, that'll be up some um gravel around there. I will have to dig out cuz this is almost level here. So, there's not enough room for any cement.
That's probably level there. It's sitting up a bit.
>> [laughter] >> So, that's all right. Yeah, so it'll look pretty good coming down.
It was just a add some add to stick at the add to stick cuz that is like Well, that's 70 mil plus 180.
What's that? 240? It's probably like 250 mil step here. That's too fast it. So, yeah.
Anyway, let's dig this out a little bit and then we'll get mixing the cement.
>> [laughter] >> All right. I am Let me just adjust this.
All right. So, I actually had a change of thought and I want to actually lower these about 10 mil from the outside.
Um just sort of contain it cuz some of these rocks to contain the rocks a bit more or the gravel.
Um silly me, I always do this. I got three bags. I I needed barely one.
So, take them back at a credit, but anyway.
Yeah, good little landing.
I actually put this up last job here.
Uh put this this thing up and then he wanted this here just for safety just cuz that that step was too big.
Too big, but now it's good.
So, yeah.
They happy with that. I was going to clean up a bit and then I'm out of here. So, yeah, that's 180.
So, yeah, 180 180 180 180. Uh before it was 180 180 180 260 or something. So, bit uh bit too much. All right, just a quick little small job small little video for you guys. Um I don't really like like landscaping, but that is technically landscaping, but it's not really for me to be honest.
And that quick set's going to be good. I don't know why people don't or maybe they do. Let me know in the comments. Do people use cement to level out pavers and stuff? I'm not sure.
Uh I just saw it.
I mean, it's it's not going to be washed away, so it'll stay there. So, yeah.
Anyway, if you like the video, let me let me know. If you didn't, let me know, too. Let me know what what you would have done differently.
Um but I think it looks pretty good.
It's good little good little step.
Um as always, actually, before I sign out, I always tell you how much I charged for that. So, this was in a bundle. I don't I've done a few jobs here, but we will I'll tell I'll tell you exactly what I charged just for that bit.
All right, so for that little step, $570 including GST, which is pretty good, you know. Used half a bag of quick sand cement half a bag of gravel two pavers of five six dollars each so two pavers was like 15 bucks not bad I know you guys like to know how much to charge so that's a good little job I'll see you for an hour and a half so anyway thanks for watching if you like the video please let me know and until next time see you later
