turning women into villains for sport: the parasocial olympicsAdded:
Oh, that's what started this. I'm sorry, but this picture of Tyler standing there would 100% be how I would be in that situation, too. This [ __ ] is so funny every time I see it. The whole interaction was honestly funny interaction or lack thereof. And it seemed like one of those moments where Tyler forgot she was a celebrity for a second. She was just in like awkward girl in front of her idol mode. And then she just came on the internet for a second to kind of clarify what the context of the clip was and to kind of be vulnerable for a second.
I know. Oh my gosh. How dare she?
Everyone knows I love. So I met her last year. I think she was occupied cuz she was like I was like I went up to her. I was like, "Oh, hey."
She was like, "Hey, um, um, my baby dad is calling me." And then she left and I was like, "Oh, maybe she was busy." So, I don't know. I felt awkward. What the heck? I felt awkward. I don't know how to say hi.
If I feel like someone's busy, it's like So, this time I was waiting for my call and she was right there and I was Yeah.
So this time, yeah, I don't want to go up because I feel like she was busy, you know what I mean? And the last time she was busy, so I I want to like when we do speak, if we do end up speaking ever, I wanted to be like calm so we both can just, you know, vibe and talk nicely.
>> And on the flip side, the internet forgot that Tyler is a human being. I know I'm just dropping all the bombshells right now, guys. Tyler just did what I told y'all to stop doing.
Stop posting every single human interaction y'all have. Honestly, I think the internet forgets sometimes how real human interactions work, especially in a high intense situation like a Met Gala.
I can't even begin to understand that.
But even just normal day-to-day human interactions are not super clean and precise and like there's definitely not a huge narrative to every single human interaction because not only has the internet made a whole blown narrative and story based on this few seconds of interaction, which literally based on what we seen wasn't a much of her interaction at all. But now there are genuinely people making full-blown accusations and assumptions about people's feelings and honestly just using this as an opportunity to be kind of mean-spirited.
>> Rihanna ignored Tyler because of that tweet from back in the day.
>> Tyla is shaking. Tyla has gone live a few days ago to talk about basically being snubbed at the Met Gala by Rihanna. make me sweat, make me water artist did a live that I'm going to show you right after this clip where she said maybe she was occupied. No, Tyla, I think she just doesn't like you.
>> And it's in a way that I've noticed is a pattern within women in the music and entertainment industry. And honestly, point blank period, it's getting parasocialist. So, let's talk about it while I get ready cuz you know it's time for another unfiltered get ready with me. Hey y'all. Welcome or welcome back to Boss Girlified. It is your girl Teea.
Now I am actually getting ready to go to Filthy Animal in Tempe. I've been wanting to go for so long. It just like never happened. All I got to say is the internet would hate me if I was a celebrity, okay? Because I'm awkward as hell, too. And I like to be real. And I feel like sometimes a lot of people don't really like authenticity, which is kind of ironic because a lot of us have been screaming about wanting more authenticity for a really really long time. So, it's kind of like hm when a celebrity kind of just comes online to be vulnerable for a second, all of a sudden it's like, god forbid. But anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself cuz this situation just bothers me for so many reasons. Tyler is a singer from South Africa and her music is like very I'm Emma I'm a piano freaking Afro beats type of vibes music and Tyler naturally has said that someone like Rihanna or Rihanna specifically is one of her idols like she really looks up to her.
>> Who is who is your top five artist of all time?
>> I obviously Michael Jackson Rihanna also Rihanna just loved that she was able to come from somewhere outside of America and make a song. She has mentioned in multiple interviews how much of an inspiration Rihanna is to her and from what I've seen it's always been in a pretty respectful manner. Every artist has someone that they look up to. For Michael Jackson it was James Brown. For Beyonce it was Michael Jackson.
Everybody, every artist takes inspiration from someone. I don't know why suddenly with some people it's totally unacceptable for that to be the case and when that happened, but apparently that's the case with Tyla. To be fair as well to Rihanna, Rihanna seems like the type that when she wants to give her flowers, she will give the flowers. She will make sure she goes out of her way to collaborate with you, especially if you're an artist because they are in the same field of work.
Music artists are very aware of other music artists. So for example, someone like an Arya star has gotten a lot of public admiration and recognition from Rihanna.
>> Oh my god, >> we're finally finally >> Oh my god, you're making this vlog.
Stop.
>> So basically, everyone started pointing out the fact that Tyler was back there looking awkward. Even before Tyla said anything at all, people were trying to make claims that Rihanna was ignoring her and making these whole story lines and basically saying that Tyla or Rihanna doesn't like Tyla for this and that reason and just becoming extremely speculative over like Tyla being in a 3se secondond long clip if even that I'm scratch that.3 second clip. Let's actually run that frame by frame. Like I genuinely don't think this girl was in that frame of that specific video that went viral for more than 3 seconds and here we are.
So Tyla was basically like, "All right, guys. Let's just address the elephant in the room." Okay, very raw, candid, just kind of like, "Hey guys, kind of look a mess right now." But basically, the context of that very awkward clip is that I actually met Rihanna last year, mind you. And a lot of people are twisting her words here. They're saying that this is what she's saying this interaction was like. So basically she said, "Oh, I met Rihanna last year." And um she was like preoccupied. So it was kind of awkward cuz I was like, "Hey."
And uh she was like, "Oh, my baby daddy's calling me." Or whatever. So she left. And then she was like, "Yeah." So that's why this time I was a little awkward cuz I didn't want to interrupt her when she was busy or when she looked like she was busy. I look crazy right now, but I just woke up. My voice is raspy.
Basically, y'all, everyone knows I love Re. Oh my gosh.
So, I met her last year and she was cool. You know, I met her, but I think she was occupied cuz she was like I was like I went up to her. I was like, "Oh, hey."
She was like, "Hey, um um my baby dad is calling me." And then she left and I was like, "Oh, maybe she was busy." So, I don't know. I felt awkward. What the heck? I felt awkward. I don't know how to say hi.
If I feel like someone's busy, it's like So, this time I was waiting for my call and she was right there and I was Yeah. So, this time, yeah, I don't want to go up because I felt like she was busy. You know what I mean? And the last time she was busy. So I I want to like when we do speak, if we do end up speaking ever, I want it to be like calm so we both can just, you know, vibe and talk nicely.
Honestly, very commendable, very respectable. I'm the same way, too. I'm a very read the room type of girl. So, if I feel like the energy is a little awkward, I'm probably not going to say I. I'm probably going to stand exactly like that. Especially if it's your freaking icon, guys. Like, oh my goodness. Give the girl a damn break.
remind you too, Rihanna is not some big villain either in this story. Even if she doesn't like Tyla or whatever thing, Rihanna's a human being. Okay, that's another part of this whole parasocialism, too, guys. She is a human being.
>> Oh, she's not happy.
>> Oh, she's not happy.
>> I'm looking at >> They are not happy.
>> They're not happy. Are they arguing?
Low key looks like they were partying when they left.
Are you going to sit up here and tell me that every single day of your life you have a great night, you have a great day? More specifically, do you have to then go to the Met Gala, which is a big event for celebrities? A lot of celebrities do try to go if they can and perform. And I'm not saying this to be like, oh, poor poor celebrities. I'm just saying that realistically, if any of us were in that position 24/7 or as often as a lot of these celebrities would are, we would have moments where we probably are not the happiest on the red red carpet or whatever the case may be. And that's totally okay. It doesn't mean that we need to then create all these narratives and blow things out of proportion because of a perceived interaction. That was all of not even it wasn't even an interaction. That's the craziest part. So, if you're waiting for the punchline of why Tyler's video made people get into a frenzy, that was it.
That was the punch line. That's what made people go in a frenzy. So this video that Tyl made basically explaining her perspective of you know why that clip looked so awkward. People started saying that Rihanna hates her and this is why and basically coming up for all these reasons as to why Tyla is a horrible person to support and why of course Rihanna wouldn't support her.
She's an industry plant sent to replace her and all of these other stuff that just seem again way too disproportional for what the situation calls for. Real short and sweet. The reason why Rihanna and um Tyler will never probably be friends, celebrity friends, is because Tyler has passive aggressive personality traits. Mhm. She has look at me, I'm the sweet, innocent girl. And then when you're not around her, she got little stuff to say behind your back. And I feel like that is the reaction to the incident that occurred at the Met Gala.
I'm not talking about anything else. I'm talking about this specific reaction because if you look up to her so much and you love her so much, why would you disclose what happened between y'all?
Because that is the biggest thing about being a celebrity is the fact that I can trust you that my information and the interaction and what you see at this party and where we're what we're doing and where we're going is not going to end up on social media the very next day. That's number one. She can't be trusted. So, you've already shot yourself in the foot there. And not only with Rihanna, you might be shooting yourself in the foot with other celebrities cuz now they're like they might you might have a target on your back now because you're the type of person that need an NDA. you can't come to our party. She has to sign an NDA just because of her past behaviors with other celebrities. Like I don't understand what type of media training is happening in South Africa. So that's number one. And number two um is how she says little things like when she was like oh when I walked up she was like what's that all about?
I don't know. But in the Americas specifically as a black American woman say what you mean and mean what you say and be very direct. Don't do the passive aggressive. I'm just uh cuz that'll get you messed up real quick. Real quick.
And Rihanna don't seem like the type to fool around and play with people like that. So the fact that you was like, "Oh yeah." And I went up to her and she was like, she walked away and I was like, "Yeah, that's a problem." And then two, why are you mentioning her child's father? And then the way that she said it. Do y'all even say baby daddy like that in South Africa? I don't know. Her baby daddy. Her baby daddy.
What? Yeah. Two, three strikes, you're out. You're out. You want. And she really loves Rihanna because she says that Rihanna was one of those people that was a outsider to America and she was invited to the club. Do y'all not understand? So, y'all have these TED talks and dissertations online about Tyler not needing America, but baby, it's not about need. It's a want. She wants to be included in the in the party. She wants to be in the inner circle. Let's just say Rihanna is not happy with the fact that she is is being presented as the next Rihanna. Even if it's not from Tyler herself, the industry themselves, it might be y'all.
It might be y'all. It might be. Have we ever considered? It might be the people that are constantly pitting women against each other that are making women think, hm, maybe we are supposed to be against each other, even subconsciously.
And that can't leak out into the real world. And that doesn't mean that either of them are these big huge villains.
It's literally not that deep. And we don't have enough information to definitively make any claims about how either of them feel about what. But now we have people making these objective like statements and basically saying that Tyler is this and that and she made disparaging comments about the black community which from what I understand okay I did my investigations a while back when I heard about this too and I did some investigations again when I'm was scripting for this where people were getting this from because I've seen that comment a lot of like oh Tyla doesn't want to be black she said she's not black she said she's colored and she's also from South Africa I'm not South African So I can't and I'm not even remotely familiar with South African culture. Okay. But based on what Tyler was saying, she was saying she considers herself as colored.
>> Like what's her heritage? Do you know what I'm saying?
>> Yeah. So it's very complicated. like yo in South Africa um yeah like mixed people we are called actually colored people which is actually like kind of controversial because internationally that's like a derogatory term you know but for us that's our that was that's I'm saying that's our genre that's our race like in forms we have to write that like that's what we are >> so that's what I am um but when people ask for specifics it's very hard to say because it's been lost lost over so many years. Like I I I only know so much like from what I hear from my parents, you know, but I can't really give you direct answers >> that I do understand. Like if that's where you're from, obviously that's going to be what you naturally default to referring to yourself as because again, you're that's kind of social conditioning. Like that's kind of ridiculous to expect people to completely change their vernacular or like how they describe themselves because of where their fan base is. Like I don't know. I don't even know where some of this logic comes from. I'm genuinely trying to be fair and objective here and understand where people come from with certain things, but I just I can't. I give up. And a lot of people in short are just blowing this situation out of proportion. And I feel like this is a lot of the same behaviors that leads a lot of female celebrities, more specifically, to have issues with each other that otherwise probably wouldn't have issues with each other if the internet just left them alone. So, Tyla has now spoken on her interaction with Rihanna at the Met Gala after a lot of people called their interaction awkward. And being real, their interaction may have been a little awkward, but I think a lot of y'all are blowing it out of proportion because Tyler said she was cool. I think that she was occupied and I went up to her and was like, "Oh, hey, you know," and she was like, "Hey, um, my baby daddy is calling me." And then she left. I definitely don't think that this situation is as big as people are blowing it to be, but it did definitely seem like Rihanna brushed Tyler off because she was occupied with whatever ASAP Rocky had going on. And I don't see the big drama of this all because that is literally her baby daddy. I think we seen the multiple clips of Rihanna being irritated with ASAP. I guess he was talking to some girl and getting a bit touchy at the Met Gala in front of her and she was not having it. But in Tyler's video, she said y'all know she love her some Rihanna. So, at the end of the day, I don't really think it was any disrespect. I think that Rihanna was stressed out with ASAP Rocky. It was probably just not the time. But at the end of the day, I can definitely see why a lot of y'all are like, "Oh, maybe Rihanna don't like Tyler." Cuz that was a brush off. I mean, immediately after Tyler asked her something, she said she got to go her baby daddy. So, y'all should just see how she's looking at me. And she's like, "Bitch, if you do it again." Damn, my bad. I can't sneeze now. Sorry, sister. Little things, especially with women, are blown out of proportion. Like, we've seen it done time and time again. And I really do feel like a lot of women in the industry, in music, and acting, like in all of these different spheres that have had issues with each other. I feel like a lot of the issues really did get amplified by the media. I'm going to apply just a little bit more powder to my this area because whenever I apply more blush in this area, it always gets kind of greasy looking. So, I'm just going to remattify that up a little bit and go under my eyes just a little bit more as well. It's time for me to reup on a new powder, too. So, I told you guys that I do like the Laura Mercier, but I do like the Hood of Beauty because it's more it makes your skin look more like a filter, but I like this more because it's better for my dry skin. So, if you guys have any product or powder recommendations for me to try out when I buy my next powder, let your girl know in the comments. But the fact that people are even labeling this whole situation as an interaction to begin with tells me everything I need to know.
People are constantly waiting for a moment to jump down a woman's throat.
Going in with my one size. I like to do my setting spray before I do highlight on my nose cuz if you know, you know.
Okay. If you know, you know. Luna, why are you like judging me right now? Like, she is judging me so hard right now, y'all. They didn't even look at each other in this clip. Rihanna was literally looking the completely opposite direction. And the funny thing is, people are making it out to seem like Tyler is so evil and so wrong and so unnecessary for making this video and talking about it and like that she's just dulging all of these deep dark secrets and she needs an NDA and all of these other stuff. Guys, it was not even a 30-second video of her explaining the context to a video that's actively going viral. Mind you, the girl did not say anything mean or out of character or just impolite or rude at all about Rihanna. If anything, she spoke very highly of her. And I feel like again, it's one of those things where a lot of people think that celebrities, especially depending on status, are untouchable and like you shouldn't say anything that should be seen or that's not objectively extremely positive about them. And again, I think I it's it's tied into so many issues with social media right now in general. I think we could even talk about how there's a huge lack of nuance in a lot of conversations online right now. So people hear something that's objectively not negative or positive. It's just, you know, genuinely explaining the context of a clip and take it as a general genuine dig at someone. Like you really do have to spell it out explicitly to some people online now. And if you don't, you're going to get crucified for saying something that you didn't even say or being labeled as having an intention that you clearly did not have.
And then we have a whole bunch of people who more than likely never be in that situation to begin with saying what Tyler should and should not have done.
Well, if she wanted to say hi to Rihanna, she should have just went up to her. I mean, that's kind of why she explained in that video why she didn't go up to her. That's again why it's kind of telling to me that some people just don't genuinely listen to what people say. They just want to hear what they want to hear because they've already made their mind up about a person. What they say doesn't really matter at the end of the day because they've already decided that they don't want to like the person. So, literally nothing they say will change their mind. By the way, you guys, these freaking perfume oils, I've been getting comments about it on my Instagram. By the way, you guys should go follow me. I've been posting real consistently on there, okay? I'm probably going to film a few reals before I leave. But this freaking oil is delicious. I get it from the beauty supply store. It's called Remy Co. Y'all might want to call them folks and ask them where it's from because I really don't know. It's not a company. Oh, okay. Actually, it's called Body Oils by Brenda. Okay. Body Oils by Brenda. That one was the um Sex on the Beach. It's very cherryesque, which is so my vibe, but it's a little too sweet for me. So, I like to like strengthen it or like musk it up a little bit with the Bordon Roma Valentino. I need to get the full bottle of this. I've been getting this mini for like so long, but it's actually so freaking good. I love how it smells on my skin. It's very elevated, guys. I almost always sneeze when I spray perfume. It's just like a tea thing, I guess. And if you have a genuine intention, you would quickly realize that Tyla was not coming off as mean-spirited at all in that video. And you could tell that was not her intention. It didn't seem malicious, and it didn't seem like she was even trying to tarnish Rihanna's name in any way, shape, or form. She didn't even say anything negative about Rihanna. It genuinely read to me as a raw moment of a celebrity just explaining a really awkward clip. Whether or not Rihanna likes Tyla, it should not be up to us as the internet to judge who's right and who's wrong in a situation we have no context of. And even if we look at the way that people treat Tyler versus even someone who has a closer relationship to Rihanna, like ASAP Rocky, it's very telling that a lot of this is genuinely coming from a place of misogyny. There have been things that ASAP Rocky has objectively said that have outwardly been not in the best light or favor of black people. So, it's kind of interesting that some people are using this whole like, oh, well, she said disparaging things about the black community when in reality, what she said that people are referring to was about how she selfidentifies versus what someone like ASAP Rocky said, which I just went through this rabbit hole today. I didn't even know about this was basically that black women or dark-kinned women can't pull off certain things like fair-skinned women can't like red lipstick.
And not only that, he said some very interesting things about Black Lives Matter and when people were protesting about Ferguson, um he basically said that it doesn't really affect him because he doesn't live in Ferguson. He lives in Soho and Beverly Hills. If anything is to warrant criticism, it would be should be something like that versus how Tyler selfidentifies. Again, I feel like if this was something that happened with men, it wouldn't be a conversation at all. And also, of course, there's something to be said about how normalized parasocialism to this extent has become because now it's completely normal for people to build a whole narrative over such a short interaction. Rihanna was clearly going through something that night. We don't know if it had what it had to do with and Tyler was just there and a little awkward and that's the meat and potatoes of the situation guys. You are under spells people. We don't know these people at the end of the day. Okay, so anyways guys, this is the fit. Let me show you guys real quick. This is the dress. It's from Outcast. It's very cute, very open back, you know what I mean? very cutesy with these burgundy um pumps and my very favorite trusted Christian Dior bag. I love this bag. It goes with everything. You could dress it up, dress it down. I've been wearing this bag non-stop. Okay, anyways y'all, let me know what you guys thought about this topic as per usual in the comments down below. It has been your girl TA and I will see you on another video soon.
Bye.
