Crow knew someone had killed Jake. Knew his men had fled and this was his response. He was cleaning house removing weakness.

He's killed men who were faster, stronger, more experienced. The only reason you're alive now is because he let Claraara fight first. I know, Grace said. Then you know you can't beat him straight up. What are you saying? Grace asked. Moses looked around. Making sure nobody was listening. I'm saying there are other ways to win. Ways that don't involve don't involve being faster on the draw.
