The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow maritime passage that serves as a critical artery for global energy supply, transporting approximately 20% of the world's oil, 30% of natural gas, and 30% of fertilizer. Since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, military strategists have identified this location as the highest priority contingency concern, as Iran's potential closure of the strait during conflict could cause catastrophic damage to both the global and US economies.

Why the world's most dangerous choke point could crash the economy.Added:
That's 20% of the world's oil, 30% of the world's natural gas. There's other things like 30% of the world's fertilizer. That all comes through that little narrow wasp waist, that little bitty space. Um, and you can see right away, boy, if if Iran's mad, why don't they just grab it?
>> [laughter] >> Okay. What was the thing that triggered them closing it? So, in the 1930s is when oil was discovered in the Persian Gulf. Saudi Arabia was the first, 1938.
And once you discovered the one in Saudi Arabia, then it was quick soon after that you discovered, oh, Iraq has a puddle of oil, Iran has a puddle of oil, and so does Kuwait. Those are the four big puddles of oil in this in this area, and they're all like a horseshoe, man, around Hormuz. So, what happened was, Iran has always been we've we've had concerns for decades that Iran would in a military conflict close the Strait of Hormuz. So, because Iran used to be run by the Shah of Iran, who was an American puppet. We helped install him in the '50s. Then got toppled in '79, that's the revolution we hear about here, and well, since 1979, there's been a huge concern that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz if there was a conflict. And so, what does that mean if you're in the Pentagon? You got to think about Well, what are my priorities here? What are the dangerous things I need contingency plans on? And the number one is going to be Hormuz. If you wanted to crash the global economy or maybe the US economy, like, is there any one action that would do more damage than keeping the Strait of Hormuz permanently closed?
