This video provides a sharp sociological critique of how colonial "divide and rule" tactics continue to fragment regional identity long after independence. It effectively reframes petty island rivalries as the enduring structural legacy of imperial engineering.

🇯🇲🇹🇹 The Truth Behind Caribbean Island RivalriesAdded:
I hate Jamaica. Oh, I HATE JAMAICA.
I'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF HATE COMMENTS IN all of my TikToks from people from Trinidad. Sorry, it's a bit sunny out here. And they keep saying, "Oh, that Jamaican apple ain't a Jamaican apple.
That's a Trinidad apple. That KFC is ass. You need to try the KFC in Trinidad." What's the problem with this?
Why is everybody from Trinidad and hating on Jamaica?
Let me know. Is this something that's been going on for a very long time?
It just makes me frustrated. I'm over here talking about how beautiful Jamaica is, and then you got all these haters from Trinidad talking about, "Well, you need to come to Trinidad." Yeah, I do.
But when I get there, I'll make videos about Trinidad. For now, enjoy Jamaica.
First and foremost, Heel Jah Empire.
No miss you chin going around pon TikTok.
We are Jamaican comparing themself with Trinidad. Trinidad comparing themself with Jamaican. People let me tell you all of this. No other time >> [music] >> for comparison. No other time for we compare ourself with each other. Who better from who no better. No other time for we unite.
No other time for we pull together, especially the Caribbean countries them.
No other time for we separate and argue who better than who.
>> [music] >> No other time for we pull together. A together time now.
Together we stand, divided we are going to [ __ ] fall.
Full time for we [music] wake up now, man.
Jah release one. Trinidad, can you explain? Trinidad, explain to me what is the issue between Trinidad and the entire Caribbean.
I'm seeing comments where Trinidadians are fighting with Grenada, Trinidadians are fighting with Belizean, with St. Vince, Vincent, with Jamaica. I mean, Trinidad, you can't compete with Jamaica, to be honest with you. Wherever you go, all over the world, Jamaica is celebrated.
When people don't even know where Trinidad is located, Jamaica is being celebrated.
Like, you Trinidadian should be happy Jamaica exists because Jamaica actually put the Caribbean on the map.
You know, without Jamaica, nobody cares about the Caribbean. I mean, tourism in the Caribbean would probably wouldn't even exist without Jamaica.
So, you all need to basically be thankful that Jamaica exists in the Caribbean.
I'm out. There is something that is plaguing the Caribbean community for far too long. It is what I like to call old talk. And the old talk is that Jamaicans don't like you from Trinidad and Tobago, and people from Trinidad and Tobago don't like Jamaicans. Well, let me be the first to tell all of you that that could be the furthest thing from the truth, especially here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Do you know the amount of people here in this place that half Jamaican, half Trini? That rumor is all old talk. It's all bulltati. It is gabash. Basura. It ain't have no way that that rumor could be true because Jamaican girl really love Trini man. And Trini man really love Jamaican girl.
Vice versa. Ergo, we in love with each other. Trinies love a dancehall and a reggae. Jamaicans have their own carnival now. So, tell me, who hate who?
It's only love. Love. Maybe I'm wrong.
Only tell me. This war between Trinidad and Jamaica need to stop now. It need to stop now. It it it over been and it's been going on for ages. And it seems like the Jamaicans now, some don't want y'all Trinies. And I say y'all Trinies because I don't I don't use their songs.
I don't do their dance. I don't do any trend from Jamaica, right? So, they don't want y'all using their stuff because they will come in the comments and they will tell you all, "So, Trini, I don't a trending song. So, this young lady here posted a video of herself graduating.
It don't look like it is in Trinidad.
And you can see someone behind her they wrap the Trinidad flag over her shoulder, but she was using a song from Jamaica. I think it's by Machel Montano, not to my dream or something so. And boy, oh boy, all the Jamaicans in the comments telling her, "So, Trini, I don't have a song to use? Why you all using our music?
And we are trendsetters and blah blah blah." So petty. So petty. And the thing is this young lady never mentioned Jamaica name in it. She didn't even throw any word or even tag anything saying anything about Jamaica.
But they just find she shouldn't use their song.
Use a Trini song.
The real trendsetters. So, there is no Trini song trend? Congrats to We own style with we song.
Set on we own trend.
Use a soca song. So, we know Jamaica real trendsetters. So petty. So petty.
We need people think please now and use all their own thing.
What did we do all these Caribbean islands for them to hate us so bad? We did show these islands nothing but love, nothing but support, nothing but respect.
Caribbean islands hate Trinidad.
And I know that I might get some hate. I hope I don't because I'm genuinely asking, what did we do to these people?
This is the my business.
We playing all this steel pan. I see a video talking about who even care about steel pan? I saw that speed playing bouyon. Apparently that's like music in Dominica, I think.
And I love it so bad and I seen all Trinidadians and we saying like, "Oh my gosh, bouyon! We love it."
We playing all this steel pan is a problem. All this still our cry with high which it is, we know.
All beaches is terrible. Okay, I'll let that one slide. Oh, we can't say we have the best food.
We have the best food. Like, why do you all have a problem with us saying that? My problem is is you people that never even step foot out of their country that is saying these things.
Why do you all hate Trinidad so much?
We just see a video where a Trinidad man make and him a say him a upload evidence. Where him a upload some info where him get off of Google and a show we how Jamaica music come from calypso or reggae come from calypso. None of our music them no come from calypso. No our soca, no our no music a Trinidad, no way a Trinidad people. Me I go show uno Trinidadian, me I go show uno information because it come like say uno go up on Google uno self and go upload some information. I come go on like say people music resonate or come from uno culture. This, look up on this right now. Check out this. Look up on information and read this and tell me where you see calypso up on this.
You see how long me stretch it out? Make sure uno read that bomboclaat good. And make sure uno can read Trinidad people.
And me I go show uno where mento music come from now. Our music them in a Jamaica have nothing to do with Trinidad. Trinidad people, me tell uno already say go one side and stop claim uno never bring. You understand? Read this about mento now. This is how mento was created. Me just show uno reggae and me I show uno mento now. And if uno want me show uno dancehall because Trinidad people come like say uno no sense. Read this.
>> And this is 100% the real information of where Jamaica music came from. You understand? So read that and make that soak in on your thick skull, Trinidad people, and stop mention about Jamaica music come from calypso. When you say calypso in a any one of them in for that, when you go outside, man, in a real life. A lot of mess.
Jamaica music come from Africa and the British, not Trinidadian, can come tell we about our history. Trinidad, stop contract garbage out of someone. We see Trinidad has styled Jamaica up on a post and a talk about Jamaica there in a box seat. We see a woman there upon the top of your temple and I can run off your mouth and I talk about say people in a Jamaica say calypso and soca music no nice. Nobody in a Jamaica never say soca music no nice. Which Jamaicans you hear say soca music no nice? Jamaicans always a party for soca music. You know say your carnival in a Jamaica big where come from over Trinidad. You know say your carnival big in a Jamaica. So when you are tell life and I try make a post out of this and we see a page a post and a talk about say Jamaican a concept calypso and their music. No, we only say dancehall better than soca. And that we say. We say our music bigger than your music, Trinidadian, and that and that's why you know vex because you know go on like say everything you know a number one in a Trinidad. Remember say you know are the first country in a Caribbean, you know, to have people politics, you know, and all Jamaica can't get independence before we know. You understand? Trinidad, you know have a high GDP, but you know have a high GDP $25 billion and Jamaica there less, $22 billion. But the richest man come from Jamaica see him here. The richest man in a Jamaica were richer than the richest family of Trinidad. You understand? So what Trinidad has size up about? That $25 billion there are for the government. No no no no Trinidad and Tobago no have it. You understand?
Jamaica people are richer than you. So, when you not talk about GDP and the people them talk about and stop talk about the money where the government have control over.
You see me Trinidad? Trinidad, nobody not style with the music soca because we like soca music. You understand? But our music bigger than soca music. That we are saying.
Stop country I tell you. But the music come from calypso folk music or American music. The music mentor first come from the British and the Africans.
You understand? The British and the Africans. And from mento we rest our music then rise from that come up. So, the music not come from nowhere there so. You understand? American music come from our music. Hip hop come from dancehall. So, stop come chat off your mouth there so man. You understand what me I say? American music come from our music. Not our music come from America.
So, don't come run off your mouth there so Trinidad woman and shut up and go one side. You come here and say with your loud mouth a bad mind. We know bad mind Jamaica. Jamaica more famous and popular than Trinidad by far. Nobody know Trinidad. Go one side. And Lara the biggest star over there so. Lara. Not even Nicki Minaj no rate to know. So, don't come here and say I run off my mouth and a bad mind Jamaica no want give me glory. Go away man. The music not come from Trinidad.
Listen, please do. Do me a big enough.
Me other Caribbean country, please me a only please not hear to me no more. Do.
Do me a big enough. Listen, it's not our fault. It is not our fault that we is who we are. Okay?
Jamaica is just known for what it's known for. Now, think about it. Which other Caribbean country you know, right?
That have the Well, we have what? 3 million people?
Roughly, there about 3 4 million.
And and and we are the third largest uh country in the Caribbean. I say go at the third. Listen, we smile.
Right?
But when you say Caribbean, when you say Caribbean, if you say you're from the islands, if you say you're from the Caribbean, if you have a hint of an accent, what's the first Hm? Okay, thank you. And then, and I mean I know I'm not upset about that, you know, cuz nobody likes to be Yeah, anyway. And then, think about what we have contributed.
I'm I'm not saying that the other islands don't contribute nothing. I'm not saying that y'all don't have beautiful beaches and good food and all the good things. We all have We all share that, right? But our culture, our music, our food, right? Our athletes, okay? We sing a How many celebrities, how many people on a whole you know where the US kind of round the world have had a grandmother, great-grandmother, them have some roots that is from Jamaica. Now, you have other people from obviously other islands, right? But we have the most celebrated set of people in the world from the Caribbean. So, do me a beg you.
ONLY EAT WITH A BOY BECAUSE YOU DON'T SAY I saw speed go down there cuz start things, you know.
And and and I go on. Him save the best for last. I see it there now. Lord have mercy, the hater ration is going to be of a of a different level.
But yes, think about it. We are We We produce the some of the fastest runners in the world. Reggae music is everywhere. And which part of the earth you can go and you don't know reggae? Hmm?
Okay, I'll wait. So, I'm just saying, please and thanks.
And I know for we fault, it's not our fault. Jesus. Lord have mercy, MAN. COME ON. WE ARE all Caribbean people, okay?
I We just happen to the Okay. All right.
Hello, my beautiful people.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> I have to fix my stance to make sure I'm stable and I'm balanced because this is a T-Quick's and bacchanal.
All right? And this one just came to me, you know, because of course of all the DMs and whatever I receive. And then we have a particular island that keep boosting about this self-proclaimed greatness. All right? They're running races and they're winning races and stuff. You all know about Muhammad Ali?
You know the story of Muhammad Ali winning the gold medal for America in boxing and he returned to America and was still treated as a third-class citizen or even a modern-day slave, where he had to take that gold medal and throw it in the river or the lake or wherever he threw it away because at the end of the day the gold medal meant nothing if he came back to a country that did not see him as anything more.
So, all of this I win gold medal and I win gold medal. What is this gold medal doing for your economy and people besides clout?
Cuba has more than double the amount of gold Olympic medals than Jamaica.
Yet, Jamaica is boasting that they are the best. You are not. There are other islands that beat you, surpass you, far gone. And you don't hear them boasting.
But here's the other thing. Cuba does not only have more gold medals than you, they have more doctors than you that you needed to depend on them for doctors so the beating in the gold medals and you needed to depend on them for your basic health care.
So when you say you're winning, what are you winning?
At the end of the day money runs the world.
Power runs the world. You having gold medals doesn't mean you run anything.
There are numerous islands, even islands that are still colonies that have surpassed Jamaica beyond from GDP, literacy rate, standard of living, whatever it may be. Yet you are here babbling babbling that you are great.
Now listen, I want to know what is the baseline you are using for your greatness. If you define that, then others who have critical, logical, and rational thinking skills can, you know, understand better because depending on the baseline you're using to define greatness, probably you are great.
Probably you have surpassed that greatness based on that baseline that you are using to quantify your greatness. But what I would like to tell you is that whatever baseline you're using is lower than the white line in the road. You all need to wake up and stop being delusional.
You all will win one thing and the whole swarm of you will come and talk about it and yeah, great great great great and spread propaganda that time it have other islands doing much more than you, but they're just quiet and humble about it and the ignorance that you spread and the people who do not know may be fooled. Listen, my people, Jamaica and Trinidad not in a no war. We just want Trinidad for understand the fact say Jamaica is number one and number one in the Caribbean. We are up there with the top countries in the world. The German, is the American, the France, and the China, and the Canada them. You understand?
England. Jamaica in a the A league with all of these big country. Trinidad, you cannot compete with us. First of all, you should just give us the glory as your Caribbean brother country as the number one country and just stop competing with us. We are up there.
First of all, Trinidad, you guys won Miss World one time. Jamaica win Miss World four time. We dominate sport. We dominate track and field. You understand? Yes, we dominate track and field. We even go World Cup already in a football. You understand? We have the number one female football player. We have the fastest man in all the world.
We have the fastest woman them in all the world. You get what I'm saying?
Jamaica have the best food in all the world. Jamaica have the best music icon them in all the world. Bob Marley, big legend, is from the man who formed the biggest black organization in all the world. Marcus Garvey inspired Martin Luther King and them man they were come from America. The man who go America go create hip-hop music was a Jamaican.
Jamaican is so great in the world. We even entered a win that sport called bobsled. We beat Russia where covered by snow. We beat America where have so much snow and we beat France. We beat countries. Jamaica bobsled team in a 1994, we beat Russia, France. You understand?
Jamaica is just a great place. Back in the days, all of the white people them in all Jamaica did richer than all of the white people them in all America.
That is still Jamaica. You understand?
Jamaica is a place where no country in all the Caribbean cannot compete with.
Jamaica, people from a long time is the only place to defeat the England soldiers them. Back in the days, the maroon them defeat the England soldier them. Jamaica is just a great place. You understand? Jamaica have a whole heap of historical history about it.
My people, what else I'm missing out about Jamaica what Jamaica great in?
There is so much thing. We have the number one female footballer in the world. Jamaica have the fastest man in the world. Trinidad cannot compete with Jamaica. Trinidad don't have what it takes. Trinidad, you understand? And when I'm saying this, this is not war.
This is all about love. Same way your life is about competition, but don't bring hate in the competition and war in the competition. Just know say Jamaica is the number one. And all of the Caribbean must see that and acknowledge that. We have whole heap of things that make we the number one and make we up there with all of the top country them in the world like Germany, America, England, France, Spain, and Korea and China. You understand? And Canada. In a real life, a myth.
Listen, when I say I'm from the land of the most beautiful women, this is a prime example of what I am talking about. I ain't saying we ain't I ain't saying socially challenged people in TNT, but check the background. Most of them is immigrants. Remember all of them in school, your singular and plural pronouns?
I am, you are, he, she, it is. What the hell is this? I don't know. I can't identify. So, don't twist my words, yeah? I have no problem with anybody and any community. I love them all. At the same time, yeah, I don't know where to classify this one. This one still still looking for a home. Give the dog a bone.
Leave the dog alone. Let the dog roam and he'll find his way home. And I hope this one find a home because I want to know if Jamaica claiming this one.
Cuz what I'm seeing here is a Jamaican mascot, but I want to know if Jamaica claiming this one.
And this whole thing about when I put this Jamaican flag on my chest, and I take off the S off of Superman's chest, and I take off the B off of Batman's belly, don't test. Eh, eh, I only know it's soca that's give me me powers. AI, I ain't know when you put on a flower or the colors on you, you just turn into a superhero. So, people supposed to afraid of you. All right?
All of them are comments. One set of good like Scotland flag right through right through. People supposed to see that and become scared. Oh my god, you ain't see the flag? Like you put up the the the cross of Jesus and and and vampires supposed to run when they see that flag go up there. Oh my god, we supposed to afraid them.
Come on.
All of you talking about we we we we we we we we like French big. And we do this and we do that and we like if nobody else can do the same thing or better.
Right? And it's okay to love yourself, but you're not going to come and play as you're the biggest and the baddest at the expense of others. That that is what we're not going to do. So, you can't want to demand respect and not give it.
Right? I can't understand that if it's how fast you run 9.something seconds or whatever.
It's It's a 365 days in a year, 9 months to make a baby, 12 months in a year.
24 hours in a day. All of you know how this going. And all of you making 9.something seconds run all of you and feel all of you do something that that nobody could do ever or didn't do or or or whatever the case may be. Right? I am so sorry for the people who representing all the country because they can lost, they can get injured, they can do nothing because once they lost, that's it. All of you will tarnish them. Once they win, they superhero. And that's too much of pressure to put on any human being. And all of you pressure. You ain't see all of them want to run for Turkey and run for other country and whatever. They're running away. Huh?
They ain't running no water, running away. Cuz one of you ain't paying them and it's too much of pressure. And if they love their yard so much, they're willing to go and run. I see this Jamaican man beating up Trinidad, beating up Trinidad. Brother, you is so much. You is so much.
It can't be more than 30. Brother, Trinidad is our Caribbean brothers and sisters.
Trinidad is home to all different nationality. Right?
And some people who are living Trinidad go to America.
You're talking about reggae music.
Reggae music was made in Jamaica, yes.
But people from Trinidad contributed to Jamaican reggae music.
Lynn Taitt was a guitarist born in San Fernando, Trinidad.
Went We look moved to Jamaica and become a pioneer.
Lynn Taitt played in Bob Marley's song Bob Marley's song "Long Time We Don't Have No Nice Time". And he also played in Alton Ellis' "Girl I've Got a Date".
And Lynn Taitt is a icon in Jamaica in the '60s. The man contributed big to Jamaican reggae music, brother.
Right? And you don't know what you're talking about. You're talking and you don't sounding good, brother.
You don't sounding good. What you're saying not sounding good.
Trinidad and Jamaica, stop. If there's one beef I cannot accept is Trinidad versus Jamaica. Because I feel like this is a misconception that has been going on for so many different years that Trinys don't like Jamaicans and vice versa when that is far from the reality of the situation.
I don't know if you all noticed, but Trinidad shows Jamaica more love than any other Caribbean island to be very honest, especially its music. A lot of Jamaican artists admit that they got their most support from Trinidad itself.
Buju [snorts] said it, Sizzla said it, TJ said it and I feel like a lot of the people who talk about the hate have never actually have to any of the islands and they're just going over assumption because if you've been to Trinidad or you've been to Jamaica, you will realize that we actually do get along. I've been to Jamaica Jamaica is very dear to my heart. I met a lot of lovely people there, and I never got any bad treatment as a Trini. In fact, from the time they hear me accent, it was like "Oh my god, you're from Trinidad. I have a cousin. I have a sister. I have a somebody from Trinidad." And then they go "And then and then." Like one time I took a taxi and this man gave me a whole run. He was saying "Oh, we left Jamaica away from crime to go to Trinidad to end up more in Trinidad crime."
But this is why slavery happened because as black people, we are too divided. We are too tribal and always see everything as a competition and a one-up on somebody else. So you would sell out your own As a Caribbean, we should be united. So I really do understand the country and island wars. It's really unnecessary.
And clearing the air as a Trini, I think when Jamaicans come to Trinidad, I don't think they get any bad experience. I don't know if they could share, but a lot of them live among us.
In my village alone, if it's one saying Trini man love a Jamaican. Well, I don't know about Trini but it's Tobago.
Them Tobago man love a Jamaican woman.
You know much of them in my village alone.
Married Jami. Oh, we just call him Jami.
Jami selling chicken. Where I from? Big up Jami in Argyle, by the way. Big up Jami in Roxborough, where I from, too.
Dog.
The experience is not what you all making it out to be. So all of you need to stop it. Of course, on the internet they have all the time in people. They have very hyper patriotic people, right? I'm one of I would say I'm patriotic, but I'm the type of patriotic I don't bring down nobody else. You could big up your own without bringing down anybody else. And I feel like that's the problem with a lot of people. You feel that in order to validate your country you have to compare it and ridicule an ex-country.
Each Caribbean island is different. Some of us share similarities, but we need to learn to appreciate and love each other. Amen. In Jesus' name.
Hey, so guys, me think me know the reason why some of them Caribbean country no really like Jamaicans, you know.
Yeah, man.
Me think me know the real reason why.
Yeah, man. Them must say, "Yo, me no like me find people out there that say Jamaicans so bossy, you know."
Me understand what they mean by Jamaican too bossy, you know, because them come like them rather see we sit down and have we hand out we jaw like this and a worry and a wonder and a ponder.
More than we get up and go play out. Get we thing and come out and start feel good and start post about it and start talk about it. They no like it.
They no like it at all.
But guess what? Let me tell them something, Jamaicans put themself where they at right now. You understand me? A Jamaican put themself there.
You understand me? If we no sit down and a na na na na na going a certain things out.
We no can't jump up and say we are this and we are that.
You understand me?
Jamaican they get Jamaican they get so overpopulated right now.
We can't even stay yard. You all know.
You understand we need a bigger we need a bigger land. It spread out, you understand?
A Jamaican want a Caribbean country to listen.
We go there.
We go there.
We go there.
Every different type. Every different type out there.
When some other race decide to leave by themself.
You understand me? I'm breathing down them population. That's why some of them population are dropping, you know, man.
Some of them population small thing, you know.
but guess what? Jamaican Jamaican country with small and we liquor, but guess what?
We blood clot tallawah. You hear that?
We liquor, but we tallawah. And that's why we stay like this.
And that's why we so That's why we so hype up there.
You understand me?
So nobody going go on like say Jamaica no put themself in spot. Jamaica supposed to there. We put weself there.
We need a We need to get up and put weself there. We need to get a couple gold medal. Go get couple fast youth. Go get couple fast girl. Go play some cricket. You know what I mean? Go play some football.
Join some sport and put them name out there and put them country out there.
You understand me? By selling [ __ ] product and food kind alone can bring on the country out there or or or and them [ __ ] in You understand me? Me no hear say no and no Caribbean country out there now now now now join sports now now do do do do do certain things. We put them name out there. So the hell you no want to have big name?
You no want to have big name? You no want to have to get big name? You no want to have [ __ ] to get big name, Batman.
Check on the news. Check on TV, brother.
Jamaican all over. So why you think we should no feel good?
Some man no need to go check them history, man. And you no go out there go do things, man, make make people know the country out.
And stop come come come come jump on Jamaican because you no know you can't jump on Jamaicans.
You can't jump on Jamaicans.
And literally, Jamaican go out there and all over. Jamaican all over this world.
They not just in a Jamaica. That will show you how we tallawah. We liquor, but we tallawah. We all over.
We have kids all over.
We have family all over, different race of family.
Jamaicans can't dead so easy. You hear me? I tell you the population there whip this up.
Small population there down here so.
Yeah.
So you no go get no facts and no and no and no sense, right?
Well, the Jamaicans keep reminding us that they are the capital of the Caribbean. The guy is Well, he's saying he's clearly saying that um they are up there with the Americans and the the the British and the Canadians.
They are up there.
You know, I honestly at this point in time I don't even have think that the Jamaican knows what it means to be the capital of the Caribbean.
You know, when you are when you are living in a country where depends on tourism.
If the Americans were to put sanctions on you all and the same Canadians and the same British were to put sanctions on you all, what would happen to you all?
Would you all go back to the to the old days eating cassava and green fig and dumpling and you know?
What are you all going to do?
You all are the capital when it comes to entertainment.
And also when it comes to track and field sports, you all you all you all dominate there.
But when it comes to economy, Jamaica have the one of the worst economies in the whole Caribbean.
When it comes to money, your money has no former value. Your money could could never leave Jamaica.
You understand?
How how is that even being close to being a capital of of of of the Caribbean?
You know?
You all import more than you all is export.
Where are you all going to get money coming from?
The only country that is fit enough to be capital of the Caribbean is Trinidad and Tobago because Trinidad don't just dominate in sports. We don't just dominate in entertainment. We dominate in everything.
In every aspect.
And you all could never say that we are lying. When it comes to economy, when it comes to our the value of our of our money is not the best, but it's still way better than y'all.
You understand? We export a lot of things.
We export a lot of things. That is why CARICOM rely on us heavily. CARICOM don't rely on Jamaica.
The headquarters is not even set in Jamaica. The headquarters is in Guyana and Guyana is not even set in the Caribbean. Could you even imagine that?
How did y'all even think that y'all are the capital of this beautiful Caribbean?
Y'all are far from that. The only thing y'all dominate in is sports and entertainment such as music.
Everything else y'all Y'all Y'all don't have no good proper health care. Y'all don't have no no good proper school system. Y'all don't have none of these things.
Huh?
Capital where?
Stop fooling yourself, please. It's about time.
Trinidad and Tobago is the capital of the Caribbean. We going to leave it like that.
And let me just say one more thing. The Jamaican culture within the Caribbean is not as dominant as you may think y'all are.
Because no islands have Jamaican culture on their calendar.
No island.
Because they don't respect the Jamaican culture.
No island has a Jamaican culture on their calendar.
Look at Trinidad culture. It is on every calendar in the Caribbean. Because our culture may be not as worldwide, but this is respected.
Y'all understand? We qualify for being the capital of the Caribbean.
Suck out. Why do Jamaicans and Trinidadians go at it so hard? Britain made sure of it. It wasn't always like this.
Before colonization, Caribbean people were connected. Trade, culture, resistance. But the British had a strategy, divide and conquer. Make the colonies compete, never let them unite.
Jamaica became Britain's military stronghold. The enforcer, home to British naval bases, British troops, the center of colonial power in the region.
Trinidad became the economic prize.
Oil, sugar, the wealthiest colony per capita.
But always treated as secondary to Jamaica's strategic importance. Britain played them against each other. Gave Jamaica political prestige. Gave Trinidad economic resources. Made sure neither felt complete. When independence came, the rivalry intensified. Jamaica got independence first in 1962.
Trinidad followed in 1962 just weeks later.
Both rushed to prove they were the real Caribbean leader.
Jamaica had Bob Marley, Reggae, global cultural influence, the face of Caribbean identity to the world.
Trinidad had Carnival, Calypso, Soca, economic stability, the party capital.
But here's the truth Britain doesn't want you to know. That rivalry was designed, engineered, maintained.
Because united Jamaica and Trinidad could have led a unified Caribbean federation. A single powerful nation.
Economic and cultural dominance. Britain couldn't allow that. So they made sure Jamaicans saw Trinidadians as soft. Made sure Trinidadians saw Jamaicans as aggressive. Planted stereotypes, encouraged competition, celebrated division. And we're still falling for it. Arguing about who has better food, better music, better culture.
Meanwhile, Britain still profits from both islands. Still extracts wealth.
Still maintains influence.
The beef isn't about jerk chicken versus doubles. It's about colonial programming we never unlearned.
Imagine if Jamaica and Trinidad united, combined their influence, their resources, their talent. The Caribbean would be unstoppable.
But as long as we're beefing with each other, we'll never beef with the system that divided us. Comment if you're Jamaican or Trini. Tag your rival island friend. Follow for more truths about Caribbean unity they don't want us to see.
Wagwan, wagwan beautiful people of all Jamaica. Guys, thank you so much for always coming up. I truly appreciate your presence. I don't take it for granted. So, in today's video, I want us to talk about the beef between Trinidadians and Jamaicans and also at some point to talk about why most Caribbean islands don't really like the Trinidadians.
So, of course, when people come out and talk about this issue, they always joke about it.
You see Jamaicans versus Trinidadians, Bajans versus Trinidadians. Those are some of them.
Words are that they use or rather Guyanese versus Trinidadians.
And you know, it's also fascinating to know that even smaller islands sometimes come up and talk about the same thing. Um this is uh they actually tell us like why is it that the Trinis think that they are better?
So, this particular story, I can tell you it's deeper than the jokes that these people normally come out and say in social media.
And this particular issue and topic and story did not just start here.
And uh I can honestly tell you the issue between the Trinidadians and other Caribbean people, it started with the identity thing. It started with a survival issue.
Because guys, you see the Caribbean, I can tell you it's not like it's just one culture. When you talk about the Caribbeans, no, that is not just one culture.
This when you talk about the Caribbeans, these are many cultures that are found in one region.
And of course, all of them they do have different histories. They do have different economies. And of course, they experienced different colonial experiences.
And also, they have different social structures.
So, when you come out or if you hear people outside talking about these people, the Caribbean, you know, they think that they are one people. Okay, they are one people, but they have very different experiences socially, economically, culturally, historically.
So, in the Caribbean itself, people compete very, very hard to stand out, you know, down to be the best, to be known for probably culture, to be known to be to be the best, to be known for uh entertainment, you know. So, these particular Trinidadians, they became one of the most misunderstood countries in the region.
And that is because it's not like people ate them, no. It's not something personal. It's just that you see, Trinidadians they do represent something very uncomfortable to other islands in the Caribbean.
And that is, you see, when you talk about power without dominance.
That is something very big.
Jamaicans, on the other hand, they do dominate the culture globally, the music, the accent, the athletes. You see, when you talk about dancehall reggae, you associate it with Jamaicans.
So, these people that are not Jamaicans, you'll find them copying the Jamaicans language in some way.
And at the end, Jamaica [clears throat] became the face of the Caribbean. Oh my god.
That broke everything because it became the face. Okay, not in a bad way, but it contributed to the beef that exists uh now between the Jamaicans, the Barbadians, and the Trinidadians.
But if you look at economic-wise, Trinidad is at the top. You know, they have more industrial power. They have more energy wealth.
And you can imagine they do have more or higher income than any other island in the region of the Caribbean.
So, this created that beef, that friction that you see here that they Okay, you saw in the clips that we attached.
You know, culturally, Jamaicans felt very, very angry angry.
Or rather, you see, they used to feel very large at it. Yeah, they are known, but it sparked an outrage and anger and beef, financially, if you look at the situation, uh that is uh Trinidad is very strong financially, and that created a rivalry between the Trinidadians and other people in the region, more so the Jamaicans.
So, a lot of Jamaica a lot of Caribbean islands, they measure themselves most of the time against uh each other. Like, they talk about who has more influence than the other, who has more tourists uh visiting their island than the other, who has better economy than the others.
I mean, who has a strong passport. You see, those are some of the things, like who is more respected internationally. I mean, you see, these islands are small and these comparisons that happen frequently, they actually become emotional and personal. So, now, if you add uh migration in it, now you you're just mixing up everything because this is uh the point where things become complicated because for many, many years, uh Trinidadians, or rather Trinidad is an island, has been attracted attracting more migrants, and uh that is from nearby islands.
And you know, it really created uh that anger and uh division and rivalry that at the end of the day, you know, it doesn't really contribute to anything or make sense. So, people moved to Trinidad for work, uh to do construction, to work in the oil industry, to work in factories, and basically to get a our life better opportunity.
So when this migrations happen, I can tell you there is a lot of talk here and there and not just in the Caribbean but everywhere. If you look at Europe, if you look at America, South Africa, you know, people talk like so much and you see that is you see what's happening in South Africa. When there is so many migrants in their country, they okay like at the moment there are so many migrants in Europe, America, South Africa and their citizens are complaining. So if you look at those three continents that we just talked about specifically focusing on South Africa, America and the entire Europe is a continent. That is what became of Trinidad. They started complaining, they started you know telling people to go back to their country. Why don't they build their country? That's the same thing that is happening in South Africa currently as we speak by the way.
So This is where everything the beef and everything started because at this point Trinidadians felt like these foreigners are taking our jobs and again they are changing our culture.
They have become too many, they need to go back. We don't need more migrants into our beautiful island because we don't want them to change our culture.
So of course so many questions asked during that point and you know for instance people the Trinidadians would ask like why is it that these migrants that come to their country get opportunities faster and very quick even compared to the locals.
And you know, that will create tension.
And you know, most of the time when that happens, you'll see that migrants, I mean, they'll actually ask for little wages or little money for work done compared to the locals. And that has always brought or caused outrages in these countries and uh the continent in general.
So, at the end of the day, this becomes a highly highly highly talked about and debated topics.
And you know, because you see, if you look at the Caribbean region itself, you know, it tends to promote this image of unity and one Caribbean family. You know, they like they are one, but uh beneath or beyond that slogan of unity, there exists competition and pride. I mean, not just pride, but a lot of pride.
And of course, that's what people talk about. So, some Caribbean people, they tend to have this resentment towards the Trinidad that is actually um confident more confident than than other islands.
But again, the Trinys are more known to be loud and outspoken about their beautiful country.
They're proud of their food, their culture, their spices, their education system, their economy, their multicultural identity. And we saw that during IShowSpeed's visit. When IShowSpeed finally went to Jamaica, people talked and the Trinies were there outspoken talking about their country that their spices were better, you know.
There's such kind of debate. And of course it plays a major role also in making a tourist to decide where to visit.
So, when it comes to confidence, I can tell you Trinies are top-notch.
But again, that doesn't really sit well with other people around the Caribbean because we understand Caribbean consists of several other islands with different administrative systems, different education system, just different everything.
So, they really do love their beautiful country.
And of course, if by just being confident and outspoken about it, people will feel like you know, that's being too proud and you know, having this superiority complex.
You know, the interpretation somehow becomes uh the the opposite of these people of what are the the Trinies themselves think about. So, there's as you can see from these particular clips that we just attached here, there were so many opinions, different opinions.
And yeah, I can tell you that is it about this particular uh conflicts and I'm not really conflicting in a bad way, the confliction in the debate. And yeah, that happens that has happened in this particular uh that has happened between the Trinies and the Jam- the Bajans, you know. So, there is uh this three stereotype about uh Trinidadians that they are actually tied to old colonial uh systems.
Like, who had these more than who? Who controlled these? Who had political who I mean just going to the past and that aspect has kind of made them to be linked to colonial colonialism which many people don't really want it. But, again would that really mean that uh the Caribbeans or the Caribbean people fully hate the Trinies? I don't think so. You know, this competition is just like uh something normal. Not It's not like it's toxic, you know? Because even in your home, there is that aspect of competition among your siblings, among your family.
But, you see when you come out again uh sometimes and talk about these uh the weaknesses.
You know, they get to expose these insecurities that uh for instance, we are getting from uh the Trinies.
The opportunity, the visibility, the respect, and the recognition. And honestly, I can tell you that uh the Caribbean has always has struggled with uh regional unity. It's not like it has always been a peaceful uh island or region as much as everybody talks about the unity thing.
Nationalism is stronger.
But, again each of them want to protect uh their identity because you know, they have this belief that the lesser they are I mean the smaller they are the less visible or they become that they're they're fearing invisibility.
So, um when people talk about being proud of their culture I mean it's just a great thing at the end of the day.
So, I don't know what to think about this particular video. Probably could comment down below what you think about the this particular differences between the Trinidadians and the Jamaicans and the entire Caribbean island. Now, do you think that uh that differences really exist and why?
Why do you think so? So, thank you so much if you have tried the clip up to this point. I truly appreciate your presence. I'll see you in the next video.
