Vernon provides a sharp analysis of how media branding and nomenclature manipulate public anxiety more than actual biological threats. It is a compelling look at the intersection of epidemiology and social psychology.

A new MYSTERIOUS bacteriaAñadido:
Anybody else wondering why the hantavirus has gone so quiet? It's gone quiet, hasn't The hanta hanta is not coming for you, apparently. And I was uh hoping that that little uh ditty that I'd come up with, the hanta virus can't hurt you. The hanta I thought that uh that'd take off, but it's gone quiet, hasn't it? Not so much with the Ebola, however. Yes, they're they're still going on about the Ebola. Yeah, they're still doing that one.
And uh talking about the many deaths and and uh how that's going to continue to spread, but don't worry because the warp speed is on the way. And uh there's still little bits online and WHO still coming out to talk about the Ebola. But the hantavirus um gone real quiet. Gone real quiet. It's like uh I mentioned about the rats. I think people are less scared of rats perhaps than they are things like bats.
And it appears mosquitoes. Because well, look, just in the background there as well, right? There's other stuff uh on the boil. There's other stuff that could mean that warp speed needs to come in just in case Ebola doesn't scare enough people as well. With things like, you know, Ebola spreading all over the world wide.
Or there's this thing that they're now saying chikungunya I don't know. I ain't got it in front of me. Something like that. Chikungungun you good good good. Um something else.
This time it's the mozzies, the mosquitoes. We've heard a little bit about the mosquitoes, haven't we? A little bit like the ticks, just spreading everywhere. But uh will people be uh as afraid of the mozzies, the mosquitoes, as they are of the bats? Not so much of the rats. And then, of course, you've also got headlines like this of mysterious diseases, mysterious bacteria, mysterious stuff that hasn't even got a name, you guys.
Yeah?
I often say, you know, when you give something a name, you give it meaning, don't you, right? And therefore, when some somebody can name something, it means something you can get really afraid of it. But don't forget the unknown as part of all of that as well, right? People are very scared of the unknown as well. So, when there's mysterious stuff happening as well. I mean, look, the headlines, the media is still full of this stuff. It's almost like that this fear p o r n sells big.
And well, when it comes to the old solutions for it, all that's they tend to be big sellers as well. But it's a case of watch this space, guys.
But I am still surprised how quiet things have gone on the hantavirus.
>> Is the hantavirus coming for you? The hantavirus, he's coming for you, you dirty rat.
