The Bass Gang's arrangement of 'The Sound of Silence' demonstrates sophisticated musical techniques including counterpoint harmonies where background voices respond like call and response, strategic root note switching to create emotional tension and release, and smooth transitions between verses that maintain a traditional cathedral-like atmosphere while incorporating modern vocal techniques.

Vocalist Reacts To The Bass Gang 'THE SOUND OF SILENCE'Added:
What is going on YouTube? Welcome back to my channel. Shout out to the Kofi gang for being here, being involved, and being active. The bass gang have a new track on this Friday. And you guys know what time it is, man. Time to give some reaction to The Sound of Silence. You guys know this song. You guys know there's been so many ac capella covers of this song. And it's time for us to get the bass gang take on this song. And I can't wait to hear some bass and some beautiful harmonies and some carefully worked out arrangements for these guys.
and also a music video too. We get to enjoy three things. Let's check this out, guys. Like, comment, share, and subscribe. Let's go.
Nice.
Hello darkness, my old friend.
The beginning sounded very quarrel, very religious, very Catholic. It sounded very, you know, yeah, like a meditational kind of introduction. I I I like that. It's very traditional the way that they started. I love the black and white and the suits. This is great.
Hello darkness, my old friend.
>> Some strong chest notes there.
>> I've come to talk with you again because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping.
And the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence.
>> Oh.
Oh, everybody sounds good so far. I'm not going to lie. M one looks like a tech billionaire with a suit on. I I just love that. Like he looks very well presented and everything like that. I'm looking like a tech billionaire here.
Maybe in the future. Who knows?
>> In restless dreams, I walked alone.
Narrow streets of cobblestone.
The halo of the street lamp.
I turned my collar to the golden dam.
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light.
Let's split the night.
>> Do they have like a cello or a violin accompanying this? What's happening here?
>> Let's split the night and touch the sound of silence.
So smooth.
Wow. And in the naked light I saw and I saw 10,000 people maybe 10,000 people maybe people talking without speaking.
People hearing with us, people writing songs and voices never and no one disturb the sound of silence.
fool said I you do not know.
>> Oh, we switching again.
>> Silence like a cancer grow.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my world my silence drops f and echo in the world of silence. So good. This is so good.
Oh, and whispered in the sun.
>> Oh, silence.
Yes.
Probably the best the best thing they've done so far. I'm not going to lie. Probably the best thing they've done so far as the base gang is this track. Everything was on point. 100%. The reh harmonizations.
Everything was beautiful. Wow. The smooth transitions from one verse to the other. The land, the smooth landing, the transitions. Oh my goodness. Oh, and then you've got the counterpoint harmonies too in the background just like just responding to each other like calling response. That was everything was on point. Oh my goodness. This was nasty. This was nasty work, guys. This was nasty work.
I love that spiral imagery as well. It It reminds me of the James Bond intro thing. That That's what it reminds me of.
Hello darkness.
>> That that they choose that to be the the ruling note in the background just like it stays consistent that that becomes a consistent note which is not the melody.
That's what I found. They didn't stay consistent on the melody the whole time.
they were kind of like moving between minor chords and just switching what the root note would be like and they did that a lot especially at the climax of the song and that's what I love about this song too and they did that in Hallelujah just a little bit they did that in Hallelujah to where they switch what the root note would be and then they harmonize with that I think that's really clever so in this time we have two melodies going on they have the and then we have the one that Petus stands on which is the melody. Hello darkness.
Right. So Peter is singing the melody but that's not the root note. That's crazy.
>> I've come to talk with you again because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping.
and the vision.
>> The movement between Peter and Man is so uncanny. Like you didn't even realize if you were just listening to this without watching the video. You you probably would not tell until maybe later on a few seconds in to point out that this is actually M singing cuz that stop between Peter and the beginning of Min is so uncanny.
>> Like it's just it's like the same voice.
ly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping and the vision that was planted in my >> Oh, the note choices were brilliant. My brain still remains within the sound of silence.
>> Oh man, their chest notes are growing.
It's like every song they do, they've just improved every song they do. It's incredible. My camera is not even tolerating this song.
>> And then we have smog sneak into this like the dragon. You know, this is like Dragon Base. That That's Bobby. Bobby just comes in. He just breathes it. He just like >> narrow streets of cobblestone.
>> What the hell, man? I think Bobby should do voices for villains or voices for like monsters in animations and stuff like I think Bobby would be a great choice for a voice over for them.
Beneath the halo of the street lamp, I turn my color to the golden dam.
>> Loving the Laura harmonies, man with the bara da da da da da da da da. I turn my color to the cold when my eyes were stabbed.
>> Eyes were when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light.
>> So I think they introduce the string instruments in the background after Bobby comes in. So we have string instruments accompanying for the rest of the song, right? which was a great idea.
I like that.
>> Silence.
>> Damn.
That was some nasty work. That was some nasty work.
And in the ny.
>> So we've got a counterpoint harmonies beginning right now and then Peter taking the lead. I love this. This is very well structured traditional. And in the naked light all like it's very da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da like it's very rigidly structured in a traditional sense and that's what they were going for. That's why I got the whole Catholic vibe at the beginning. They're singing as though they are performing in a cathedral.
That's how that's the vibe is. It's brilliant. I love it cuz it's not contemporary at all. I don't feel any poppy contemporary vibe from this.
I love this is beautiful. Just the smooth transitions with it without like I love that people talking.
So that's usually what I would hear. A lot of people would sing especially with um with disturbed. That's how they would sing it, right? People talking without speaking. The influx would be without.
But they don't do that. There is a smooth word transition that whereas it's people talking without speaking. That's pretty much what it's saying. So, people talking without speaking, right? People talking without speaking. It's not without.
It's not like then you break the syllable of without. You make it a two-cllable word without, right? But that's they made it without speaking. So that without speaking and I love that >> people speaking without >> I love I love the harmony in the background man. It's just so it's so Mr. >> Yeah. So they have the people writing songs that voices never shared. Well, I don't know the lyrics. So they put that in the background. So we we don't really hear that much. So we don't hear kind of like the lead Peter going people writing songs, you know, like we don't we don't hear that. We we hear a people writing songs.
So they put that in the chorus without making that the lead. So there is no lead in this section here.
>> And I also love that listening like there's a small crescendo there. I I love that >> people.
>> So we hear songs that becomes more obvious to hear. So that changes the whole harmony. But they're singing the same thing. People writing songs, but they put that in the back in a chorus.
So it's not a a lead and then there's a harmony backing the lead, right? It's not that. It's more of it's a whole chorus. That's all of them are singing that. So they don't make the tenner the the focus voice for you to listen to.
The point is for you to listen to everybody in this section here. That's what I love about this.
>> The voices never disturb the sound of silence.
>> Let's switch it up again. Let's switch it up again. It was such a great idea to have the string accompanying this at this section. Anyway, I think I'm G. No, no, no. Okay, wait. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm going to spend almost an hour doing this.
I just realized I just realized I'm doing a whole deep dive deep deep deep diving into this. Like, they they they they got my ac capella geek on right now. Like, what?
No, they did a good job. They did a good job. Let me take it to the end cuz I I would break every single thing down and I would like do this in like 30 minutes.
I don't I don't want to do that. I don't want to do that. I don't want to do that. They they they they need to sweep me up. They need to sweep me. Hey, B gang, you guys need to sweep me up cuz I will do a whole 1 hour breakdown on this.
You almost got me. You almost got me.
You almost got me. All right. All right.
I'm only doing 20 minutes.
Oh, man. This was great. This was great.
I'm not going to lie. This was so good.
Ah, it's my favorite part. Let me play my favorite part.
and echo in the world of silence.
>> Hey, Tommy looks sick though. Tommy looks like a mob boss. I'm not going to lie. Tommy look like a mo B. Like, it's incredible. I can describe all their careers with the with the way they look in the suit as well. Tommy look like a mo boss. Absolutely.
There's no rearization.
>> So they the melody, right? They they that's pretty much it's a similar thing, but they change the feel of it. They change the emotion behind it by reharmonizing it to give you kind of like a then you have a >> Let me show you what I mean.
>> Yeah. and the people in pray.
That is the progression that we're looking at. So da da da da da da da da da. So that gives a much more uplifting emotional response. That's I think that's what we're looking at here.
That's what happened there and I love that. So rather than the Da da da da da da. That is the chord progression. Usually da da da da da da da. It ends up in the same section, but it it's just a different chord progression that gives you a different emotional response because it's usually like negative.
>> Yeah, they gave us kind of like an rather than a dark approach to this, it was more uplifting. That's why I love the eye expression from I my one too.
Like look at that. That I'm scared. I'm going to have nightmares now.
And then they give a like a minor chord at the end as a resolve. So it doesn't actually resolve to give you that full satisfaction. It kind of like Oh my god, this is a great arrangement.
I love it.
It's like I'm I'm listening to Ill Devil. I'm listening to one of these countercross um cross uh over performances where you have four opera singers harmonizing with one song. It's Yeah, it just reminds me of one of those.
>> Anyway, that's my 20 minutes. That's done. Hey, look.
That's done. That's that. That's too much. That's too much. All right. You guys were great. You guys were awesome.
The best thing the bass gang has done so far video-wise, vocalwise, arrangement wise, everything. Everything. This was 10 out of 10. Okay. Great, great work.
Much respect. I hope you guys enjoyed this this Friday. Have a good weekend and I'll see you guys next reaction video. Stay tuned. We are out. Peace.
