James Allan Says Kaspa Makes ICP Look Primitive? Jerry Banfield Responds!

>> I went to Internet Computer and Internet Computer introduced me to the idea of autonomous software and I was like, "Oh, this is amazing." Right? So, again, my concept of blockchain kept expanding with each chain I came across. Then the community kind of just went crazy. So, I jumped ship and went to Kaspa and at first I just saw Casper as a simple layer one for settlement to deploy your token. But then V progs, someone let me know that V progs were coming out. Read V prog yellow paper multiple times, and that's when I realized that the whole approach that Internet Computer is taking is flawed because the V progs are verifiable programs. They're smart contracts on Casper. They don't store state. Very different than Internet Computer's canisters, which has massive storage, right? Complete opposite of what Internet Computer is doing. So, I kept asking myself like, the V progs do not store state. Why are they doing it that way? But when you keep rereading the yellow paper, you're realizing the V prog execute the computation locally on their node, and they create their own proof, and they submit like a commitment. They basically do two things. They submit a commitment that shows the result of that computation. That's what needs to be stored on chain. The result, the changes of that state that resulted from that computation. And they do that through something called commitment, where they show like, okay, the state changed from point A to point B, and they also showed a proof. They don't need an outside ZK roll-up solution. So, there's no zero-knowledge roll-up solution that Casper's using. V progs, they're doing it themselves. So, they show their own proof that provides legitimacy to how the transaction was done. That basically the transaction was done correctly. You need proof that the transaction was done the way it was supposed to be done, and the V progs provide that proof, and the commitment shows the state changes. And when you have that history of all the state changes based on the result of the computation that can be proven, right? They're called anchors, you have a network that is stateful, even though the smart contracts themselves do not store state. It was clear to me that this was the correct approach, much more scalable, much more sophisticated. It was so obvious to me that this is the correct approach.
Casper basically out-engineered Internet Computer. It was so obvious to me and that, you know, I ended up sharing it to the internet computer community.
Clearly, they didn't take it well. They they spent the whole day yesterday bashing me.
>> So, after hands-on experience with both Kaspa and Internet Computer, City Escapes James Allen concluded Kaspa's architecture is far superior. Fast forward to July 2026, Jerry Banfield reacts with his long video basically giving the standard ICP ambassador spiel and false analysis on Kaspa.
>> Meanwhile, if you look at what Kaspa actually does, it does fast proof-of-work ordering, which is basically useless in today's environment. Maybe that would have been useful a decade ago. Fast proof-of-work ordering is useless in today's environment. Its block DAG architecture is way overhyped. All Kaspa nodes send payments, order transactions, settlement, and put some transactions through. It's legitimate technology, like it's it's not absolute zero. But, fast ordering is not the same as running a decentralized application. All it can determine is is basic transaction stuff.
It can't execute a social network, an AI agent, a database, a web application, a messaging platform, or general cloud logic.
>> So, Jerry admits Kaspa's block DAG gives fast proof-of-work ordering, but then buries it as just payments and UTXO stuff. Reality check, true proof-of-work plus parallel block incorporation at thousands of TPS with sub-second blocks is absolutely rare in crypto. Most chains sacrifice security or decentralize to fake it. That basic ordering is the rock-solid foundation for the procs. You can't anchor millions of ZK proofs daily without a high-throughput L1. That is not a bug.
That's the feature.
>> And then all it does is move the application off chain, which is what almost everything else in crypto does.
And James' argument that off-chain computation is better and that on-chain is is too expensive and not needed.
Absolutely ridiculous for the use case of crypto as the AI has laid out here.
On-chain computation really matters if you care about having your application secure and run properly, which in crypto and in other important infrastructure is very important. For Kaspa's quote base apps and Vprog style architecture, it orders the user's operation and then off-chain runtime interprets the operation. This is where the whole thing falls apart. As soon as you put stuff off the blockchain, the trust is gone.
You might as well just run all the stuff. Just run all of it in some centralized There There's no reason to deal with the Kaspa blockchain and then put the stuff off-chain where then you lose all the security and the verifiability of the blockchain. And this is where everyone is either completely clueless or incentivized to not look or blatantly dishonest. Most of the time people are just are not that that understanding. They haven't done that level of research. So, they don't understand how big of a deal this is.
Well, as soon as you off-chain stuff on the blockchain, you lose security, you lose verifiability, and you might as well make a centralized app if you don't have those things because it'd be cheaper and faster to make a centralized app instead of try and deal with the Kaspa blockchain putting things off-chain. The separate proof infrastructure generates evidence to computation. It's evidence. It's not a guarantee. It's a little bit of evidence. You have an executor performing the computation. There's evidence. It's not a guarantee. The proofs can be bashed and aggregated. The actual computation therefore depends on things outside the consensus including executors, provers, state databases, witness servers, proof aggregators, settlement operators, and reorganization handling. I mean, I might as well just put everything on Amazon if I'm going to deal with all this from an unknown group of people working with the Kaspa blockchain.
>> What got me to invest in Internet Computer is no longer valid thanks to the Casper V-Prague which basically shattered my whole world again, my whole paradigm again. But hey, I'm human. I'm still learning. I'm just sharing my journey with you. I'm not performing in front of you. I'm just sharing you my journey. Uh this is subject to change, right? Because the community can change and definitely can change. But for now, as I see it, I see ICP as a loss. Two, the thing that made me invest in an ICP, do they still exist? No, because Casper V-Prague showed me a much superior way of creating a smart contract layer that again, I'm sorry to say it, it makes ICP's technology look primitive.

>> The The technical reality is Casper's ordering transactions and then later verifying a proof produced by someone else. Utterly useless in 99.99% of scenarios. Utterly useless technology. Might as well run it on centralized tech or use ICP to build out what you really need. Viewer takeaway, ICP runs application. Casper verifies the receipt after an off-chain system runs it. Absolutely useless.
>> Jerry Banfield read the dogs, asked ChatGPT and Grok, and called it a research. No hands-on testing, no DAG metrics, no V-Prague prototypes. On the flip side, James Allen actually built on both ICP and Casper. Jerry Banfield hasn't. Yet he's downplayed what he hasn't built on.
