But, ultimately, what we did is we found out that he did have a varicocele after numerous rounds of IUI, even tried IVF. What we did is the microsurgical varicocelectomy, which is the gold standard. This requires a surgical microscope using a small incision. The procedure takes less than an hour. We're able to tie off all the abnormal veins, leaving the healthy artery and the lymphatics just to the side. Everything that's supposed to stay there, we leave there, just tying off those abnormal veins. And generally speaking, within 3 to 4 months, you're able to start having normal sperm. And this is a perfect example for this patient who were able to get healthy sperm, and ultimately, he was able to conceive naturally. So, if you are struggling with fertility as a male or as a couple, make sure the male is evaluated because it could be a something as simple as a varicocele.
