[00:00:00]One treatment technique we can use for overactive bladder symptoms, such as urinary urgency or frequency, is called TTNS. It's transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation. And the tibial nerve actually runs down by our ankle.

[00:00:19]I'll show you where. So, it's ends up running around this part of our ankle.

[00:00:28]And what's really cool is that this nerve actually has overlap up at our spine with the nerves that supply things like the bladder and nerves that supply things like the pelvic floor. So, I'm going to show you on my model where some of that overlap is.

[00:00:46]So, this is the back. We have our tailbone.

[00:00:50]This is the low part of our spine called the sacrum. And then if we go up, we have the rest of our back all the way up to our head. Right here on this part of the sacrum, we actually have some nerves that come off kind of like branches of a tree trunk. And so those branches course together or apart and create different nerves. One of them is the tibial nerve that goes down to the foot. The other are nerves that go to things like the bladder and the pelvic floor. So, when we apply a bit of a topical um slight electrical stimulation, so not like a zap you and you're electrocuted, but more like um kind of ants dancing on you. What it does is it can help to calm down some of that hypersensitivity or that increased urgency sensation of the bladder. It's a really cool treatment technique um and one that is quite successful for the vast majority of those that have some sort of overactive bladder type presentation. So, if you fall in that category and you are working with pelvic floor PT, ask them if maybe TTNS would be something that could be helpful as part of your home program.
