Stonemile Group submits lowest qualified bid for Wheeling Gateway Center project

[00:00:00]Officials say the company submitted a base bid of nearly 25.9 million for base bids 1 through 7. Five bids were publicly opened on April 16th. According to the CVB, the project will now move to its next steps with the Stonehill Group.

[00:00:15]And we are entering in what they call contract negotiations.

[00:00:19]Uh we are going to actually uh work specifically with this this construction company to build and design what we uh think we deserve in in in Wheeling. And uh so we're going to be working on that project and hopefully we'll have all of this completed by July 5th or rather June 15th. Other bids included Rycon Construction Incorporated at nearly $28.9 million and United Construction Company at more than 38 million. The project the lowest bid was uh 25 million uh 5 uh 900,000.

[00:00:56]Uh that's a number that that we had been considering.

[00:01:01]Uh it did obviously come in a little bit higher than we anticipated, but that's what contract negotiations are all about. The expected Gateway Center will become a major addition to downtown Wheeling aimed at boosting tourism, conventions, and economic development in the region.
