This breakdown over-intellectualizes basic market inflation as if it were a complex economic breakthrough. It’s a lot of jargon just to explain that one big paycheck inevitably leads to another.

The Seattle Seahawks Just Got BLASTED With NewsAdded:
What's going on everyone? Seahawks today is presented by PrizePicks. Download the PrizePicks app today and use code HMA when you play your first $5 lineup to receive $5 in lineups. I'm your host Will Ortner and on today's program, we're going to be talking about the Matt Stafford contract extension cuz it came through the pipeline late Thursday night. Want to talk about that. How it's going to impact Sam Darnold's contract extension. And then we're going to be talking about Jacoby Brissett because he's holding out right now in Arizona and honestly, I just think it's very funny. And it's going to positively impact the Seattle Seahawks. A lot of news about the quarterbacks in the NFC West so far. Adam Schefter was the one who I saw uh post about it first, which is why I do have him up on the screen right now. The Rams and NFL MVP Matthew Stafford reached a $55 million extension. Could end up getting to 60 million with incentives. So that means that Stafford's going to be uh under contract with the team this upcoming year and then the year after that, which is something that is important to kind of talk about. So essentially, he'd be on the team until he's about 40. Being 38 years old right now. Stafford did have uh at least statistically his best season that he's had in his career.
Although I think there are some years in Detroit that you could argue were even better for a Stafford. But it's important to note that he's going to be around in Los Angeles for at least a little bit longer. We'll talk about what that means, how that will impact the Seahawks and Sam Darnold, of course. But if you're part of the Naughty Gang, go down below in the comments section and spam Naughty Gang. What we're going to start doing here on the channel is when we are talking about our notifications being turned on, well, if you have yours on, we're going to give you a shout-out on the show. So spam that Naughty Gang.
Producer Suril's going to keep track and Producer Suril will make sure that we get a list five logo up on the screen shouting you out. And so if you don't get a shout-out in a video, uh @tomsorro on Twitter, you angrily DM him. Have fun.
When we look at Matt Stafford's stats uh throughout last season, obviously it makes sense why he was able to get an MVP award. I mean, the guy was freaking nails, threw a bunch of touchdowns, not really against us, but he was someone who had a lot of success against a lot of the lesser teams last season. Now, when we look at the last 4 years, I kind of thought that there would be a much bigger drop-off, but if you take out the 2022 year where he misses a lot of time, Matthew Stafford has pretty much performed as one of the top five at worst top eight quarterbacks in the National Football League. Obviously, there's a little bit to do there with him having success with Sean McVay, but it certainly feels like Stafford is going to continue to perform at a very high and very elite level in the National Football League. Now, what this contract extension means to me is that Matthew Stafford isn't going anywhere anytime soon, at least within the next 2 years, right? There were rumors when he accepted his MVP trophy that Stafford might potentially be walking away from the National Football League.
I think he believes that in LA they have an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. And I don't really blame him for thinking that. In my opinion, when you look at Matthew Stafford, this is a quality team. They got all the way to the NFC Championship game. They're a couple of plays away from going to a Super Bowl.
Now, they weren't better than the Seahawks, and I still don't think that they're going to be better than the Seahawks, but I get where Stafford gets his thought process from. I think it also lets us know that that Ty Simpson pick was really effing stupid. We thought it was dumb at the time because I don't know that Simpson was worth a 13th overall pick in the draft, let alone a draft that high when you have Matthew Stafford. Now, it might be a deal where the Rams say, "Hey, we're going to take him and then guess what?
Uh he'll take over for Matthew Stafford." But, I think they wasted a really high pick that they could have used somewhere else. At the end of the day, Seattle still knows how to beat LA.
And whether it's Matthew Stafford there, Tye Shelton, or anybody else, the Seahawks, they're going to be able to take care of business. And I have no worries about this team beating them even though Stafford is staying there.
Are you worried about Matthew Stafford playing for 2 more years? Let me know down below in the comment section. Type Y for yes, type N for no. Interested to see what your opinion is. In my opinion, I'm not worried because of that last thing that I just mentioned. Seattle knows how to beat Matthew Stafford. And frankly, I think that that game was a lot closer than it really should have been. If you ask me, that NFC Championship game, Seattle probably should have won that game by 10 points or more, especially if Woolen doesn't have his issue with his uh penalty that he ended up getting. So, I'm not worried about Matthew Stafford. We have more to talk about on today's program, but before I do, I need to let you know that today's show is made possible by SeatGeek.
When it's time to get out of the house, there's not many better options right now than a ball game. There are more than 70,000 events listed on SeatGeek including sports, concerts, festivals, and more. I was interested in looking at what it would cost to get into the Seahawks-Patriots game. So, I went over to SeatGeek and I searched up the Seattle Seahawks. Went in looking for green dots trying to find the best deal possible for myself. Found myself a deal right near the end zone, but also close enough to the 50-yard line where I was going to see most of the game. Really like the potential for those seats.
Whether it's a Seahawks game with a special lady friend or a Koe Wetzel concert with the boys, SeatGeek has your back. Each ticket is rated on a scale of 1 to 10, so you know you're getting a good deal. So, look for the green dots.
Green means good, red means bad. And of course, I have a code for you guys. You can use code chat10 for 10% off your next set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% off any tickets with the promo code chat10. Make sure you click the link in the description to download the app and have the code automatically added to your account, so you can use it later.
Thank you so very much to SeatGeek.
So, how does Stafford's contract end up impacting Sam Darnold? Because whenever a quarterback gets an upgrade in their deal, it will impact whoever is next in line to get their contract extension.
And well, Sam Darnold is certainly not in line to be the next player that gets a contract extension. He's going to be getting one very soon. So, anytime there is an increase in that number, I know that Sam Darnold and his agent are both fist-pumping going, "Yeah, yeah. Make your money." Because it's only going to lead to them making more money. Now, Darnold has 2 years left on his deal, like I mentioned already. So, we don't have to really worry about Darnold going anywhere anytime soon, right? He is going to be in Seattle for at least the next 2 years, and then they'll re-evaluate. But, it certainly does seem like John Schneider and the rest of that Seahawks front office, they're going to want to try and keep Darnold. When we look at his last four seasons, obviously the 2022 stats are not going to be very good for Sam. And there are going to be a lot of people that say, "Uh, I don't know that you could pay Sam Darnold. He has a lot of struggles in '22 and '23."
But, when you look at the '24 and the '25 seasons for Darnold, he is a quarterback that is playing at a very elite level in the National Football League. Ton of yards, ton of touchdowns, very high completion percentage.
Hopefully, we get the interception and fumble numbers under control. But, he is someone that is doing very well. And if he decides next year to play the exact same way that he did over the last 2 years, you are going to see Sam Darnold be able to command, I don't know if it's top dollar, but he's going to be able to command one of the top dollars in the National Football League. He is someone that certainly has had a lot of success, and he is someone that is going to be able to continue to really push forward. Now, when we look at Collins' rankings, he's not necessarily able to go ahead of anyone in particular in the top 10, but he's definitely someone that is in the conversation to be in the top 10, and that is directly where he should be.
Now, Colin might be a little bit more foolhardy, or at least more high on Darnold than most, because he has him ranked in his top 10 after the last 2 years, where we know Mina Kimes and Ben Solak, I'm sure we'll get into that more on uh this YouTube channel, they had him closer to 20, which I frankly disagree with. But, if you buy into the last 2 years, and Darnold has another year where he's on a similar page, I don't know if you say he necessarily wins a Super Bowl, if we're going to be conservative, but if we are being conservative, let's say that he throws for another year where he's right around 3,500 yards, throws for well over 25 touchdowns, probably around 10 interceptions, and gets the Seahawks to the playoffs, and they go on a halfway decent run. Well, then he is going to put himself into a position where he should be paid higher. Now, where does he fall on that highest paid number? I'm not exactly sure. Now, we look at where a lot of these guys are being paid at over the next couple of years, and you can tell there are a lot of guys that are on the top end of this market, right? And there are a lot of guys that have put themselves in a position to make millions and millions of dollars.
Now, would Sam Darnold be someone after 3 years of really good football, and at least one Super Bowl under his belt, be able to be in the conversation for making over $51 million over what Jalen Hurts and probably if he's going to be in the top 10, he'd have to make over what Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert are potentially making per year. Now, if that is what Sam Darnold ends up doing, he will end up making top 10 quarterback money in my opinion. What we've seen from Sam Darnold over the last couple of years is success.
And when you have a quarterback that is able to step into a position on a football team, and he is able to elevate that team, whether you love Darnold or you hate Darnold, by the way, he elevated the Seahawks compared to what Geno Smith was able to do with them.
Now, there are other factors in that, but just strictly looking at that offense, Sam Darnold brought you a Super Bowl.
Sam Darnold is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, and he has proven that he can do that in the National Football League. And if he is someone that hits the open market, there is going to be a demand for him that is going to exceed top 10 QB money.
Now, what will the Seahawks do? Will the Seahawks be able to jump in and make sure that Darnold gets paid uh before he ends up hitting that spot? Cuz Schneider has said he's going to wait for this year to go out. Well, if he decides to wait for this entire year to go out, and Sam Darnold ends up taking another gigantic leap forward or even just a small step forward, you're now going to have to start committing a lot more money to him. And then the question becomes, are the Seahawks willing to do that? Now, I don't know that the Seahawks wouldn't be willing to do it. I don't know that they would be. I think a lot of that depends on Jaylen Milroe and what other teams are willing to pay for Darnold. Is he bottom end of the top 10, or is he on the high end? But I think that Sam Darnold's going to get top 10 QB money the next time he hits the market. Let me know down below in the comment section if you agree or disagree with me. I also know that with Matthew Stafford, he's helping bump that top 10 number up. Interested to hear what your opinion is. Type agree if you agree.
Type disagree if you disagree. We got some more things to get into on today's show, but I got to let you know that today's show is also made possible by PrizePicks. I have a lineup for the football action going on later this year. Justin Herbert, more on his pass yards. I think that offense is going to be much improved in LA. That is why I believe that Justin Herbert will have more opportunities to pass the football.
Quentin Johnston, more on his receiving touchdowns. I believe that that offense is going to be much improved and that would potentially lead to Quentin Johnston getting more receptions. And if Quentin Johnston gets more receptions, that would lead to more opportunities for TDs. Lastly, I have Rashid Shaheed on my lineup. I've got the more on his receiving yards. Shaheed joined Seattle at the halfway point of last season. A full off season to work with Donald, I think will only benefit Shaheed. That's why I've got the more on his receiving yards. New user offer. Download the PrizePicks app today and use code HMA when you play your first $5 lineup to receive $50 in lineups. We're ending today's program with Jacoby Brissett cuz if you don't know, the guy who's supposed to be the starting QB in Arizona, well, he is holding out. He believes that his contract is not good enough and he deserves more money to play in Arizona. When we look at the last uh couple of seasons for Brissett, obviously did a lot better in '22 and in '25 because well, he was more of a bridge quarterback during those years as opposed to being a backup quarterback.
Now, when you look at a guy like Brissett, I think he's a quality backup quarterback in the National Football League, but he is certainly someone that I don't know should have the I don't think he should have the ability, in my opinion, to hold out. I don't think that he should have the ability to be saying, "I deserve more money since I'm going to be the starter." because the long-term plan is not for him to be the starter. I think if we were able to give everyone over there in that Cardinals organization truth serum. Now, we're not going to be able to do that, so they're going to say the right things. But, at some point Brissett will be replaced by a young QB. The question is, would it be a guy in the supplemental draft like Brandon Sorensen? Would it end up being someone else that gets taken in this next upcoming draft? I'm not so sure.
But, they did ask Michael LaFleur, the head coach there in Arizona, what he thought of Jacoby Brissett missing OTAs cuz he hasn't come to any workouts that were optional this entire off-season and he had this to say, "The hardest thing to do in this league is get used to the speed of the game and even for not just the rookie, but for second-year, third-year guy." And he's played a lot of football. He's done probably everything that we've done schematically. It's just a little bit of different verbage. So, LaFleur, he's been very complimentary of his quarterback, Brissett, saying, "Hey, it's optional stuff. He's been around the league. He knows how to pick up an offense. He's not here right now, but it's all going to be okay." Look, eventually a deal's going to get done.
Jacoby Brissett cannot afford to not play this year. But, when you don't have your starting quarterback in Arizona, makes life easier for the Seahawks. Not that the Cardinals are a worry at this point. They're kind of a joke of a franchise anyways, but I'll certainly say it does feel good, at least in my heart, and hopefully it does in your heart to know that one of our division rivals, uh they're really struggling right now. And I for one just think that's a shame.
