Part 77: The People Are Not the Government

The Vietnam War was a colonial conflict where the United States, the wealthiest and most powerful nation in history, made a maximum military effort with everything short of atomic bombs to defeat a nationalist revolutionary movement in a tiny peasant country and failed, producing the greatest anti-war movement the nation had ever experienced; this war exemplifies how the American people have historically been defined by their opposition to the government, as demonstrated by the widespread protests from every demographic except politicians, and reveals the pattern of American colonization that has existed for 250 years, where the U.S. sought to do to Indochina what it did to Native Americans, Mexicans, Filipinos, and continues to do in Gaza and Lebanon.
