If a child has used aggression, screaming, avoidance, and control for years, that pathway becomes a highway and the brain expects that behavior to work. So, when parents, teachers, and therapists finally start holding boundaries, implementing consequences, and staying consistent, the new pathway is weak at first. The old pathway is still stronger.
