Hello, I'm John McNamara, IBM Master Inventor from the IBM Hursley Laboratories, and I've been involved in the University of Sheffield's computer science school for a number of years.

A lot of that is based around learning how to learn, solving problems, and using innovative methods. I think that's critical. And also as well, students get access to industry mentors.

[00:00:37]They're presented with real-world problems that trying to apply and hone their craft to. So, it's a wonderful mixture of academic learning, but also industry practical experience as well.

[00:00:49]For me, GenAI is all about amplifying and scaling the quality and ability of the practitioner. And if you don't have that good foundational computer science knowledge and experience, what you're going to be scaling is probably going to be substandard. So, I think in terms of GenAI, the computer science degree from University of Sheffield is critical because you've got to have those skills and practical experience in order for GenAI to scale that quality that you bring to industry.
