What is nightlife like in rural China? πAdded:
What is night life like in rural China?
>> Hello everyone. I'm Mila and I'm 59 years old. I live in a rural village in northern China.
Today, I'd like to show you what night life is like in rural China. There's a park not far from my house. Every evening after everyone has finished dinner, people naturally gather there.
After a busy day, the park becomes a place for everyone to relax and unwind.
Seeing so many people exercising inspired me, so I decided to give it a try.
Oh my god, this is really heavy. I didn't think this exercise was for me.
So, I had to switch to something easier.
Just a few minutes into my workout, a little kid came over and challenged me to a contest to see who could swing higher.
Obviously, I lost, but I was happy. It felt as though the child's innocent joy had been passed on to me.
Of course, some were exercising seriously while others were just having fun.
Watching them enjoy themselves so much lifts your spirits, too.
After doing some light exercise, I came across a group of brisk walkers and decided to join them.
In China, people call them walking groups or rising walking teams.
These groups are very common in rural China without the expensive equipment found in gyms.
These groups are mostly made up of middle-aged and elderly people, all local villagers.
They walked together at a set time every day just brisk walking.
>> Gradually they started wearing matching outfits and while walking they play music through speakers.
People move to the rhythm of the music and if passers by are interested they can join in. That's how the group keeps growing just like me.
Some see it as exercise, but for many, what truly matters is the sense of companionship.
Ordinary days become much livelier because of these simple gatherings.
While some enjoy exercise, others prefer to sit quietly together and chat.
They discuss family matters and share the little details of their day.
There are no particularly important topics, yet they can always talk for a long time.
For many, these gatherings have long been the most relaxing moments in their lives.
Perhaps the warmest relationships between people don't need to be lively.
It's enough that someone is willing to sit with you for a while and have a conversation.
If you're thirsty, you'll find vending machines like this all over the park, so you can buy water anytime. In China, mobile payments are extremely common.
Simply scan a QR code to handle all your daily needs.
There's a long walkway in the middle of the lake that looks absolutely stunning under the lights.
The lake is teeming with fish and you can even feed them.
Walking along the walkway over the lake, a gentle breeze blows in from all sides, carrying a hint of coolness that feels exceptionally refreshing, making it the perfect spot for a stroll.
Walking through the corridor in the middle of the lake, you'll encounter one of the most breathtaking sights of the Chinese night, squirre dancing.
It's no exaggeration to call it China's largest group activity.
>> All it takes is an open space and a portable speaker and anywhere can become a stage.
>> Dozens or even hundreds of people form neat squares dancing freely to the beat.
Even twoyear-old children wobble along to the rhythm, their movements so innocent and adorable that you can't help but smile.
If you love singing or enjoy practicing songs, you can bring your own equipment and sing your heart out anytime, anywhere in the park.
with her.
>> There are also many food stalls right next to the park. If you feel a bit hungry after exercising in the park, you can grab a snack here to recharge your energy.
It's a bit hot today, so after walking around, I decided to buy a cold drink, the Oreo flavor.
Taking a sip on a summer day makes you feel much more refreshed.
If you're visiting with children, you can take a short break here when you get tired from walking.
There's also a fishing stall nearby, and many childrens sit by the water quietly playing for hours.
For just 15 yen, about $220, you can take the fish you catch home.
For many kids, this is a simple yet joyful experience.
However, it's getting late now and the owner has already started packing up.
After exploring the entire park, it's time to head home and rest.
