This video documents the conflict between Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Makola Market women traders, where the mayor ordered their eviction without providing alternative trading spaces, sparking protests and highlighting the tension between urban development goals and the livelihood rights of informal sector workers who have been trading in the area for decades.

Makola Women in Tears after being Sacked from the Market.Added:
Tell as it stands right now, there's heat, proper heat, proper fire going down right Now at the ma market yes cuz our mother said look we not understand as for this one there we not understand so apparently the a mayor has asked them that they should move from where they are right now and I'm they should basically just move they not giving them anywhere to be they should just move and mothers are also saying that look we've heard this before you people said this the first time second time for now de we are not going anywhere I have the fold just here for you. My name is Yam and this is Headless Reactions.
Now, if you are online, you will see videos of the officials. They've been um telling people to move from this place.
Don't sell here. What are you doing here? We like giving warnings, season items. They said that Acra mayor said they should do it. Acra Mayor said that he should tell the people to move.
According to them, warnings have been given. They've sent out several warnings that guys please move from this place first time, second time, third time. So now no more warnings. Now it's just action. There's if you are at the um Acra Mall side, you will see that they've started seizing people's items from that side. Those that are selling on the pavement, yes, those that are selling on the streets, all those people, they started seizing their things and then telling them that they should move. They don't want to see them there again. Don't come back again. When they take your things, don't come back again.
Hello.
Which one?
And now when you go to Mola markets where the real problem is, see our mothers are upset.
They are very angry, very angry. There are several videos of them expressing how they feel about what is going on right now because it doesn't make sense to them. So when you take um a portion let's say there's this place 31st um December we have A and B that side they've asked all of them there to move they've told them that look don't be there everybody there should move ASAP guys it's not funny it's not funny they've asked them to move and then now the problem is not like you asking me to move our mothers are saying that okay we should move and go where you are asking me to move cool no problem but where am I moving to where am I going where am I going that's what they don't understand cuz you are not giving them an alternative that okay when you move we are moving you people to this side do you understand and the mothers are saying that look right now that you are moving me from this place it's also you shutting down my business because immediately I move that is it I'm not going to sell anymore cuz where am I going to pack my things and sell my customers know that this is my point. So now if you move me like if you sack me from this place where am I going to sell?
20 years.
PRESIDENT Another angle is that from an interview with one of the manders, she was explaining that you people you moved us from Rollins Park all in the name of we are coming to fix the place. Nothing was done there.
Caration, nothing was done there.
Circle, nothing was done there. So it's like move, we break the place and then you leave it there. That's what mommy was saying. Mhm. Move, break, nothing happens. Move, break, nothing happens.
So they are saying that with this one, I'm not the one saying it.
The mother said unless you people come and remove them physically from there, they will not go anywhere. So now a fence was created, right? They did a fence around certain areas that don't cross this. Oh sh >> I didn't know that our mothers were strong like that though.
breakages and damages.
>> Come and see the way our mothers were carrying chairs, breaking the fence, pushing the wood down and hey Yeah.
Hallelujah.
Mommy, when you go home, we saw what you were doing at the market. We saw it.
Now the mothers are saying that they are familiar with the game that these people are playing and you you are trying to suck her so you started turning off the lights there and it's not even like ECG light out according to one of them and then she said that they intentionally they deliberately cut their powers. Yes.
So they've cut the line so they don't have light and then there was this man explaining. So in the video he was showing us that oh this and this and this thing is intentional. You can clearly see that somebody deliberately came to cut it all in the name of leave and you don't want to leave but they said like like if you like cut the we are staying there no no but I don't know the person Maybe that's why I can't tell.
But notable one.
Yes.
We are not going anywhere. One lady was expressing how she has been there for over 40 years. She said that's what she has used. Yeah. She has used to take care of all her children. They are all like doing well for themselves and everything. She's going to be there. She said she's going to be there till and there's nothing any of you can do about it. That's what mommy said.
Now another lady is also saying she's sending a message to the Acra mayor. She said that she she sold with the Acra Mayor's mother at Makola market. Yes, they used to sell together and that's what the mother has used to take care of Acra Mayor. So if now he wants to suck them, now that he has become somebody, he doesn't respect them anymore and he wants to suck them so that they will not have what to feed, then God will judge him.
She said that she used to see him and then she'll come and pass with he will come and pass with his some sauce. I mean I don't know anything about it. It's the mother that was saying it. She come and pass with some sauce be today. He's he's somebody. So he wants to take her food away from her.
She will not allow it. She will not permit it.
This is not how they expect the government to treat them after they have also voted for them to come in power.
This is not what they were promised. One lady was even expressing how people came there when during the campaign. They promised them a good life. They promised them that like some of these things won't happen to them. They promised them that oh when you vote for us we will make sure that like you are kept here according to the lady she's very disappointed.
EVERYONE FROM HE'S very disappointed and that even if you want to move them now this is their main stress. This is where they are focusing on. They said even if you want to move us can you give us a place to be so that even if we are moving from this place we know that right after moving here then we are going here.
Some also claimed that they were not given any prior notice before they realized their things are being taken from them.
The things are being broken down here and they don't appreciate it. They they are not being they are not being treated fairly.
Now this has sparked conversation on the internet. Everybody is talking. People are expressing how they feel. People are saying that oh some people are saying it's fair. Some people are saying it's not fair. I'm going to read a couple of comments for you and you decide like you can also share your comments in the comment section so that yes now this is what Mr. Law is saying. I understand their fear but this is why progress feels impossible. We want change yet we resist the process that leads to it. If we do not balance compassion and structure we will keep going in circles.
Answer answer.
Someone is also saying why don't we like development in this country? Why do we resist a good thing?
Now pops is saying only force will get them in check. Even though they run most of our lives with their informal sector, they must be in the right place for mother Ghana to be clean and better. H okay wait. So all market women in Ghana are widows and ch this so all market women in Ghana are widows and singlehandedly taking care of their children or it's just a format they use. Now as you can see some people understand what's going on. Some are saying that this is change. Change is is difficult. Sometimes it's it doesn't happen how you would want it but then gradually it be like it's good like for the betterment OF EVERYBODY BASICALLY.
WHILST others are also saying that it is not fair. It is not fair. These are people who are trying like this is how they this is how they eat. If they don't come to the market, they will not eat.
So if you want to move them from their position, from their zone, their area, and then tell them that, oh, don't come here again without giving them a place to be. That's you also saying that no work for them.
You know, when you think about it, everybody's side makes sense. You understand the market women at a point too. You understand where the officials, the government officials are also coming from. Let me know what you think in the comment section. Tell us, tell us how you feel about this whole situation.
