Why Are Americans Leaving for the Philippines? (It's Not Just Money)

[00:00:02]Welcome back to the channel. Appreciate you all tuning in. So, in today's video I want to discuss this idea that how many Americans are going to be moving to the Philippines in the future, right? And what kind of effects is that going to have on the Philippines culture? And why are Americans moving to the Philippines? We've heard videos like this before. I've made videos like this before. I think it's a little bit more nuanced. It's a little bit more subtle than simply geoarbitrage and saving money. So, I'm going to I want to talk a little bit about some of the other factors. But, before we get into that Uh-huh. [laughter] Anyway, so traditionally we've always thought that it's simply like, you know, Americans move out here to save money. And I don't think moving to a developing country is necessarily the best idea just to save money, right? Because when you're coming with that kind of Western American consumer mindset that you've lived in your whole life up until age 60, 70, or whatever, you're not really prepared for the uh I don't know the the the differences in quality of material and the amenities cuz they are quite different, right?

[00:01:11]Uh I I personally think like in the West we overrate like the quality of life cuz it's always material-based, right? Cuz you always hear things about infrastructure and quality materials and housing and I don't know. It's just like it's kind of overrated, I think. That's just my opinion.

[00:01:30]But, I don't really think it affects the quality of life too much. Although, I do admit like sitting in this house, I do enjoy the fact that we have this like really nice home theater system, right?

[00:01:40]And that I guess that's kind of materialistic.

[00:01:43]But, anyway.

[00:01:45]So, yeah. Why are Americans coming out?

[00:01:47]It's It's geoarbitrage and then obviously for women, men come out here to like look for women, right? Like a wife and a girlfriend and all that.

[00:01:56]Pretty normal stuff.

[00:01:58]However, I think there's a deeper shift going on in the culture. I I think the culture itself is really struggling and really broken, right?

[00:02:08]Because you know, Americans work too much, they kind of spend too much, and they just keep doing it.

[00:02:16]And it's kind of this endless psychotic cycle that people get stuck in.

[00:02:22]And you know, a lot of men do kind of get married for financial reasons sometimes, and America has like a really high divorce rate.

[00:02:30]And yeah, I mean, like the dating scene after 30, if unless you're like some celebrity or multi-millionaire, it's really difficult, man. And you know, it's kind of a complicated relationship because a lot of people think that men come out here to exploit women, to take advantage of poverty, and blah blah blah.

[00:02:53]So, you know, these are very complicated conversations, but the point is is that I think what we're seeing in general is more and more Americans are going to be going out to this country.

[00:03:05]And what kind of effects is that going to have on this country in the Philippines culture, right? Will the Filipinos be so welcoming as they were before? Cuz traditionally, the Filipinos are always very hospitable and welcoming. You hear about how much they love Americans, and I just wonder if some of that sentiment will change over time. I wonder if some of it's changing right now.

[00:03:29]It's hard to tell. I'm kind of like in this little town here, this little province, and there's literally probably I don't know. I I've only counted like five foreigners here.

[00:03:41]So, there's not too many of us here in this particular place, but they're going to other places like, you know, the hotspots like Angeles City, Dumaguete, Manila, these other places.

[00:03:51]So, I just And I I you know, I've been to some of those places and I do feel like there is like a different vibe like in Dumaguete when I'm in the restaurants and dealing with like the local Filipino staff. Like I get the sense like they're kind of used to dealing with a lot of really entitled obnoxious foreigners. And so I felt like the vibe there was like a little bit different, but it wasn't so much like it was a different It wasn't like the culture was different. It's like they're reacting to us, right?

[00:04:25]So, I'm just curious how this is going to affect this country overall when you start seeing like millions of Americans here.

[00:04:35]>> [laughter] >> Because I mean, the Filipinos in general when you talk to like I talked to them on the channel and everybody's like, "Yeah, we welcome foreigners with open arms and we love them. We encourage you know, we want to increase our GDP and we love foreigners. We love Americans."

[00:04:53]But that could change.

[00:04:55]Because I don't think the Philippines culture has really had like a heavy dosage of this massive influx of Americans.

[00:05:03]Because, you know, I know my people so to speak. Oh, there's a fly.

[00:05:08]And I know how my people are.

[00:05:10]You know, when we get in big groups.

[00:05:14]>> [laughter] >> So, I just I wonder if some of that will change. Zach, do you think it'll change?

[00:05:20]But anyway, yeah, man. The the the culture is struggling in America, dude. And we're we're so individualistic there. We we work so hard and it's always like, "Yeah, let's just work and get married."

[00:05:35]And And And they end up in these bad marriages and you got this high divorce rate and everybody's in debt.

[00:05:41]Like they're they're living this great lifestyle and it's It's material based, right? I mean, where's the family?

[00:05:48]You know, where's the time to spend with the kids? Like this guy. There's What are you doing?

[00:05:53]What are you doing?

[00:05:54]>> I'm also dirty.

[00:05:55]>> Yeah, you're good. Yeah, I know. I'm also dirty.

[00:05:58]Are you Are you exercising on the table?

[00:06:01]>> Yes.

[00:06:01]>> All right. Hey, mom's home.

[00:06:04]>> My mom.

[00:06:04]>> Hey, but listen.

[00:06:06]There's going to be more Americans coming here, so you guys you might have to rethink some of this.

[00:06:11]And you know, with the influx like we've seen so many vlogs, all right? So, you got this whole thing of digital colonialism. You have this You have this massive advertisement with millions and millions of people watching these vlogs and it's like it's no longer really like the best kept secret in town, right? Like I mean, a lot of people probably know about the Philippines now and obviously a lot more people are moving here. So, then there's the question of blogging ethics and you know, what kind of vloggers are people watching? Are they just promoting sex tourism? Are they just promoting cheap living? Are they really accurately showing the culture, a realistic view, the good, the bad? Because you get the extremity in the developing world, right? It can be beautiful here. It can be heaven, but it can also be hell.

[00:07:00]Isn't that right, mom?

[00:07:03]Hold on, I got to let her in.

[00:07:06]All right. Let's look at those major factors again, okay? We got geo arbitrage. We got women. We got digital colonialism.

[00:07:14]And we got a broken American culture.

[00:07:17]Now, I don't think it's broken beyond repair. It's just I've sort of decided to jump out of the game at this point in life. Nothing wrong with America. Love America. Blah, blah, blah. Land of opportunity. Make a bunch of money. It's really hard to get on there, okay? The middle class is being scammed.

[00:07:32]Everybody's stressed out. Everybody's irritated. Well, not everybody, but I mean, I'm kind of exaggerating, but you get the point, man. It's hard. It's hard to live in America. So, if you can, you know, work half the year and come out here and live like a king, I mean, that's great, too, right?

[00:07:50]Isn't that right?

[00:07:54]Live like a king.

[00:07:55]>> [laughter] >> But, like who's living like a king off $1,500 a month or 2,000? But, again, it's back to the money, right? Don't move out here just to save money because you're not going to like it. That's what I tell Americans. Don't move to the Philippines simply to save money. Will you save money? Yeah, probably. Well, depending on what you do. Some guys lose their mind and spend all sorts of money out here, and they kind of just lose it because they get easily manipulated by these hot women, and believe me, there's many hot women out here.

[00:08:25]And you can get wrapped up in that. And these women don't play around.

[00:08:30]So, you got to be careful, men.

[00:08:32]Okay?

[00:08:34]This video kind of went in different directions, but Yeah, I mean, digital colonialism.

[00:08:43]I mean, you see it, man. Like the the the there's there's a the influx is coming.

[00:08:48]And there's a big push in the algorithm to promote the Philippines. And like all these vloggers, we talk about it, and we get traction, and then it's like Philippines, Philippines. And then suddenly like every vlogger's like the spokesperson to like invite in every foreigner on Earth to the Philippines.

[00:09:05]It's it's amazing.

[00:09:06]It's just so weird.

[00:09:08]But, I kind of enjoy it. I I I kind of keep a distance, too, as a vlogger myself. I I kind of have to for my own mental health reasons. I can't like watch a lot of vloggers all the time. I got to like take them in dosages, but But, anyway, yeah, man, a lot of good information out there. And then like a lot of good vloggers, good information.

[00:09:26]But, where's this all going, man?

[00:09:29]>> [laughter] >> Like it's it's just How many Americans are going to come here?

[00:09:36]You know?

[00:09:37]Like I said, I can count five in this town and nobody really knows specifically where I live. I'm trying to keep it that way, but uh it is what it is.

[00:09:48]But yeah, guys, just to wrap it up, save money, geo arbitrage, find a new wife, build a small house. I'm sending out an SOS to all of our Filipino viewers to let them know the Americans are coming. The Americans are coming to your country. There's going to be millions trying to come. Save yourself.
