A burn address is a special Bitcoin address where the private keys either do not exist or are mathematically impossible to calculate, making any funds sent to it permanently inaccessible and effectively destroyed. In this case, $8.2 million worth of Bitcoin (107 BTC) was intentionally sent to such an address, demonstrating the irreversible nature of transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain. This action represents one of the most extreme forms of asset disposal in the cryptocurrency space, as once funds are sent to a burn address, they can never be recovered or accessed by anyone, including the original owner.

WTF? Someone Actually Burned Their Bitcoin On PurposeAdded:
$8.2 million worth of Bitcoin sent to a burn address. 107 Bitcoin gone forever.
>> It feels like once every few months we have a story about either super high fees or burn or whatever. This is one that's on purpose.
>> What your bank account's frozen starter pack like the one pager I referenced on Monday. And it was just, you know, a couple things you have to do to to get sovereign.
>> People have been worried about GitHub.
It's owned by Microsoft now and like, you know, potential censorship and all that kind of stuff there.
Let's see what's actually going on here.
So, how do we know that it's gone? Uh, well, there are Bitcoin addresses that are just burn addresses, meaning that the private keys uh do not exist or mathematically could not have been calculated or very unlikely at least infantessimal chance that they were. Uh, but $8.2 2 million worth of Bitcoin sent to a burn address. 107 Bitcoin gone forever. So, uh yeah, you can see the address 11111.
So, it's like nobody would have uh uh randomly >> control that one. I threw a 100 dice. I didn't get that one.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Like it's a it's a valid address. Um but yeah, the chances of somebody actually controlling those keys are basically zero. So, uh I don't know.
I don't know. Like are we are we going to um kind of uh pontificate on what might have happened here? Like was this you don't >> people people mess this kind of stuff up all the time? Like it feels like once every few months we have a story about either super high fees or burn or whatever, but this is one that's on purpose, right?
>> Yeah. Well, yeah. Look at look at the balance. The balance is 807 coins. So people send coins to burn addresses sometimes. So, >> I don't know. I don't know like why somebody >> I'm sorry. Have you guys never pissed off a woman before? I'm sure a few of them know how to use Bitcoin.
>> I can't wait for your wife.
>> She unplugged my [ __ ] Nintendo and she burnt my Bitcoin, >> man. I I don't know. I don't know.
>> Fair enough.
>> Love to see it. Well, uh, on on the less depressing side of things, uh, we've been talking a lot about internet censorship and, uh, there's something really awesome that just dropped here.
NosterVPN.
We were talking about it, I believe, a little bit before, uh, but, um, you can think of it kind of like Tail Scale.
This allows you to, uh, have a secure connection between you and your devices regardless of not being on the same network. Um, and so with Tailscale, you're required to log in with an account like a like a Google account or a few other options. So you have to use a third party to access it. And so Marty Mali, the third person ever to use Bitcoin, uh, he was annoyed by this and so he was like, well, we've got an open network uh, that is censorship resistant known as Noster. So he built uh, a VPN service that is called NosterVPN. So, you use the Nostra network. Um, and it is now not only available for your phone, uh, for your computer, but it's also available on the Umbrell app store.
So, if you're running like a Bitcoin node or just like self-hosting a bunch of your data and files and everything, you can also run Nostravpn and uh, then you can link your devices and then you can access it from anywhere. So like this potentially well it does replace something like tail scale where you got to use a Google account or whatever uh to use it. I think it's awesome. The other cool thing about it is um people have been worried about GitHub and it's owned by uh it's owned by Microsoft now and like you know potential censorship and all that kind of stuff there. Um the repository where this code this opensource application where the code for it is hosted is not GitHub though you can find it on GitHub. It's actually also hosted on Noster. This is iris.to or git.iris.to. So the actual source code is on Noster and then there's a mirror on GitHub. So if you want to use GitHub you can but the main repository is here on on Noster which is incredible. So shout out to open like Marty. What a legend. My goodness.
>> Like what an incredible guy.
>> Can you imagine being that much of a stud?
>> Literally Joey certainly can to my >> park episode. I'm the closest I'm the closest the show can get to that.
>> Sure you are Joey. That's cute. Walking around man.
>> This is the stuff that I absolutely love. Right. This is the sort of thing I absolutely love. Like I think the least interesting aspect of Noster although very interesting is the social media aspect of it. Right. Like the Nostra wallet connect. We've got white noise that they're working on in terms of communication. I think you could you you can go and get the coordinators, but thinking about using this for like coin joint coordination like having a decentralized basically permanent communication method that no one can take down. This is the [ __ ] that I love to see. And yes, go go play on NAS or the social media side as well too. But this [ __ ] I think is what's really really powerful.
>> This is why the um 100% Nathan this is why that we were talking about the Bitcoin or the Bitcast starter pack uh the other day, right? And we were talking about sovereign sessions and and you know what's coming here in August, right? Sure could.
>> Yeah. I mean like and I it's funny because I I think of like what your bank accounts frozen starter pack like the one pager I referenced on Monday. Uh and it was just you know a couple things you have to do to to get sovereign and that these are just like initial steps right but like this is part of that too because it's what's easy to do is easy not to do and when things are you know all quiet in the western front and there's not a lot going on that's the time you build right the bare markets and you get yourself set up. That's why I mentioned this earlier of like build your fediment like get your citadel like prepare now because when [ __ ] it's the fan which we know it will at some point whether it's five years from now you don't want to be sitting there looking around like oh [ __ ] should have should have done something and because that's that's the time to do it. So all this stuff it's just if the more people that can do this more bitcoiners that can set all these things up now be that control center be that the head of the fetty men be that the person that's prepared so that way the people around you the local people that you know your friends family whatever then then it's game on and you're ready to go. So, I I think this this could not be more important just going forward because it's easy at the moment here in America. Shit's coming down the pike in Canada, but it's like you still have time, but do it. Do it now. Do it this year and and because things are only going to get crazier.
>> If you're in the UK, it's already too late.
>> Well, damn.
>> So, you know, probably.
>> Yeah.
>> I wanted to uh I did want to mention one other thing just in the realm of self-hosting. And so, like again, right now I'm in heavy prep mode for sovereign sessions for August. And so I'm just trying to get out as many tutorials and experiment and and learn like all this AI stuff that I'm diving into. It feels very reminiscent of my first foray into Bitcoin where I'm like, "What in the hell am I doing?" And then every time you figure out something, it's like, "Oh my god, it worked." Yes. And so like >> I'm diving into it. Um the the computer that I'm on right now is like not a a you know, >> show us your new laptop.
>> Oh my god. This is the only look you'll get into right now if you're a listener viewer stupid [ __ ] Mac we hear all about. Oh my god. Okay.
>> Joy's like I'm on a Linux machine.
>> Oh my god. I got a Windows I'm like a Windows guy. I hate to say it but uh >> Oh dude, have Len set you up. Come on now.
>> Oh my god.
>> I'm not doing it. No, I just so I'm just learning about like, you know, self-hosting models and so like the the laptop that I'm on right now is not like super fast or it's it's decent, but it's not super fast. But I've been kind of diving into using LM Studio to just download different models and test them and you have your local chat and everything. But you can do things like uh pull it into um a link up on your on in your browser. So you have like your chat interface with it and you can link it and use it on any device in your local network. So on any other computer just through the browser. Um this is a a browser plugin uh that is called page assist. Uh but the cool thing is here I only have like two different models on this machine because it's not as as uh highowered. And then I've got a better Mac in the other room that's open right now. Well, this thing is linked to it.
So I've got all of these larger models that I can link. and then use locally on this machine. And the cool thing too is that I can actually use this wherever I go even if the model is sitting on my laptop at home. Previously through tail scale which required like a Google login but now that uh Marty has dropped uh now that Marty has dropped uh his his Nostravpn I can use that without requiring a Google login. So I can access all this [ __ ] from anywhere. So, like the amount of stuff, >> wow, >> that is going on right now is just it's it's blowing my mind and I'm I'm so stoked. And of course, it would be a Bitcoiner that would be like, you know what, I you know, [ __ ] Google and make something through Noster. And it's no surprise that some a Bitcoiner made Noster. And so, it's just like the the people that want to be self- sovereign are building the tools to make it possible. And I'm super stoked to be able to to dive into all of that. So, uh, I'll >> Sovereign Sessions.
>> Exactly.
>> You know, you know, it's interesting you, so you you put that together yourself, but like if you look at people often say that the guys who are running like local models, you know, this sort of like sovereign uh hyper worried all the time, you know, set of technology or you're, you know, running a sovereign garden or whatever. They always say like, "Well, you're not really you're you're warning too much. Things are not going to get that bad." But you know what? A lot of the stuff you just mentioned there, Anthropic is trying to do with Claude and they haven't done it that well. Like the dispatch thing, right? Like you want to run something from your phone on a bigger computer and not have to be in front of that machine all the time. That's a nice feature. And that's something that if you're hosting it yourself, adds another layer of sovereignty and protection from all this other nonsense we're seeing all over the world at the same time. I I love this, man. I think it's going to be great. I would I don't know enough about it to tell you or recommend it, but I think if people in the chat want to look at like a different um AI pipeline or LLM pipeline, Comfy UI is one that is super popular, very difficult to use, but I'm pretty sure this is like the sort of halfopens standard for local LLM modeling. I don't know enough about it to really like give advice on how to get started, but I know you need a machine with a lot of horsepower, which you have. And uh, you know, I think if anyone could do it, Ben, it's it's probably you. It's probably you.

>> Walker, you Walker's waving his hand.
Hold on.
>> Very quickly, it's worth mentioning that uh watch what and I know all of us have been tracking this in all of our shows.
We've mentioned in this show sincerely uh this there's no joke here, guys. I know you guys are always ready for a Walker joke, but I don't have one here.
Sincerely, you should be watching very closely what all of these big AI companies are doing because they all want to increase AI regulation. It's why Sam Alman is in front of Congress saying, you know, we just want you to regulate us more. We just need clear rules of the road. It's the same thing as what Brian Armstrong does with the we just we want regulation, guys. We want Why do they want regulation? They want regulation because regulation increases their regulatory mode because they have the [ __ ] funding to pay for the massive team of lawyers to be able to make sure they skirt all those regulations and they help write the regulations and it all works perfectly well for them.
And most importantly, no crazy upstart companies are able to, you know, sneak in and and and, you know, dive through their moat and get on the other side and raid raid the, you know, raid the castle and slaughter them all. They will come for open-source self-hosted models next because it will be deemed as dangerous.
It will be deemed that we can't possib I mean, that'd be so dangerous if somebody could just run their own model and they could just I mean, they could just ask how to build a build a boom. I I don't know if I can say that on YouTube or whatever.
>> Probably not.
>> But but this this is what they are going to do. The first step is we we need we need more responsible AI policy. We need to have a a coordinated framework for how we deal with the threats of AI. And we as anthropic and and open AI, we of course are so concerned about this senators and Congress peoples, non-binaries, and we need to make sure that we take this seriously.
watch. They will come for your open-source self-hosted model next. You should fight them at every turn. Get things. It is better to uh to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
>> Yeah.
>> Quoting Adam Sandler from Jack and Jill, a hilarious movie.
>> Very, very classic. But Walker, I I completely agree because that was the thing that was sticking out in my mind was the idea is like you don't know which one of these texts are going to ultimately be like a deterrent, right?
if they know that we can route around them, then there's no point in necessarily trying to restrict if it's already common place and it's already out there. And the other thing too is it's kind of like it's almost like the VC model of open source. Like think of how important Napster and then tour was for moving things forward on the internet. Like it all these tech all these all these different protocols, all these different tools, we don't have to necessarily adopt them all. But if we're out there experimenting, there might be one or two that becomes kind of mainstream that the the the youth of the day, and I mean that in the non-dogeratory way, are actually using for one reason or another that ends up having a profound impact on how things move forward.
>> Oh my god, Ben, >> it's a great comment there. Completely derailed by a uh >> I won't say a thing.
>> I Yeah, I just I just want to say like it's it's worth diving into these things and yeah, Walker, you're right. they're going to try to come after just about everything. Um, and so, yeah, learn to run it yourself. There's always going to be something that you can do, but it's better if you prepare in advance. And, you know, they're going to come for the major operating systems. You know, I'm sitting on a Mac here, but I've got a a a pretty decent um Linux machine sitting beside me now that I've been, you know, learning and kind of navigating. And so that's again another thing that I I want to dive into and teach people how to use uh alternative operating systems whether it be on your phone or your computer.
Like it's a big thing that I think people need to dive into. Um I will say I started using uh Hermes which is like a open claw alternative but smarter.
Holy [ __ ] dude. Having that running on a laptop and like learning from everything you ask it and keeping local files of your preferences and it's a game changer.
>> You thought it was you thought it was hard working for Ben before. Now I'm getting his AI bot is sending me [ __ ] emails.
>> Yeah, that's true.
>> Ben, where could people if they want to learn about all of these different tools they can use?
>> Where could they go? I'm glad you asked.
>> Oh man, >> there's a jail. Yeah, there is a channel. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but no, it's I've been uh I've been tweeting more from that account and I'm gonna start dropping nostra notes and everything, but uh I'm getting excited about playing with all this stuff and and people are starting to uh give follows and everything. So, I I appreciate everybody doing that. Uh but nonetheless, uh this is a [ __ ] blast.
Uh the >> wild I I can see the flow of blood in the chat still going, >> but I mean, >> boning the ice, they'll clean everything up. Yeah. It's a hockey. It's a hockey.
>> Yeah.
>> And and despite despite it all, despite the early rug pull, we've already had like almost 3,700 people watch this stream. So, >> we can't thank you guys. Thank you.
>> Yeah. Hats off to everybody. Uh you guys, >> we disagree calmly.
>> Yeah, exactly. They just wanted the chat back open so they could beat the [ __ ] out of each other again. That's all. Um no, this was great. I really enjoyed it.
So, uh, so we'll wrap here, but, uh, make sure you do subscribe to all the Gent Pods, uh, Canadian Bitcoiners, Brandon Gentilly, uh, Walker America, the Bitcoin podcast, as well as now the Sovereign Garden. Uh, and Nathan, you just dropped a new episode today with whom >> today. I dropped one with our good friend of the show, Simon Dixon, and Professor Dave Cullum.
>> How often do you have Simon Dixon?
>> Simon lives with Nathan. Now, >> what do you got picture? You got nudes or what? What's going on? He's basically like my what was it from uh from um oh Jesus Tim the tool man he's my guy at the fence right we just go we chat he comes on does Wilson thank you he's my Wilson he comes over neighborly guy we have wonderful conversations >> yeah great >> is he in the chat right now >> so good >> standing off to the side of of Nathan's feel like >> yes you watching the Bitcoin price movements and the latest exciting news it's awesome to stay informed but the real power of Bitcoin comes from taking control.
