According to the Velveteen Rabbit story featured in this video, being 'real' is not about how you were made, but rather a transformation that happens through genuine love and connection with others over time. The story explains that realness develops gradually through meaningful relationships, and once someone becomes real, they cannot be ugly except to those who do not understand.

Community Bobcat Bulletin (5/14/26)Added:
Greetings, Bobcat families. As we close another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to thank the entire CISD community for your continued support, your encouragement, and of course, your partnership. This year has been filled with moments that mattered.
From academic achievements and fine arts performances to athletic accomplishments, service projects and everyday acts of kindness, our students continue to shine because they are surrounded by people who believe in them. And so, thank you to our parents for trusting us with your children each day. Thank you to our staff, of course, for your heart, your dedication and excellence that you bring to your work, for loving the kid and driving the rigor. Thank you to our community members, our business partners, our volunteers and supporters who also continue to invest in our schools and then help make Salistic such a special place. Last week was staff appreciation week and uh a lot of you participated and helped heap heap love on our employees and so I thank you all for to our PTAs for helping our employees feel just how valued and appreciated they are and many of you who also sent things in with your kids. Um, it is so neat to see you all celebrate our staff like that.
Uh, truly our our staff's dedication is what makes CISD such a special place, of course, and it's of course also the embrace that we feel from our community that fuels our staff and lifts us all.
It's not too late to celebrate a special uh teacher, a special someone who's made a difference in your child's life. And so as we prepare to head off in the summer, if someone has made a significant impact um I to your child made a difference, I know a note from you would be so appreciated. And to that I also wanted to celebrate one of our retirees who wrote me a really beautiful note um that just lifted me um made me all kinds of weepy um and I just want to pay it forward to you all. Nancy is going to put uh this picture that uh was sent to me by Miss Seal. Some of you have had the opportunity to cross paths with Miss Seal. Um she's worked in our district in a variety of different places, uh a variety of different ways.
Um she's a truly talented artist. And so again, I'll have Nancy put this picture up, but um she along with uh her her sweet note that she uh sent to me and and with this beautiful picture, um Miss Seal also um added a little something from a book a lot of us may not have read in a long time or maybe you've read it to your little children from the Velvetine Rabbit. And of course, Miss Seal being who she is, titled her little note to be the Velvetine Seal. But if you don't know, uh this is from a a children's book where two sweet little stuffed animals are speaking to one another about how we all become whole.
Get your tissues, people. Uh it has two characters speaking to one another and uh it begins by saying, "The real isn't how you were made," said the skin. "It's a thing that happens to you when you love children and they love you for a long, long time. Not just a visit with, but that you really love them and then you become real. Does it happen all at once? Like being wound up, the skin horse asks. Or is it bit by bit? It doesn't happen all at once, said the skin. You become It takes a long time.
Generally, by the time you're real, most of your hair has been loved off. I understand. Your eyes and your face droop and you get loose in your joints, and you get very shabby. that these things don't matter at all because once you're real, you can't be ugly except to people who just don't understand. So, thank you to Miss Seal for that and thank you all to uh and and our other retirees, too. But to all of us for helping us all feel a little more real because of the impact these retirees have had, we've had, and you've had on us. Uh as our district continues to grow, one thing will remain constant, our shared commitment to students and to one another. and it's an honor to serve this community and I'm grateful for the way that we continue to come together in support of our schools and in support of our kids. I hope each of you has a safe, restful, and meaningful summer. We look forward to welcoming all of our students back for another great year ahead. But in the meantime, have fun and go Bobcats.
