This lesson teaches that the digraphs 'au' and 'aw' both produce the 'aw' sound in English, but they typically appear in different positions within words: 'au' usually appears in the middle of words (e.g., auto, August, launch, pause, caught, fault, applaud, cause, automatic, pawl, sauce, because, audio, daughter, caution, sausage, fraud, autumn), while 'aw' most commonly appears at the end of words (e.g., crawl, straw, draw, law, saw, raw, drawn, yawn, awful, awesome, jaw, fawn, hawk, sawdust, prawn, dawn). The instructor provides extensive vocabulary examples and definitions for both digraphs, followed by dictation practice exercises to reinforce spelling skills.
