When evaluating books, readers should assess whether characters feel authentic and developed, as flat characters with minimal depth can make it difficult to care about the story outcome; additionally, recognizing when a book's premise is overused or feels like a poorly executed Young Adult novel can help readers make informed decisions about whether to continue reading.

Added:[music] >> Hey everyone. Again, this is the first time I look in a mirror most days and my hair is braided back and stuff. So it looks like I have no hair. But good morning. Welcome to Sunday. So let's see. Last night I ended up not getting back on to talk to you guys because the massage person that I went to is a friend of my parents and she is just wonderful and I have seen her a handful of times throughout my life and I haven't seen her in many, many years and so she spent two hours on my massage and it was a beautiful thing. It was so awesome except then if you've ever had a massage, it's like you come home and you're in this like dazed state where it's like I don't want to do all the things and you have to do all the things. So I came home and everybody was starving because I thought I was going to be home like at 5:00 and I ended up getting home at 6:00. So I made dinner, fed the baby, took a shower, ate dinner. We they had recorded the soccer game to save for me.
And so watched that England and like I I accidentally saw the score on my phone and was like that's like a baseball score. It was 6 to 4. That doesn't normally happen in soccer. So it was a really fun game to watch and I'm happy England won. It doesn't really matter third versus fourth place, but whatever.
Um So yeah, I didn't get back on because it was chaos. It was chaos and then we went to bed and last night was a little rough. Um but we're okay. We're getting through.
So now today everybody woke up at 6:00 which is just early for them.
So I'm anticipating kind of a challenging day, but that's okay. We're we've got plans. We've got fun galore.
So I think what's going to happen today is we're going to go putt-putt. I'm going to work out, and um then maybe my plan was to go over nap time to a bookstore, but I don't know if that's going to work out because everybody needs to take chill time, probably me included.
And so, we might I might try to go this morning while they swim. I'm not really sure, but I do have bookish updates, and as you guys know, I will take you along if we go to a bookstore, by golly, I'll take you along, but um I am maybe like 30, 40% of the way through What If I Never Got a Review by Page Two and honestly, I think I'm um reading this to get to 50% so I can DNF because this is about a girl, I can't even remember her name, Ellie. She was in Europe and um just kind of gallivanting around, met this guy, spent 3 days with him, and then she was late somewhere they were supposed to meet, and he ghosted her.
And so, now, flash forward 6 years later, she is a gardener on this like prestigious land or whatever, and and he comes back into her life, and it's like, what? What happened? All that kind of stuff. And I don't know. I have read one I think one Page Two that I really liked, and then the rest have all been duds for me, and so I'm wondering if she's just not the author for me because I feel like the characters are very, very flat. So, even though like they spent 3 days together, which again, I mean, we've had this conversation this month. I have never experienced this, so I'm kind of a skeptic of this of like 3 days with one person being the love of your life, changing forever, and it like I don't know, still being all wrapped up in it, but anyway, let's put my cynicism aside and say that this is a thing, and so now, 6 years later, he's back in her life, and they're trying to figure things out. The characters are really flat. I never felt for them in the 3 days that they were together.
Like I I don't I don't really care if they ended up together. I didn't really feel the chemistry. None of of feel like very fleshed out characters, and so I just find myself like zoning out with this and not really interested at all.
And like I feel like this is kind of a premise that you see a thousand times of like people have some time together, then something happens, and there's miscommunication, and then they get back together, and there's a lot of miscommunication. And to make that happen well, you have to I have I have to either really be shipping the couple or really like one of the characters, and none of that's going on. So, truthfully, uh if it if this wasn't for Dectective Rizzoli and I would just DNF it, but I'm going to keep on listening until 50% uh when we work when I go work out, I'm going to listen to it, and that gives me like 15 20% to listen to.
And if it hooks me, great. I'll finish the book and maybe come to you later with different thoughts, but if I don't feel any different um having a good chunk of time to listen to it, I'm going to be done. I'm going to be done, and I'm going to be very cautious about picking up Page Turn Again. So, let me know if you've read this one. Um and then I was able to see you guys yesterday. So, I think I talked to you right before I was going to go swim with the girls, and I did.
And it was so fun, and we did so many things. But then I was like, "Gosh, I'm tired. I want to just sit on a raft."
And so my girls like I think I've unlocked parenting right now. I am going to tell you this. I get I got this little raft thing. It wasn't like a fully reclined raft. It was kind of like a sit-up raft, and pull put like ropes on the side, and so my girls pulled me around the pool, and like pushed me off into great the great sea, and made this whole adventure about the places they were taking me. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in this raft reading my book. Like I felt like I won parenting yesterday when I'm floating around the pool, getting pushed around the pool. So, it was a little rocky, and my book uh well, my book is a little worse for wear. It's a little water damaged, um but I was reading this book, and this book I feel like I've been talking about it forever. You guys are probably sick of it, but it's two women at respective houses with their kids solo.
One of them has a substance abuse problem and is going to rehab. Now, this is something I've experienced in my life. I have not gone to rehab, but my family member has and so it's interesting because the woman who goes to rehab has three kids and one of them is reacting in a way that feels very relatable to me and they're all reacting in ways like they're all exaggerated ways or feelings that I had during that experience. And so it's really interesting. I would love to read this more. We just have not had a minute of downtime. So this is really interesting. It's really good. Kate Hewitt writes fast-paced, really good books. So it's crazy that I'm spending as long with this as I am, but time has just not been a thing so cuz this afternoon my nieces are coming over and we're going to swim. We're going to watch the soccer game. We are going to do all the things. We're going to watch church. We're not going to church today because our church here that we have been to and used to go to I think it would be sad to go without Jeremy and I don't like I think it would be good to go with him. So we're going to either watch this church or home church later.
Um And yeah, anyway, that's that's the update for now. I feel like I'm taking random clips and not explaining them to you because I can't even remember what I did 10 minutes ago let alone like earlier in the day. So Um yeah, next up pup putt, workouts, maybe the bookstore. We'll just see how the day goes.
>> [music] [music] >> See you breaks and burned by the morning light. I make the same [music] mistakes more than twice. Same song, a brand new dance. I wear out my third second chance. [singing and music] You would take my breath and I can't get it back.
Might be time for me to face the facts.
The best me [music] is >> Hey everyone. So it is the halftime show for the World Cup right now and I just snuck out because I don't really care about Justin Bieber or any of the people. I I like I don't even know. I mean, I know Madonna. I know Justin Bieber, but I am not up on pop music at all. And so I snuck out here.
Today has been fun, um, but it's also kind of just hitting us. So we went to putt-putt like the girls putt-putted while I worked out and then they started another round, um, and so we stayed. It is just so hot and yes, I'm saying that wearing like a zip-up jacket because it's cold inside and I just came outside, but it is so hot that like I kind of got a headache and all of that. We came home.
The girls swam and we watched them swim.
I did not get in the pool or anything right now and then, um, just went down and laid let laid down and watched the first half of the game and now my nieces are about to come over. So I finished some books, though. Um, DNF'd it, guys. I listened to 50% like like I promised and then DNF'd it because this feels like a YA. Like I think Paige Toon originally was a YA author and this feels like YA. The amount of miscommunication and just immaturity in this combined with the lack of character development combined with the probably 10 StarGirl references.
Like this felt like a YA a poorly done YA. [clears throat] And I feel like really harsh saying that, but I don't care if this couple ends up together. He is dating somebody, um, potentially engaged, and so I'm definitely not shipping them. So, overall, this is one that I'm happy to let go even though it's got a pretty cover. Then, I listened to actually my next listen, which I had planned to make a physical read, but since I'm still feels physically reading, still physically reading, uh, the other one, I listened to Wayside School is Falling Down, and this is was written in my birth year.
And this is a series of, um, short Yeah, I mean, every chapter is about a different kid from Wayside School, and it's just funny, goofy stories that I think kids will really find funny. Um, for me, this was like a 4-hour audiobook, and so I listened to at least two times speed, and so listening to like 2 hours of the same kind of thing over and over, I mean, I'm not the target audience. It wasn't my sense of humor, but I think with the exception of a couple little things, this is fine to pass on to my girls. Um, there's definitely some body-shaming stuff, but overall, I mean, it's silly stories that are just kind of funny and silly. So, two books down, um, unfortunately, neither were like anything that's really motivated me, and then I've got this headache and, uh, jam-packed schedule {slash} ready to be home {slash} all the feelings, and, um, I don't know that I'll do much more reading today. So, the plan, like I said, is just to hang out with my nieces. I'm going to make pasta for dinner, and then hopefully call it a night. Everybody woke up super early, and the baby's the only one that napped, so I'm hoping for an early bedtime, and yeah. So, I think I'll go maybe read and watch the last half of the game, and then hop in the pool, and call it a night. So, thank you guys so much for watching. We'll see you tomorrow.
