Macbeth : A Crown bought with blood | Shakespeare on Tell a tale with heenaAdded:
He killed the king to become one, but lost his peace forever. Listen to this tragedy of Macbeth, written by Shakespeare in the early 1600s. Set in medieval Scotland, this tragedy talks about the rise and fall of a great Scottish warrior named Macbeth.
One day, as Macbeth was returning after winning a battle for Scotland, he and his very loyal friend Banquo are summoned by three witches on a stormy heath. The witches speak of a prophecy, a very deadly prophecy. They say to Macbeth, "All hail Macbeth, the king of Scotland." Which means the witches tell Macbeth that you will become the king of Scotland. Oh god, after this what happens? Ambition starts poisoning Macbeth's mind and also his wife, Lady Macbeth, fuels this ambition further.
So, one night when King Duncan, the current king of Scotland, is sleeping peacefully in Macbeth's chambers, Macbeth goes and kills the king in his sleep.
And yes, the prophecy of the witches come true. Macbeth is crowned as the king of Scotland. But, fate has his own plans because Macbeth after this is consumed by guilt, fear, and paranoia.
Yes, he starts seeing bloody visions and also hearing voices that say that Macbeth shall sleep no more. He starts killing people who threaten his throne.
For example, Banquo, his friend, the family of Macduff, and anyone else who threatens him. And what happens to Lady Macbeth? Oh god, once fear and coldness, she starts sleepwalking and removing these imaginary bloody stains from her hands, shouting that out damn it spot. That is how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth descend into madness. And yes, after this in a battle Macbeth is killed by Macduff. God.
You know, the throne that he murdered for slips from his hands along with his life. And what is the moral of this Shakespearean tragedy?
Unchecked authority or unchecked ambition can turn heroes into monsters.
