Then industrial capitalism needed synchronized labor, so factories introduced time clocks and rigid scheduling in the late 1800s. But here's the brilliant part. The system didn't just control your work hours. It engineered conditions where you'd be too exhausted afterward to do anything meaningful. 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep, 8 hours leisure. Except those leisure hours get devoured by commuting, cooking, cleaning, and recovering.
