The Most UNHINGED Books I Have Ever Read 20+ Books

[00:00:07]Hello, my friends. Welcome or welcome back to my channel. If you're new here, my name's Karly, and today I'm going to be talking to you all about the most unhinged books I have ever read. Now, if you have been here a while, you will know I love me an unhinged book. The more unhinged, the higher the rating.

[00:00:24]I'm particularly partial to an unhinged FMC. I I don't know what it is. There is just something about a female character that's completely unhinged. I actually feel like I can relate to a lot of them.

[00:00:37]And I don't know what that says about me. Actually, if you have seen my most recent 24-hour reading vlog that went up just a few days before this video, I feel like my own level of unhinged. It peaked in that video, let me tell you.

[00:00:50]Now, some of the books in this video are extreme horror. I think I can't actually remember what's on my list now. I'm pretty sure some of them are extreme horror. So, it goes without saying, make sure you check any trigger warnings before you read some of these books. But you know what? I just always feel like I have such a fun time with an unhinged book. A lot of the books in this video today had me laughing out loud, like giggling, snort laughing at just how outrageous [laughter] some of these characters behaved. And to be honest, I think I'm just going to leave the intro there. Who even is she doing a short intro? But yeah, should we just get into the books? I think I've got 20ish books to go through. Oh, before I start talking about the books, actually, if anybody has any unhinged book recommendations, fire away in the comments. The more outrageous and unhinged, the better. Bonus points if it's got an unhinged female character.

[00:01:44]Let's get into the books. First up, we're going to start with one of my favorite series. Book one is How to Kill Men and Get Away with It by Katie Brent.

[00:01:52]Book two is I Bet You'd Look Good in a Coffin. And book three isn't out yet.

[00:01:57]It's being released next month and I cannot bloody wait to get my hands on it. And that one's called To All the Men I've Killed Before, I believe. These books follow our main female character, Kitty Collins, who is an absolute icon.

[00:02:10]By day, Kitty is an influencer, and by night, she is an unhinged psychopathic serial killer. Now, Kitty is a bit of a vigilante serial killer, and she has made it her mission to rid the world of predatory men. These books, oh my god, they are full of dark humor. The first two books in this series had me laughing out loud. Honestly, some of Kitty's oneliners are hilarious. She, oh my god, she makes use of her family's abattoire as well to get rid of the body. So, there's a lot of graphic and gross descriptions as well. But there's also Kitty taking a selfie like this after How do you take a selfie like that?

[00:02:49][laughter] taking a selfie like this of herself after she's been spending the evening murdering men and mincing them up in her family's abattoire. So, you get a bit of everything with these books. Even though they are dark and graphic and they're funny, they also have a message within them. They also have something to say.

[00:03:07]And me personally, I bloody love a book that has something to say. So, yeah, starting off strong with the Kitty Collins series. Next up is Guillotine by Delila S. Dawson. And this is a short, snappy, completely unhinged horror novella with major Eat the Rich vibes.

[00:03:25]So, this is all about a fashionista called Dez who is in a relationship with Patrick. She's not all that fussed on Patrick to be honest, but he invites Dez to spend the weekend on his family's luxury island. They've got a private island. So, even though Dez isn't all that fussed on Patrick, she agrees to go because Dez's mother is editor-inchief at Neuvo magazine and Dez is hoping that by spending the weekend with Patrick's mother, she can boost her own career.

[00:03:55]However, not long after Dez arrives at this island, all hell breaks loose. And to be honest, I'm not going to say too much more about the plot. It is under 200 pages, so there's not much more to say without spoiling it, but it is just, oh my god, it is an absolute unhinged gore fest. It is complete carnage, and I had the best time while I was reading it. Next up is Butcher and Blackbird by Bin Weaver. That's a lot of bees. That's a lot of alliteration going on there.

[00:04:25]And this, do you know what? This isn't my usual genre. I think this has been marketed as a dark romance. And whilst it does have dark romance elements, I think it also like dips its toe into the thriller genre and horror. There's a lot of body horror in this book. There's a serial killer story line as well.

[00:04:45]There's actually multiple serial killer story lines. So definitely like dips its toe into thriller and then you get yeah like a a side of dark romance as well.

[00:04:53]So this follows the story of two serial killers who work alone. Their names are Rowan and Sloan. Bloody hell. [laughter] I I'm a poet and I didn't know it. And they fall for each other whilst hunting other serial killers that are worse than them. So Rowan and Sloan are also vigilante serial killers and they have made it their mission to rid the world of some of the worst, most depraved humans you could ever think of. Now, one thing I'll say about this book is I actually did this on audio and I highly recommend the audio book. Oh my god. The narrator for I can't remember. Sloan is the female. So the narrator for Rowan, [gasps] absolutely delicious vibes. He is Irish.

[00:05:37]He's got the dreamy Irish accent. And I just had the Oh my god, I had such a fun time while I was reading this. I think because I'm a thriller horror loving girly as well. This just Oh, this just ticked all the boxes for me. completely psychotic, completely unhinged, and will probably slash definitely put you off or pasta and ice cream for the rest of your life. Next up is a short, snappy, unhinged, extreme horror novella. The eight cases of Jane by R.J. Powell. I wonder how many times I'm going to say the word unhinged in this video. I feel like I need to put a little counter on the screen. Take a shot every time I say the word unhinged. [laughter] No, actually, don't do that cuz well, it's not going to end well. So, this is Oh, let me get the blur up. I think it's under 100 pages, you know. It's on Kindle Unlimited and Oh, it's 114 pages.

[00:06:31]And it's basically all about Jane, who is very, very angry and very, very unhinged. And the book is Jane's psychiatric interviews where she talks all about the men she's killed. So the blurb literally says Jane Murphy killed eight men between the dates of October 1995 and January 1996. This is Jane's psychiatric interview. And that's all you get. That that is literally all you get in the blur. So the story, I mean, it's not very long, so it's not very in-depth, but it's just all about Jane telling us what she did to all of these different men. And just as you think, wow, that's very unhinged behavior. Oh, it gets worse. It gets much worse.

[00:07:15][laughter] So, if you're thinking to yourself, Carly, surely it can't get much worse than this. I promise you it does. And you know what? I can actually remember my Goodreads review, like posting my Goodreads review immediately after finishing this book, and all I put was, "Well, Jane is a little bit unhinged, isn't she?" And she is. But this is another one that I just had such a fun time with. And it's perfect as well if you don't mind extreme horror and you don't mind the shock value. if you're looking for something like if you're looking for a little bit of a snack, an unhinged snack. Next up is Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison. Oh, do you know what? Rachel Harrison is one of my favorite authors. She is an autoby author for me. And this is another one that I just had such a fun time with.

[00:07:58]It's all about a girl called Rory, a woman called Rory, and one night while she's driving home from work, she hits an animal with her car. She gets out of her car to investigate, and this animal attacks her. And then not long after this animal attack, like in the days after the animal attack, Rory starts noticing some personal changes. So it says there in the blurb, she's unnaturally strong with an aversion to silver and suddenly the moon has her in its thr. She's changing into someone else, something else. But does that mean she's putting those close to her in danger? Or is embracing the wildness inside her the key to acceptance? So you can probably guess the direction this book goes in. I actually think I don't have the book with me. It's upstairs in my book room. I'm sure it says on the front a werewolf novel or something like that. And it's basically all about Rory and her changes and she starts unraveling and doing some pretty unhinged things. This is not quite as graphic as some of the other books in this video. So, if you want to dip your toe into the unhinged genre, the unhinged trope, then I would suggest maybe trying this one. Next up is another one of my faves that you know what? I am so surprised. This doesn't have very good reviews. I've just had a look and it's only got a 3.6 average rating on Amazon, but you know when you just click with a book, [laughter] you just click with the very very unhinged female character. Oh god, I just had this was this was another book that actually made me laugh out loud while I was reading it. It's another one I did on audio actually and I would highly recommend the audio. So, I don't know if reading it physically versus listening to it on audio makes a difference, but yeah, I highly recommend the audio. It is available on Kindle Unlimited, though, just in case you would prefer to read it on your Kindle.

[00:09:49]So, this is all about Abby and Ralph.

[00:09:52]They are a married couple, and they end up going to stay with Ralph's mother, Laura, who isn't a very nice person, to be honest, but she's not in the best place mentally. So, they go to stay with her to kind of like keep an eye on her, basically.

[00:10:07]Laura dies. This isn't a spoiler. It's all in the blurb. And then Abby and Ralph are haunted by Laura's ghost, but in completely different ways. So, it says there Ralph is plunged into depression and Abby is being terrorized by a force intent on taking everything she loves away from her. So, even though Laura's dead, Abby is convinced that Laura's ghost is out to terrorize her.

[00:10:31][laughter] And she's like arguing with this ghost.

[00:10:34]And I think I just loved it so much because it is so ridiculous and so irrational and because I did it on audio and you get Aby's like inner thoughts.

[00:10:46]Guys, there's a scene in this book in the funeral home and I can't remember the specifics of it, but they're going to see like they're going to see the funeral directors to talk about Laura's funeral. And Abby is talking about the funeral director as if he's flirting with her. And I can remember, oh my god, you know when something just really tickles you? I mean, you may read it and not find it remotely funny, but it really, really tickled me. So, yeah, this is another one of my personal faves. Doesn't have the best rep, but I can't fault it. Oh, next up, we've got another one on Kindle Unlimited. I feel like Kindle Unlimited is quite partial to an unhinged book. So, next up is Kadavabone by Wendy Dal Rimple. This is another short, sharp, completely >> [laughter] >> batshit crazy novela. It is Oh, this one's under 100 pages. It is 90 pages and it's all about a woman who has an injury to her ACL. Is me pointing to my knee. Is that where your ACL is? I think it is. [laughter] God, I feel like I'm getting more and more unhinged as this video is going on. Anyway, she has surgery to repair it and she comes home and is convinced that there is something not quite right with her knee. So, she starts spiraling and to be honest, there's not really much more to say because it's very very short, but it just Yeah, it just unravels. The main character, Mia, she starts unraveling and starts becoming obsessed with her own knee. I just think this is another one. I think is this extreme horror? I don't know. It doesn't say. It hasn't got any warnings on it. It just says, "Cadaavver bone is a pink horror meditation of the price of lies and how far someone will go to write their wrongs." Next up is Steven by Amy Cross.

[00:12:34]And I just want to say before you even think about going into this book, definitely check any trigger warnings because there are a lot of triggering scenes and I don't know, there's some really, really dark themes in this book.

[00:12:48]So, definitely don't go into it lightly.

[00:12:50]I don't think it is extreme horror, is it? I don't think it's been classed as extreme horror. Let me get the blurb up.

[00:12:57]It just says it's a Gothic horror novel steeped in dread, grief, and the ghosts that bind us. Do you dare to read to the infamous chapter 28? We'll get to chapter 28 in a short while, but this is all about a governness called Barl and she takes a job at oh, it's the same old story just at this crumbling estate to go and look after to go and be a nanny for a baby, a baby boy called Steven.

[00:13:24]But when Barl arrives, she realizes that there's something very, very wrong going on in this house. The house begins to whisper. Nobody will talk to Barl about what happened to the previous nanny/govern.

[00:13:38]So yeah, it's just all very very strange. Like I went into this book I I honestly don't know what I expected, but it definitely wasn't what it is.

[00:13:47][laughter] I went into this book I don't know. I just expected it to be a well a gothic horror novel steeped in dread and I thought, "Oh, I love me a bit of creeping dread. Love me a gothic horror novel. So I'll give it a go." And wow, chapter 28. [laughter] I honestly think I spent the whole of chapter 28 like this. Eyes and mouth wide open for the whole chapter. I mean, I have seen quite a lot of reviews saying, "Was this chapter really necessary? Was the direction the story went in very necessary?" Probably not.

[00:14:22]But guys, we listen and we don't judge.

[00:14:25]But I really enjoyed this book. [snorts] I was gripped. I read it in one sitting.

[00:14:30]and I couldn't put it down. I loved the atmosphere. I loved the story line and yeah, I just had a really enjoyable time. So, I would highly recommend it, but like I said, definitely go into it with caution because it is actually quite graphic and it's very unhinged.

[00:14:47]Next up is The Last Party by AR Tore. I think this one is on Kindle Unlimited as well, is it? Let me see. Ever the professional winging it as usual. It is available on Kindle Unlimited. And guys, oh my god, Pearler. Pla is our main female character in this book. And she is honestly one of the most unhinged characters ever, ever with capital E Ver exclamation mark. So Pear has always been obsessed with an old case from oh, a good few years ago. I don't know, I want to say 10 years ago or something like that where three young girls were murdered during a birthday party. So yeah, she has an unhealthy obsession with this case. She has an unhealthy obsession with the guy that was convicted for these murders. And you know what? Her obsession goes even further than that because Pear has decided that she would like to recreate the crime scene from this birthday party murders with her own daughter and her own daughter's birthday party and her own daughter's friends. I honestly don't think it gets much more unhinged than that, does it? Now, do you know what? I have seen so many mixed reviews for this book. And is it the best book I've ever read? No, it's definitely not. But oh guys, I just had such a fun time with Pear because she is so despicable. Like some of the things she said genuinely had me gasping out loud because they were so outrageous. I was like, "Surely not. Surely she is not going to do that.

[00:16:18]Surely she's not planning to off her own daughter." But yeah, whatever you're thinking, surely not. Pear Pla's definitely planning it and worse. She's got worst plans up her sleeve. And yeah, it's just one of my faves. Very easy to read and like I said, available on Kindle Unlimited. Next up is one of my favorite books ever. Do you know what?

[00:16:38]When I finished this book, I originally rated it four and a half stars, but the more I think about this book, like I cannot stop thinking about it, I actually think I'm going to increase it to a five star. Like, I'm going to make use of my own free will. I loved this book. So the book, [laughter] you're probably thinking just shut up.

[00:16:56]What is the book? The book is Blood on Her Tongue by Johanna Vanvine. This is set in the 19th century and it follows twin sisters Lucy and Sarah. Now Sarah has discovered a bog body on her husband. Is it? No, I was going to say her late husband. He's not dead, is he?

[00:17:13]I don't think he is. No. No, he's not because he's the one threatening to throw her into an asylum. So yeah, she discovers a bog body and not long after discovering this body, Sarah becomes unwell. Now she has this sickness. She's not acting quite like herself either.

[00:17:32]And her sister Lucy is becoming very concerned about her increasingly irrational and unhinged behavior.

[00:17:40]Because Sarah has this threat of being thrown in the asylum looming over her head. They've got their own doctor and her husband is saying the doctor is like this close to putting her in an asylum because like what is she doing? She is not acting like she should be acting.

[00:17:57]This is another one I had so much fun with. I am obsessed with Johanna Vanvine's writing style. Her writing is absolutely stunning. She hooked me in straight away. I was so invested in Sarah's story and her behavior. Oh my god, it becomes like well it's it's bordering on dangerous. This book is full of body horror as well. Very shocking and quite disgusting body horror. I'm quite partial to a bit of body horror myself, but if body horror isn't your thing, then I don't know, maybe steer clear of this one. But I just loved the writing. I love the setting. I love the characters. I love anything to do with madness or asylums.

[00:18:38]So, this this book just had my name all over it, to be honest. And yeah, I am as of now officially increasing it to a five star rating. Next up is another one on Kindle Unlimited. It's What Lies Between Us by John Mars. Now, I do feel like John Mars, oh, he loves to write an unhinged character, doesn't he? Like, just off the top of my head, thinking of the books by him that I've read, I can name quite a few extremely unhinged characters. Well, this book has two of them. So, this book follows the story of Nenah and Maggie. Nenah is the daughter.

[00:19:12]Maggie is the mother. They don't get on very well, Nenah and Maggie. To the extent where Nina actually has her mother, [laughter] honestly, it's so unhinged. It's hilarious. She has her mother, Maggie, chained up in the attic. It says there in the blurb, "When they are finished with dinner, every evening, Nenah helps Maggie back to her room in the attic and into the heavy chain that keeps her there because Maggie has done things to Nina that can't ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price." This is another one that I did on audio actually, and I think I enjoyed this more because I did it on audio. Very similarly to Mother Thing by Anley Hogarth. I just think there's a few more actually in this video that I've done on audio. And I just think when you have an unhinged character, like the narration of an unhinged character, it's almost as if you're inside their mind and it's even more unhinged. I don't know. I think it's the way it's narrated as well because because it's narrated and you're like, [gasps] "Oh my god, this is actually so funny." Whereas if you're reading it, like reading the words on the page, maybe it's not as unhinged.

[00:20:18]But yeah, this is another one that oh my god, it just gets increasingly unhinged.

[00:20:24]I'm I'm actually fed up of saying the word unhinged now and I'm [laughter] I've still got loads of books to talk about. It is a psychological thriller.

[00:20:31]It's definitely not as extreme as some of the other books in this video. So, another one that's perfect if you're looking to dip your toe in. Next up is She's a Lamb by Meredith Hamrock. This is another one I did on audio that I highly recommend the audio for and it's all about our main female character. Her name is Jessimine. And Jessimine is adamant that she is destined to be a star. Like this is her calling in life.

[00:20:55]Now Jessimine auditions for the role of Maria in The Sound of Music. And she is outraged with capital letters exclamation mark that she doesn't get the main role, but she is determined to prove her worth and to prove to the people who are running the show that she does deserve the main part in The Sound of Music. However, Jessimine is another one that becomes very, very irrational, extremely delusional, and she's just starts spiraling. Her behavior, oh my god, her behavior in this is, do I do I dare say the word again? Unhinged. It is completely unhinged. And again, I think because I did this book on audio and we had Jessimine's narration. Oh, guys, I was absolutely screaming laughing while I was listening to this book. It says there at the bottom of the blurb, "Sharp, relentless, and darkly funny, she is a lamb is a cutting satire about the grotesque pole patriarchy casts over one woman's delusional quest." Wow, that's a really long sentence. To achieve her dreams and the depths she will sink to for a chance at the life she's convinced she deserves.

[00:22:04]I think the like the most funny part about this book is that she is so delusional. She can [laughter] like people are telling her, "Jessimine Han, you can't really sing. You don't have the best singing voice." And she's like, "You're all lying. You're all lying. I I deserve to be Maria." And yeah, it it just spirals into absolute chaos. So, another one of my faves that I will never stop recommending. Next up is a very, very recent read. I actually read this as part of my 24-hour reading vlog that was posted a few days ago. It's Decomposition Book by Sar Van O. I think that's how you say her surname. Now, this is all about Ava and Savannah. So, basically, Savannah wakes up next to Ava's dead body in the middle of the woods, and she starts forming an attachment to this dead body. Almost starts a relationship, I guess. Savannah is quite delusional. She suffers with her mental health. She also has the inner monologue of one of her ex- best friends voices. They fell out. her ex- best friend, obviously, because she's an ex- best friend, wasn't very nice to her. So, you've got AA's voice inside Savannah's head and also her ex- best friend's voice. And well, what can I say about this book? It's very gross. There are very graphic descriptions of the decomposition of a body. Also, next to Ava's body is her rucks sack. And inside the rucks sack, Savannah finds Ava's journal. So you get Savannah reading Ava's journal and finding out like what what her life was like before she died.

[00:23:42]You get the dual POV actually. So you get Savannah's POV and AA's POV. And you know what? I went into this book and I honestly don't know what I expected going into it. But I laughed, I cried.

[00:23:54]Oh my god, I went on a hell of an emotional roller coaster with this book.

[00:23:59]And I absolutely bloody loved it. I actually think out of all of the books in this video, this one is a little bit different. It has a completely different tone. It is funny in places like some of the oneliners in this. If you've watched my reading vlog, you will see they had me screaming, laughing, but it is also quite sad as well. And there's a mental health representation. Savannah has a therapist that she does online sessions with. She's also using AA's like internal voice as therapy. So, yeah, I actually think this is an extremely underrated hidden gem of a book. Next up is another book that's available on Kindle Unlimited and another one that I read in my 24-hour reading vlog. It's Maggie's Grave by David Sodigrun. Now, this book, oh, is it extreme horror? I feel like it is quite extreme. It's quite graphic. The book opens with a 17th century timeline that follows Maggie, who has been accused of witchcraft.

[00:24:58]I'm not going to say too much about that chapter apart from the fact that it is oh my god you are thrown straight into the action. It is very graphic like very shocking to read actually quite sad. So, you are thrown straight into it in chapter one and then we are to the present day then or whenever. I think it's like 2019 and it's set in the same town of Oken Mullen and it's basically all about Maggie's ghost coming back to go on this well completely unhinged murderous rampage because she wants revenge and she wants back what was taken from her. And that's that's all I'm going to say. How long is this one?

[00:25:39]Oh, this is quite short. 234 pages. I really enjoyed it. I read it in one sitting and it's another one that just gets increasingly more. I'm running out of words. I need a thesaurus. I need some more words for Unhinged, but it does just get increasingly more unhinged as the book goes on. Next up is another one that I had so much fun with. A good person by Kirsten King. I think I read this last month. I'm sure it was on my June reading wrap-up. And it's all about a woman called Lillian. [laughter] She's another Oh, she's another one that's completely delusional. She is having a lovely time with her boyfriend Henry. But Henry Henry isn't all that fussed, to be honest. And he dumps her.

[00:26:20]So, because she's so mad, Lillian decides to do a YouTube hex on him.

[00:26:25][laughter] And the next morning, she wakes up and Henry's dead. So, she's thinking to herself, "Oh my god, like, was it my YouTube hex? Did I hex Henry dead?" So you get that story line. It almost reminded me a little bit of The Craft. You know the film The Craft?

[00:26:41]Bloody hell. I watched that when I was a teenager. I absolutely loved that film because of the Hex. It kind of gave those vibes. It says there at the bottom of the blurb, "Desper to control the narrative, clear her name, and assume her rightful place as Henry's mourning girlfriend, Lillian's pursuit of the truth will throw her into a dangerous tail spin, which may just upend her life for good. sharp, hilarious, and painfully relatable. I think I've already said it. I'm repeating myself.

[00:27:08]I'm like a stuck record in this video, but it was just fun. It was fun to read.

[00:27:12]It's another one. It's under 300 pages.

[00:27:14]This is another one that I went into with absolutely no expectations. I sat down in my little pink chair, read it in one sitting, and found it highly entertaining the entire time I was reading it. It is another one I've seen very mixed reviews for, but I had a lot of fun with it. Next up is Tradife by Saratoga Schaefer. I tell you what, this book is the definition of unhinged. It's all about a tradife influencer called Camille who is desperate for a baby. She believes that having a baby will elevate her content further. And well, to cut a long story short, Camille starts going wandering in the fields at the back of her house, and she comes across a creepy looking well. Now, I've said this multiple times on my channel previously, but I have learned my lesson from all the books I've read, the films I've watched. Stay the hell away from creepy looking wells. Now, obviously, Camille doesn't stay the hell away from this creepy looking well. And instead, she makes a wish. She throws a coin down there, makes a wish, and let's just say her wish comes true, but it doesn't quite pan out quite the way Camille hoped it would. The rest of the book just descends into absolute chaos.

[00:28:26]unhinged chaos. This is another one actually that you just you could never predict the direction that this book goes in. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it because I just kept thinking to myself, what on earth is Camille going to do next? So, yeah, another one I absolutely loved and it's another one I read in one sitting.

[00:28:45]So, highly recommend. Next up is Yesterday by Carl Cla Burke. Now, I have seen very, very mixed reviews for this one. I do feel like people seem to either love it or hate it. Now, I went into this book quite apprehensively because usually when a book is being massively hyped more often than not, I'm not a huge fan, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. Now, this is another one I did on audio, and again, I do think that doing this on audio did have an effect on my overall enjoyment of the book.

[00:29:19]Now, this follows another tradife influencer called Natalie who oh on Instagram lives the perfect life. She has a farmhouse of dreams. She has dairy cows like oh everything. She makes her own sourdough. Everything's absolutely perfect like picture perfect. However, Natalie's Insta perfect life is very much Instagram versus reality. There are like you get the behind the scenes of what it really takes to have this perfect image online which I liked. I think it's very relevant in today's society. And then one day Natalie wakes up in the 1800s. So she wakes up in the Victorian era and she is now living this well trad life that she has glamorized all over the internet and she realizes that actually it's not all that glamorous at all. and she's woken up in this absolute nightmare. So, I just think the historical loving girly in me loved the historical timeline. I also loved Natalie. She is a despicable character. She's not a very nice person at all. Maybe I didn't love her, but I loved to hate her. Did I hate her, though? I don't think I did hate her. We listen and we don't judge. Okay. I do know that the reason not many people have liked this book is because they've hated Natalie. But, I don't know. I just think because she was so unhinged, I loved her because she was so unhinged.

[00:30:42]Like I said, I rate all my books based on vibes and I just had a thoroughly enjoyable time with this book. And yeah, the vibes were pretty spot on, to be honest. Right, we're nearly there. We got four more left. Next up is Greedy by Callie Kazumi. This was another one that I went into with no expectations and I read it in one sitting. I found this book so addictive to read. Callie Kazumi's writing was addictive to read.

[00:31:04]The story, I was so invested in the story. So, this follows the story of our main character called Ed who has the Japanese mafia on his tail. I think he owes them a lot of money. He's up to his eyeballs in debt. His wife knows nothing about this debt either. So, he is literally he's having a terrible time.

[00:31:23]And luckily for Ed, he gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime to become a private private personal chef for a reclusive billionaire who coincidentally is completely unhinged. And let's just say that our reclusive and unhinged billionaire has some very unusual tastes that she wants Ed to cater for. It says there in the blurb, "Caught up in a world more sinister than he could ever have imagined, Ed finds himself entangled in another debt." So basically, Ed is out of a frying pan and into the fryer, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Now, even though Ed has brought it all on himself, and I didn't have much sympathy for him, I [laughter] I don't know. I was just so invested in how much worse his situation could possibly get. And I tell you what I liked about this book. Oh, there were a few things. I loved the food descriptions in it. Oh, the food descriptions were absolutely delicious.

[00:32:20]And I also liked the idea of being greedy, not just for food, but for other things. And that's all I'm going to say.

[00:32:27]Another one that I will never stop recommending and a book that in my opinion was extremely easy to read and very entertaining. Next up is Best Offer Wins by Marissa Cashino and this is another one I did on audio and another one that I absolutely loved the audio book narration for. So this is all about a woman called Margo who oh she's having a terrible time as well to be honest.

[00:32:50]She is trying to buy her dream house. I think she's lost out on the auctions on 11 auctions or something. And she's well, she thinks to herself, I'm not doing it again. I'm not losing out on my dream house for the 12th time. So, when she finds her new dream house, it's basically just how far Margot is willing to go in order to buy her dream house.

[00:33:12]This is another book that just gets increasingly unhinged. Marot is spiraling. She's losing control. She's losing her grip on reality. And yeah, she just starts infiltrating the life of the people that live at this house.

[00:33:26]Margo actually reminded me a little bit of Jessimine from She's a Lamb. You know, when the main character just becomes increasingly more delusional and yeah, just losing their grip on reality.

[00:33:38]This is exactly the situation Margot finds herself in. And oh, I just it's another one that I just had such a fun time with. And to finish are two books that I personally didn't rate very highly, but they definitely fit the unhinged book theme of this video. First up is Pearl by Josh Malaman. And this is all about a psychopathic pig called Pearl who telepathically gets people to do very very unhinged things. So, this pig starts telepathically communicating with the characters in this book and well, almost forcing them to do some extremely violent things. There's a lot of murder, there's a lot of body horror, there's a lot of gore, not only does Pearl telepathically communicate with human beings, but he can also telepathically communicate with the other pigs, and then you get like the invasion of the pig. Honestly, it is one of the weirdest books I have ever read.

[00:34:34]I did really like it straight away. Like I said, I bloody love me an unhinged book. And it doesn't get much more unhinged than this, but it just went a little bit fever dreamy and chaotic for me. And I I don't know. I just struggle to keep track of the story. But this is a book that I have seen very good reviews for. I do just think Josh Malaman isn't the author for me personally. I love the concept of his books, but there's two books by him that I haven't quite enjoyed. this one and incidents around the house. But like I said, I know that other people have really, really enjoyed it and I thought I'd add it into this video anyway because it is a wild ride for sure. And last but not least, we have got Bunny by Mona Aad. And this is another book that is definitely a love it or hate it book.

[00:35:21]Do you know what though? I'm saying that and I honestly don't know whether I loved it or hated it. I don't think I'm contradicting myself. I honestly just don't know how I felt after reading this book. I actually in one of my posts, I've like done an Instagram post on this book before. I put this book is like being gaslit by a cult of rich girls who say the word bunny a lot. So, have I got the book with me? No, it's in my book room. This book, I honestly don't even know how to begin to describe what it's about. [laughter] Oh, it's very, very bizarre. And I can remember as I was reading it thinking, what the actual am I reading right now?

[00:36:04]We call them bunnies because that is what they call each other. Seriously, bunny. Now that is how the book is narrated as well. Like whatever the sentence is, bunny. Haha. Bunny. We don't do that. Bunny. It's literally the word bunny is in nearly every sentence.

[00:36:19]Samantha is an outsider in her small, highly selective program at Warren University. In fact, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort, a clique of unbearably twe rich girls who call each other bunny. So, this is where the cult vibes come in. But then, the bunnies issue her with an invitation, and Samantha finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door, across the threshold, and down their rabbit hole. Blending sharp satire with fairy tale horror, Bunny provides a hilarious look at the dark side of female friendship from one of fiction's most original voices. It's definitely original, but I just honestly don't ever know how to talk about this book when I speak about it in one of my videos. Did I like it? I honestly don't think I did. Did I hate it? I I honestly don't think I did. Can I tell you what it was about? Not really. But I don't know. I've seen so many good reviews for it. Some people absolutely love this book. And I just think maybe it was me.

[00:37:21]Maybe it's a me problem. Maybe this book just went completely over my head and I didn't get the satire. But then also, maybe I was just extremely distracted by how many times the word bunny came up in this book. So yeah. I mean, I don't know if I would actually recommend this book, but I've added it into the video anyway because it's definitely unhinged and definitely one of the weirdest books I've ever read.
