Added:[Music] hi guys today in this video we are going to look at the lewis structure for dichlorine monoxide it's a chemical formula of ocl2 and it is also written as cl2o it is an inorganic compound and to find out its lewis structure we are first going to look at the total number of valence electrons so oxygen has six valence electrons and each chlorine atom has seven valence electrons so when you calculate the total number of valence electrons we get 20 as a total number of it so um here the oxygen atom will take the central position because it is less electronegative than the chlorine atom here the oxygen atom will take the central position and the chlorine atoms will go on the outside so um for showing the chemical bonds we are going to place a pair of electrons between each chlorine and oxygen atom so we have used a 4 out of 20. we are going to use up other electrons by comparing the octets of chlorine first and then we will move to complete the octet of central atom so here we are placing six more electrons for chlorine so it has eight electrons in its outer shell we are going to repeat this process for the other chlorine atom as well now we are left with four uh valence electrons which we are going to place on oxygen atom so now here you can see that both these chlorine atoms have complete octets as they have eight valence electrons in its outer shell and even oxygen has a complete octet because it has eight valence electrons in its outer shell so this is the lewis structure for dichloride monoxide for more videos on lewis structure molecular geometry polarity and hybridization of the molecule make sure to subscribe our channel and thank you for watching [Music] you
