Is Desire Really Necessary?

[00:00:00]This is Rick Renner speaking from Sparkling Gems volume one for May the 25th. And today's gem is called it's wearisome to work with the dead. Ay, ay, ay, that is the truth. And our scripture is 1 Timothy 3:1 where Paul is telling Timothy how to choose leadership. And he says, "It's a true saying, if a man desires the office of a bishop," which really means if a person wants to be a leader, "he desires a good work." And here we find the first qualification to be a leader is desire. You've got to have desire. If you've ever worked with a desireless person, then you understand why it's important to find people with desire. When you have desire, you've got something in you motivating you to be more than you are. You're willing to learn, you're willing to be corrected.

[00:00:49]But when you're trying to work with someone who has no desire, uh, it's like working with the dead. You can't motivate them, you can't move them.

[00:00:59]And so Paul says, "When you're looking for somebody to be a leader," or if you want to be a leader yourself, it is essential that you have desire. It is very wearisome to work with the dead.

[00:01:10]So find somebody with desire and make sure you have desire, and desire is one of the foremost qualifications for God to choose you to do something great.
