The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established an evacuation framework to assist approximately 11,000 seafarers stranded in around 600 vessels within the Strait of Hormuz, utilizing two transit corridors: the northern route operated by Iran and the southern route assisted by Oman and the United States. The framework requires multilateral guarantees that vessels will not be targeted and that trade flow will continue, with the IMO coordinating with regional authorities including Iran, Oman, and the United States to ensure seafarer safety. The evacuation process has been temporarily paused following an incident where a vessel was hit during transit, and the IMO is working to obtain further guarantees before resuming operations.
