Apple Has BAD NEWS About iPhone 18...

In fact, it could end up getting cancelled, which I know sounds crazy, but this is coming from the guy that has always talked about Tim Cook leaving Apple, and people thought I was nuts. How'd that turn out? All kidding aside, there is a blockbuster lawsuit coming Apple's way that could seriously spell disaster for the iPhone. I I know on the surface this sounds ridiculous. The iPhone is one of the most popular devices on the planet. The iPhone 17, according to Apple, has been a shocking success. And it looks like this year Apple's finally going allin on a new strategy. looks super exciting, but at the same time, there is kind of a war going on behind the scenes, not just with Apple on the new CEO and the direction of how things are going to go, but you've also got one of Apple's biggest, most public partners just incredibly pissed off, for lack of a better word, because they feel like Apple bait and switch them and they might just spend billions of dollars to get back at them. And to make a long story very short, Apple intelligence has not just been an embarrassment for Apple and the bud of jokes and just a colossal failure thus far. It's also been a real big embarrassment for Apple's marquee partner, which if you forgot was OpenAI, the company behind Chat GPT. Because remember, you know, these days where there's 5 million AI companies coming online every couple of minutes, it seems like chat GPT was the thing. It was kind of the holy grail of AI and it was the system to beat and there was a lot of talk that Apple and Open AI could kind of combine together and join forces which got a lot of people really really excited because it was like the most advanced kind of most intelligent platform out there and if it could be built in your iPhone it would be a gamecher. So when Apple announced that partnership, it seemed like Apple Intelligence was destined to be just the winner and destroy the competition in every single way. But as we know, definitely didn't happen. Now, Apple will tell you they wanted to take their time with this. They wanted to focus on privacy and really make sure it was done right from day one. And that required them taking much longer than they originally thought to get things done.

[00:02:34]though, if you listen to some other sources, they'll tell you behind the scenes, the marketing people were the ones at Apple that basically created these uh demo videos of Apple Intelligence and what it could do. And the people that actually had to build it, the engineers, they had no idea what was actually happening. And they didn't even have anything close to what Apple was showing off as coming later on that year. Also, if you talk to uh some anonymous OpenAI uh executives that spoke to Bloomberg, they've got some pretty harsh words, basically saying that Apple kind of tricked them into jumping in and getting involved with this project that was a horrible failure for them. And that Apple, worse than that, didn't even try to put their best foot forward. I mean, some of the quotes from the article are crazy. like this one here. It it says, quote, "We have done everything from a product perspective," said an OpenAI executive who asked not to be identified. "They have not, and worse, they haven't even made an honest effort." And the more you kind of dig into the reporting here and the reason why there's any talk about a lawsuit, it's because OpenAI feel like Apple, they didn't hold up their end of the bargain. They went all in on helping them create this thing. And Apple not only kind of embarrassed them, but according to them, they didn't even try to make it right and deliver on the promise, which was that they were going to be giving them a bunch of new users and giving them access to all these new people. Basically, Apple pitched it to them like the Google deal, which is, you know, Google is the default on Apple devices. It brings in Google a lot of users. It's a great prestigious thing.

[00:04:09]That's why Chacht and Siri is going to be a big thing. Long story short, that was wrong on many, many fronts. Of course, one of the other reasons why this partnership turned sour was Apple's aggressive stance on privacy and OpenAI taking a different approach. And I I'll come back to the drama between these two companies in a moment. And now, fast forward to where we are these days. Now we're hearing that Apple is kind of partnering with other companies and letting people swap in new brains and OpenAI is so upset that they are actually looking at taking legal action with Apple, which again kind of sounds ridiculous. You would assume something like this would just be settled. Apple would pay them some money to go away until you kind of know about the backstory about who's in this game and how much they've got to lose.

[00:05:57]Remember that OpenAI is still an enormous company with a war chest of billions of billions of dollars. And if they wanted to prove a point and take a new young CEO and take him through the ringer and chew him out for doing something wrong with this company, this would be a great example for them to do that. I know John Turnis wasn't exactly involved with this, but as the new face of Apple come September, uh he's going to have to kind of take responsibility for this and OpenAI can sure very much publicly embarrass him. The other reason they'd want to do this is because it could kind of keep Apple tied up both in terms of cost and resources from developing any kind of competing AI solution because it's still kind of at the end of the day a competitor to OpenAI unless they're like the default.

[00:06:43]And then also remember that OpenAI might also soon become Apple's competitor as we're hearing rumors that they're not only looking to make their own new wearable AI device like Apple, but also that they might be making their own version of a smartphone. And while this simply could just end in like a settlement and Apple paying them off and we never hear about it again, if OpenAI wanted to make a statement, kind of like the very public Samsung versus Apple uh trial or the uh Epic Games Fortnite lawsuit with Apple, if they really wanted to make this public and really show how Apple cannot be the good guy, this would be a way for them to do that.

[00:07:21]And doing this would not only hamper Apple's reputation and take away from their war chest and their resources, but it could stop them from implementing new features on the iPhone or new software features and really kind of dramatically alter the road map, which again sounds crazy until you remember that there was that Masimo patent lawsuit that actually forced Apple to stop selling briefly and then remove uh some Apple Watch features that were kind of flagship and hallmark.

[00:07:50]to some of the new watches because of a legal issue. So, as crazy as it sounds, it wouldn't be the first time this has happened and really does put the iPhone in a very uh kind of uh fragile situation that could uh lead to a lot of not good things if they do actually open AAI that is go down this very ugly path.
