Lulutho Peanuts gets DRAGGED for "Disrespecting" the Xhosa Culture
Added:Peanuts, peanuts, yeah. We going to defend you until when? We are going to defend you until when?
So, if you've been wondering where Peanuts has been, it's because he disappeared from social media after going to initiation school.
Well, he's officially back on the socials. But instead of people welcoming him back, many are [music] upset because he's already posting videos of himself dancing. Now, for those of you who may not know, initiation guys is a process where a boy goes to the mountain and returns as a man. Now, there is also a medical route where the same surgical procedure is done in a hospital instead of through the traditional cultural process.
Now, well, Peanuts didn't choose the medical route. He chose the cultural route. We know this because he's wearing initiation attire. It's not the norm for someone who has the procedure done in a hospital to come [music] back wearing those traditional clothes. Now, after returning, Peanuts posted several videos of himself dancing, and people felt that that was a such disrespect [music] to the Xhosa culture. It's almost like he couldn't wait to get back on social media. Now guys, while you are still wearing that um attire, there are certain customs that are expected [music] to be followed. According to many people familiar with the tradition, you are not supposed to do certain things. For example, you are expected not to look back.
Not to tilt your head up and to keep your head lowered as a sign of respect for the attire and the cultural [music] process.
Those are just a few of the customs.
There are so many, many, many more. Now, because of this, many people felt that Peanuts' videos were disrespectful, [music] while others had different opinions.
These are some of the comments he received.
Now, most of his comments were written in Xhosa, but don't worry, I got you. I will translate. [music] Uh the first comment says, "Wulu gelepi gwedini uyalungu bani?" Which translates to, "Where did you do this [music] and who are the people guiding you?" Now guys, when someone calls you gwedini, they are basically still referring to you as a boy rather than acknowledging you as a man. So, this comment wasn't just asking a question, it was also criticizing him. Another comment says, "Ayigcalwa ngumninawa asijayivingazo."
Which means, "No, brother, we don't dance while wearing the attire." A lot of people were basically calling him out. Many saying that he's not special and that these cultural customs have been followed for generations and that they not going to change just because of him. Others, however, thought these videos had to be a prank because they couldn't believe someone would actually do that while still wearing the attire.
Now guys, at the end of the day, this is about more than just a few dance videos.
Like for many people, initiation is a cultural tradition that carries deep meaning, responsibility, and respect.
That's why so many people reacted so strongly. So, many people believe that Peanut is turning something they believe should be treated with dignity into social media content and aesthetics. So, what do you guys think? Do you guys think that Peanut crossed the line or I don't know, man.
But me now, I will see you on the next one. Bye-bye.
