Dr. Martin Sweatman from the University of Edinburgh discovered that V-shaped inscriptions at Göbekli Tepe, an ancient temple complex in Turkey dating back 13,000 years, represent humanity's first calendar—a lunar-solar system combining 12 lunar months plus 11 additional days to track astronomical events, including a comet impact dated to 10,850 BC that may have triggered a 1,200-year ice age and contributed to the rise of civilization.

Göbekli Tepe Pushes Back the Origins of Ancient KnowledgeAdded:
A researcher from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland recently discovered what he believes to be humanity's first calendar. It comes from the ancient site of Gobiclye, an old complex of enclosures resembling temples and dwellings, which is among the oldest known archaeological remains in human history.
This researcher, Dr. Martin Swatman stated in his study that the V-shaped inscriptions found at Gobecape on what is believed to be a luna solar calendar that combined the movements of the moon and the sun recorded a major astronomical event that had a huge impact on Earth, turning an ancient pillar at the site into an ancient memorial.
As always, you can find the full study in the video description.
Dr. Swatman stated that the carvings at the Gobicly Teepe complex would also tell the story and document the date when fragments of comet struck the Earth about 13,000 years ago. The impact of the comet, which recent research has dated to the year 10,850 BC, has long been a source of disagreement between academics and researchers. This is not the first time that Dr. Swatman has managed to link the comet impact to the site in Turkey.
Back in 2017, he had already linked the two through an academic article in which he claimed that the carvings at Gobecepe preserved on the site's pillars were remnants of the site's use as an astronomical observatory.
At the time, many unconvinced archaeologists working at Gobecepe had disputed this finding. Indeed, the doctor had wondered if these marks had a deeper meaning and had received criticism accusing him of being obsessed with the idea that there must necessarily be a secret, a hidden code that must and can be decoded. Whereas in reality, according to archaeologists, it would simply be humans from the past living their daily lives. Dr. Swatman stated that his recent discovery, according to which one of the pillars also represented a luna calendar marking the day of the comet impact, would be consistent with his previous research.
We can be sure that this is a date. He said the comet impact ushered in a 1200year ice age and led to the extinction of many large animals. For humans, the comet probably also brought changes in lifestyle and agriculture, which contributed to the rise of civilization as we know it. Although Dr. Swatman had studied the symbols at the ancient Turkish site for a long time, this recent breakthrough came in the form of a clue when someone emailed him saying that the V-shaped symbols on one of the pillars at Gobicepe could be interpreted as marks of a lunar cycle. I hadn't noticed that myself before, he said. Yet, I had always wondered what those boxshaped and V-shaped symbols could mean. According to his research, each V-shaped symbol could actually represent a day. This interpretation allowed researchers to count a solar calendar of 365 days on one of the pillars, made up of 12 lunar months, plus 11 additional days. The last V on the pillar is represented by a V worn around the neck by a beast resembling a bird which is supposed to represent the constellation Virgo, the symbol of the summer solstice at that time. That's what the study concludes. In any case, also other statues nearby, possibly representing deities were found with similar inscriptions.
After interpreting the V-shaped symbols, the engravings therefore suggest that ancient peoples were able to record their observations of the sun, the moon, and the constellations in the form of a solar calendar created to track time and mark the changing of the seasons.
Imagining what it looked like when ancient humans carved these inscriptions onto the pillars will probably always be impossible for us people of the 20th century. But it could tell us a lot about these people whose knowledge and understanding of the universe were already highly developed considering all the archaeological remains that can be found at the site of Gobeclete.
That's it my friends. That's all for today. Thank you so much for watching this video. I hope you enjoyed it and until we meet again on the channel for more fun. As always, take care of yourselves and above all don't forget to keep the passion alive. Ciao.
