The Korowai tribe, living in the rainforests of Papua, Indonesia, have built the world's tallest treehouses (30-50 meters high) as a spiritual refuge from evil spirits called 'khakhua' that they believe roam the ground at night, demonstrating how cultural beliefs can shape unique architectural adaptations.

Would You Survive a Night Here? (Korowai Treehouse) #tribe #korowai #treehouseAjouté :
Imagine living your entire life on a tree 30 to 50 m above the ground. [music] Would you believe it? In the 21st century, there still exists a tribe [music] where an entire community lives their whole lives a top the tallest trees on the planet.
>> [music] >> Meet the Cororowai, also known as the tree people tribe. Hiding deep in the impenetrable jungles of southeast Papua, Indonesia.
These aren't ordinary tree [music] houses. They hold the Guinness World Record for the tallest tree houses. Some reach 30 m [music] and up to 50 m during times of tribal war.
But why live so high? Not [music] just to avoid wild animals or floods. There's a terrifying spiritual reason.
The Korowai believe that when night falls, evil spirits and witches called kahua roam the ground. The only way to escape them is to live up high where those dark forces cannot reach.
They were so isolated that they only learned about the outside world in the 1970s.
They hunt, gather, and were once known for practicing [music] cannibalism to punish supposed witches within the tribe.
A world completely separate from our own right here on the same planet. Would you have the courage to spend a single night alone [music] in that house deep in the jungle?
