China's robotics industry is rapidly advancing through a combination of manufacturing capabilities, supply chain efficiency, and hardware iteration speed, as demonstrated by companies like Unitree, which plans to ship 20,000 humanoid robots in 2026, signaling a shift from futuristic concepts to practical industrial applications.

China’s “Pacific Rim” Robot Is REAL NowHinzugefügt:
China's robot race just got a lot crazier. Unitree, one of China's fastest [music] growing robotics companies, just unveiled a giant human-piloted mega robot called the GD01. [music] And honestly, it looks like something straight out of science fiction. This robot is nearly 3 [music] m tall, weighs around 500 kg, can walk, crawl, and smash through walls, and even operate [music] with a human inside, like the Iron Man.
And here's the crazy part. The starting price is around 550 to 650,000 US dollars. And a lot of people online are calling it China's Pacific Rim moment.
But I think [music] this is about something bigger than just spectacle.
Because what's happening in China right now is not just one viral robot. It's an entire [music] robotics ecosystem moving extremely fast.
Unitree is an example. It plans to ship up to 20,000 humanoid robots in 2026, almost [music] four times more than last year. And unlike many Western robotic companies, China's advantage is increasingly [music] about manufacturing, supply chains, hardware iteration, and speed. And what's interesting is that, you know, GD01 may not even be the most important part. We all know that for humanoid robotics to really enter [music] daily life and become useful, it will still take 5 to 10 years. But even if this particular robot is [music] partly for publicity, China is rapidly normalizing robots in public life. From robot kung fu performances on national TV >> [music] >> to humanoids in factories, logistics, and public spaces, robots are becoming visible everywhere. And for a long time, humanoid robots felt futuristic. And now they feel industrial, and maybe soon [music] ordinary. So, what do you think?
Would you want a humanoid robot in your daily life? Tell me about it. I'm Carol Yu, working on the front [music] lines of Shenzhen's tech ecosystem. This is Inside China Tech.
