The Epic of Gilgamesh, discovered in Ashurbanipal's Library of Nineveh, contains a flood story written approximately 1,000 years before the earliest known biblical version, demonstrating that ancient Mesopotamian literature predates and influenced later flood narratives.

The Bible’s Flood Story Wasn't the First | #LibraryOfNineveh #Ashurbanipal #EpicOfGilgamesh追加:
2,700 years ago, a king decided to collect every book on Earth.
Not some books, every book.
He sent agents across the ancient world with one instruction, find every clay tablet that exists and bring it back.
His name was Ashurbanipal, king of the Assyrian Empire. He built a library of 30,000 clay tablets in his palace in Nineveh, the first systematically assembled library in human history.
His agents copied tablets from Babylonian temples, private collections, and royal archives across two continents.
Some tablets were voluntarily donated, some were not.
Every subject known to the ancient world, medicine, astronomy, law, history, mathematics, literature, was in this building.
Among those 30,000 tablets was a story, >> [music] >> an epic poem called Gilgamesh.
And inside that poem, a flood story.
A god warns one man, "Build a great boat. Bring every animal aboard." The flood comes. The water covers the Earth.
A bird is released. The boat rests on a mountain.
This story was written 1,000 years before the earliest known biblical version of the flood. 1,000 years.
In 1872, [music] a British Museum scholar named George Smith was translating a tablet from the Nineveh collection. He read the flood passage. He stood up from his desk. He ran around the room. He started taking off his clothing. His colleagues stopped him.
He said later that he felt as if the ground had shifted under his entire understanding of human history.
It had.
The tablets are in the British Museum today.
The flood story is still there, still in the clay, still 4,000 years old, and still older than the story you know.
Subscribe Dark Verity the history they buried as footnote.
