Meaningful difficulty requires a consistent logic that rewards mastery, whereas bugs merely introduce an artificial friction that undermines strategic agency. This critique correctly identifies that a game's depth is lost when players are forced to fight the engine instead of the enemy.

The Codex Does Not Support This Stratagem | Space Marine 2
Added:Brothers, we need to have a conversation. Now, if you've been watching my channel for any amount of time, you know that I absolutely love Space Marine 2. I've built this entire channel around this game because I genuinely believe it's one of the best Warhammer 40K games we've ever had. I love the combat, I love the teamwork, and most of all, I love the challenge. Every single week, I look forward to the hard strategem. I make a guide. I haven't missed a single week. Week 46, I have not missed a single week. We've been able to beat it every single week. I jump in with you guys on stream, or if I do it solo, off stream, doesn't matter. We figure it out, and we get it done.
And guys, like I mentioned, we are on week 46, and I haven't missed a single one, and I hope this will not be the first week, all right?
>> [snorts] >> So, when I say, you know, this week's challenge has a serious problem, understand that this isn't coming from somebody who just got frustrated after losing a couple of matches. It's coming from someone who genuinely loves difficult content, all right? I don't want the game to be easier. I want it to be fair, and unfortunately, I think this week's hard strategem is not that.
Now, the weekly looks amazing on paper, and, you know, let's talk about the modifiers because honestly, like at first glance, okay, I like the the idea behind them, right? Like the first battlefield condition gives you a 75% range damage bonus when you're more than 10 m away from enemies, and that's fine, right? There's a really interesting mechanic because it changes the way you approach combat, right? Like suddenly, weapons you normally wouldn't use become incredibly powerful, and positioning becomes much more important. And then we have that periodic warp storm. Again, it is what it is. I find it pretty damn annoying, but at least it's not bugged.
It keeps everyone moving and stops you from getting too comfortable. But then then we get the piece de resistance, the the we get squad unity, all right? And that's where everything starts falling apart. And guys, squad unity again, it's a great idea on paper. Like I I I get it, right? I actually think squad unity could be a cool battlefield condition.
If it worked. And the concept fits Warhammer perfectly, right? Your space marines, you're you're your battle brothers. You should be fighting shoulder to shoulder. The modifier is supposed to reward teamwork by encouraging everyone to stay together. I love that idea.
Honestly, it it's it could be a really cool concept. And the problem isn't the idea. The problem is that the mechanic itself is completely completely bugged and broken.
And here's what's happening, guys. If you watch my stream, go to my last live stream. It's just playing with viewers. And we spent nearly 3 hours trying to beat this damn hard strategem. I played with countless battle brothers, battle brothers that I know are, you know, have a red cape, a black cape. I know are veteran battle brothers. And we could still we still couldn't get it done. I think we have attempted it at least 10 times, maybe even more. And you know, these aren't like I mentioned, these are not random players, right? I know these guys are incredibly skilled. Um you know, players who have beaten every difficulty challenge this game has thrown at them. Absolute hard siege mode, hard strategems. Players who understand positioning, communication, teamwork. Like we all understood the assignment. And despite all of that, we kept failing. Not because we were you know, playing playing poorly. None of us were playing poorly. Not because we weren't following the mechanics that were laid out for us, but because the mechanics themselves simply stopped working. And it doesn't make sense to me. And this is where the rant kind of begins.
Everything, and I mean everything, guys, was broken in this week's strategem. The entire point of squad unity is that if you stay close to your teammates, you'll continue receiving armor restoration and contested health.
Uh things like Invigorating Icon will work. Medkits will work. Restorative Stims will work.
>> [snorts] >> Um Unmatched Zeal, Adrenaline Rush on Vanguard, all those perks will work.
Purification on Sniper. So that's exactly what we did. We stayed together.
We were practically standing on top of each other, yet somehow nothing worked.
We would try all the the different various bugs, uh try leaving the zone, coming back in, trying it multiple times, literally being shoulder to shoulder. Nothing worked. Sometimes it would work, yeah, but most of the time it it it wouldn't.
Medkits, nothing. Bulwark's Banner, nothing. Restorative Stims, no.
Contested Health, no. Um Adrenaline Rush, no. Unmatched Zeal did work sometimes, but then sometimes it wouldn't. It was completely inconsistent. And there were moments where I'd execute an enemy while standing right beside both my teammates, playing on a Vanguard with Adrenaline Rush, with Unmatched Zeal, and I would not get my health back.
Then 5 minutes later, I do the exact same thing and suddenly it worked.
And, you know, there was absolutely no consistency, no logic, no explanation.
Sometimes, you know, certain perks would activate, sometimes it wouldn't. And at one point, we honestly stopped trying to understand the mechanics because there was nothing left to understand. It felt completely random. We just thought, "Okay, healing's not going to be happening, so that's that's just that, right?" And, you know, that's not difficulty, and this is where I think it's really important to make a distinction. Like, there is a huge difference between something being difficult, which I am more than happy with, right? I love difficult game modes. I love it, right? It brings a level of, you know, gratification when you beat it. And then there's a difference between that and something being broken, and those aren't the same thing, brothers. Like, if Sabre gave us more enemies, great. If bosses had more health, fantastic. If enemies hit harder, which they did. Guys, if you play this stratagem, it seems like you're full health at one moment and a little a little pop of a of a of a majoris chaos spawn and your whole health is low. So, I don't know. I think there's a hidden battlefield condition they didn't tell us, but that's for another topic, you know. But I'm all for it. Bring it on. Even all that I'll I'll take. I genuinely enjoy overcoming difficult content. But when your survival depends on mechanics that randomly decide whether or not they're going to function, that's not difficulty anymore.
That's just BS. That's frustration.
That's That's bugged. And you can't strategize around randomness. You can't improve if the rules change every few minutes. You can't outplay a bug. And the most confusing part here, brothers, is that >> [snorts] >> it What generally confuses me is this bug isn't new. Like, players have been talking steady about squad unity and its opposite modifier like stay apart or whatever it's called for quite a while now, right?
You know, it's been discussed on Reddit.
It's It's been reported on official Focus bug tracker. Like, it's been talked about in Discord communities.
Been talked about in multiple, you know, content creators' channels.
People have been saying the same thing over and over again. And sometimes healing simply stops working. And it's especially frustrating in siege mode, but that's for another topic as well.
Sometimes the modifier thinks you're separated even when you're standing beside your battle brother. And sometimes the only way to temporarily fix it is to deliberately move apart and regroup. Sometimes that works, and even sometimes that doesn't work, right? And so if this has been a known issue, why was it included in this week's hard strategem? And that's the question I can't answer, brother.
Uh somebody had to build this week's challenge, right? Somebody builds these strategems, and somebody had to approve it, and somebody had to test it. And did no one notice? Or was it simply overlooked? Because the community certainly noticed, and we've been talking about that for a quite a while now. So it doesn't make sense to me.
Now, brothers, I'm Obviously this is a rant, but at the end of the day, I'm not angry.
It It's a video game, right? It's just a little disappointing, you know, as a as a as a guy that works all day and comes home, just wants to freaking play some Space Marine 2.
It It's a little frustrating, right? And and it's disappointing, right? And I know some people are going to watch this and immediately think, you know, "Mass just salty because he couldn't beat it."
Partly, yeah, but if you've watched this channel for any length of time, like you know that's not who I am, guys. I love I'm okay with losing. I love losing.
It's part of the fun, right? Honestly, it doesn't bother me. It When it When it's because I made mistakes, it's fine, right? That's how you improve. That's how you learn, right? But losing because the game decides your banner isn't going to work, or your medkit isn't going to heal you when it should, that's different, and that's not something I can, you know, improve on. That's something the game has to improve.
Because I love this game, and I really want Saber to hear this part. Like this video isn't made because I hate the game. It's actually the complete opposite. If I hated this game, I would just delete it and never play it again.
I love this game. I've spent a hundred hundreds of hours, I think we're in the thousands now, playing it. Like guys, I've made guides every single week, covered topics, news, builds. I've recommended it to countless people. I've built this community around Space Marine 2 because I genuinely believe it's something special and that's exactly why I think it's important to speak up when something isn't working. Constructive criticism isn't hate, it's caring enough to want something you love to be even better. And my hope going forward and what I'd love to see is actually pretty simple. If a Battlefield condition is known to have issues, temporarily remove it from the weekly hard strategem rotation until it's fixed. It's that simple. That's it. Bring it back once it's functioning properly. Same thing for for Siege Mode atonements. Because squad unity isn't a bad idea. Like in fact, I think it could be a cool, you know, Battlefield condition. It just needs to work consistently. And here are my final thoughts, brothers. I'm not giving up. Week 46 isn't over. I still got lots of time.
I've beaten it every single week. Look for the video that finally says the title's going to be I already have the title for it, brothers. We did it, brothers. Dot dot dot. That's going to be the title. Look for that, all right?
And hopefully we'll do it. And hopefully Sabre acknowledges the issue and hopefully this video starts a constructive discussion instead of just another argument because at the end of the day, I think everybody wants the same thing. We all want Space Marine 2 to be the best game it could possibly be. So let me know, brothers, down below. Have you beaten this week's hard strategem? Has squad unity been causing the same issues for you? Let me know your thoughts below. I'd genuinely love to hear what you think. And for that, guys, if you made it up to this point, thank you so much for watching. Don't forget to like. Don't forget to subscribe and I'll see you in the next one, guys.
