Quantum computing poses a significant threat to Bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies by 2030, not because of technical limitations but due to the extreme coordination challenge required to migrate to post-quantum cryptography, which demands simultaneous updates across all users, exchanges, custodians, and miners—unlike centralized systems like banking or military that can be updated through top-down command.

Bitcoin in trouble in 2030! Here's the reason why.Added:
So, the quantum fear has come up again.
And they're saying that quantum could destroy Bitcoin by 2030.
Now, several of you have said, well, you know, if quantum can destroy Bitcoin, it can destroy everything else. And Bitcoin is not on the list like banks, military, everything else.
But, you know, people bring up a good point. All that stuff is very centralized and can be updated therefore much easily much more easily. Now, it take them some time, but they could shut some of it down and then update it through a central command and control, whether it's banking, military, government, or whatever, cuz that's not decentralized at all. Bitcoin is decentralized and would actually be much much harder to update. So, the big problem for Bitcoin is migrating Bitcoin to post-quantum cryptography. And that requires every user, exchange, custodian, miner to move simultaneously.
Well, maybe not simultaneously, but within a short amount of time, otherwise there will be incompatibilities. Now, I'm not really sure if that's possible cuz, you know, with Taproot, we've been stuck on that for like a long time. But maybe with something as maybe like with something as the threat as quantum, people will act differently. At least I'm hoping with something as big as quantum, people will act differently cuz if people don't act differently, we could be in for a lot of pain. And I don't like pain cuz pain generally sucks. Now, I don't have much Bitcoin myself. I have a little bit. But um, you know, I do have a lot of other coins and they might have this problem as well. But obviously, the hackers or the attackers would rather break the Bitcoin wallet. And quantum is actually, you know, speeding up. You know, like we've seen like Google make several breakthroughs. Who knows where they can be in four more years. So, the problem for Bitcoin updating and getting out of this is not so much technical. I do think we definitely have the technical expertise to update Bitcoin to post quantum. It's more coordination, and that's one of the reasons why cryp why Bitcoin will find it much much harder update and will be much more vulnerable than maybe even banking and military systems cuz all it takes is like one or two guys at the top to be like, "Hey, you know what? We're updating the banking system. We're updating the military system because there's a big threat." Whereas Bitcoin, you got to get all the validators, all the miners, the users, and the exchanges to do it in short order. And that kind of coordination may actually not be as easy as just getting like supreme commander to say like, "You know what?
Let's update our missile systems." Cuz I'm sure like I'm sure that's a priority and many of these legacy systems like banking, military are already sort of being updated uh in that like, you know, for that type of thing. Whereas Bitcoin, like, you know, if it's taking us forever to like update Taproot, it might take us years to update for quantum. And by that time it might actually be too late. So, there is some fear of that and there's like rightfully fear of that because of the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and crypto. And Bitcoin's been adopted by a lot of people, has a lot of addresses.
It's pretty much like worldwide at this point. So, it is really like something that we This is something that we have to keep track of and something that we actually have to kind of like look out for um because it is harder to update Bitcoin to where it's like quantum resistant. And um Yeah, to to We have to update Bitcoin to where it's actually quantum resistant, and uh it's much harder to do that. So, they better get it started now cuz I think we have like some idea of how to become quantum resistant. So, they need to start updating if the the if the uh quantum can actually solve the problem by 2030 because I'm sure like with trillions of dollars on the line, someone's going to find an incentive and it could destroy the entire crypto market if we don't actually do this.
