Lowe correctly identifies that institutional secrecy is the primary driver of public distrust and misinformation. Restoring social stability requires the government to prioritize hard facts over the strategic management of public perception.

We cannot go on like thisAdded:
I'm sure a great many of you woke up this morning, as I did, to the horrific footage out of Northern Ireland, which is of course part of the United Kingdom, with a sense of shock, disgust, and horror, fear, rage perhaps, and perhaps a sense of injustice in the sense that this sort of thing appears to be happening with increased frequency in recent months and years.
and the sense that this government and perhaps previous governments just simply have not done nearly enough to prevent these sort of things from happening and when they do happen that there is a sense that information is withheld from us and there's been a wide criticism of how the BBC reported this incident downplaying it to some degree and now I'm not going to comment too specifically ally you understand for obvious reasons and I would urge you not to either certainly not to speculate and sort of spread information that you've heard from various sources that may not be official sources because if you did that I fear that we have reached a a point where we have a government that at least has expressed an interest and a pattern of behavior that is equally interested in going after people who do spread misinformation online, even if it's not knowingly misinformation, but they will pursue those people for spreading that information as as equally as they will pursue those who commit these horrendous acts.
But what I suggest is this. we we really do need to have a level of transparency and that is why uh I will share with you only official sources and a couple of requests from Rupert Low here. Uh first of all, this one request from Rupert Low. This was first thing this morning at 7:42 a.m. He says he's written to the prime minister and says, "We've all seen the sickening video from Belfast.
Full details of this savage's nationality, immigration status, and religion must be made available to the public as a matter of urgency. The British people need to know the full truth now, he says. And I absolutely agree with that. And I agree with it for for very good reasons. Because whilst we do have rules of contempt of court, that being if you say something that could seriously prejudice any live proceedings, which of course this is, then you may be liable for contempt of court. And it is a strict liability uh publication rule. But at the same time that in itself to me supports the justification for the state to provide any and all of the details that are available as they unfold because that will in itself stop speculation. It will stop the spread of misinformation and if misinformation is uh disseminated it's easily corrected.
unironically on X with community notes. I say unironically because many of the government's own ministers and other MPs are frequently community noted to correct what they've said. I've mentioned one or two recently. Bridget Phillipsson using statistics in in a way that doesn't really reflect what I would call a a a very open and frank and honest account of what's really happening and the net figures that she quoted via V teachers being being accurate because there are in fact 1,900 fewer teachers, not 4,600 more. But we digress. And so with this information very easily and readily corrected, community noted and any any misinformation or disinformation corrected very quickly, I think the state should step in and and tell us everything that they know as and when they know it. And to that end, uh, Rert Lu has tabled a motion in Parliament and says that he's tabled a motion in parliament calling on the government to urgently release all relevant information about the arrested Sudin man, immigration history, religion, asylum status, criminal record. All MPs have been invited to sign to tell the British people the truth. And this is the motion so tabled that this house expresses its horror at the appalling attempted beheading in Belfast and calls on the government, the home office, and the relevant authorities to urgently release at the earliest opportunity all relevant information concerning the suspect, including religion, immigration status, asylum status, and any previous criminal history in the interests of transparency and public confidence.
And that is presented to you by me as the motion so tabled in parliament by Rert Low. That is obviously free political discussion that we are entitled to. Rupert Low is an MP after all. We have some footage from a senior police officer giving us some information about this.
Again, I'm relying on official sources here and there are two very short clips.
Allow me to play you those. Um, the investigation is at early stages. Um, as I've said already, we're ruling out a terrorist motivation at this stage. Um, however, our minds remain open to the various possibilities as to what the motivation is uh behind this. Um we will of course as we move ahead be working with uh all of those who might be able to provide us further information and context as why uh what happened last night. Um that is one short clip and there is another with a question in relation to the motivation which was addressed in this short portion here.
>> Yeah, I'm aware of speculation in relation to um the suspect's immigration status. Uh this morning I've been talking to colleagues from the home office whose role it is to manage the immigration status of individuals. Um I can confirm my understanding is that the individual was given leave to stay or remain sorry in Northern Ireland but I know that colleagues in the home office will be confirming the exact details of the status over the coming days. So you'll hear more from over the coming hours. You'll hear more for them u this afternoon I hope.
So it appears from these clips that they are beginning to be a little bit more transparent, provide details and so on, which I think is right because as I said, I think that will stem and reduce the spread of misinformation, guess work, patchy work and so on. And I do firmly believe that the British public are entitled to as much of the information as possible because this is a real and live situation. Obviously within the bounds of what they can sensibly release. If there is something that is absolutely crucial that should not be in the public domain, that might be one thing, but that would usually lead to ongoing investigations or undetermined facts and events or links or things of that nature that still need to be thoroughly investigated. The questions that I might raise without drawing any answers might be that you know how did they reach the conclusion that they've ruled out a terror motivation at this stage of course that being as in a terror motivation being that which is linked to furthering an ideology for example and things of that nature. The questions there I think remain unanswered and and I think we the public would be helped greatly by a little bit more information as to how and why those conclusions have been reached thus far. Although it may not be a full conclusion, as he said, he's remaining open to the ideas and to further information, which is of course the the appropriate response here. And I think this is a sensible way forward and I hope that we will see more information and I hope that many MPs will sign Rupert Low's tabled motion here to provide the public with this information. There is also a video released on YouTube by Rupert Low. I will link that below. Feel free to go and watch that as well. What we do know is that the suspect's been taken into custody. The victim has suffered significant injuries to his face, neck, and back in what the police called a brutal attack. He's being treated in hospital. And that the video, which I'll not show here, you can if you want to see the video, you can find it elsewhere. That is not something I want to show on my channel and I think not what you come to my channel for. But the video does show three people, apparently local men, intervening. One hitting the attacker with a wooden hurling stick as others try to force him off by kicking him and trying to get him to release the victim. And as you heard, Assistant Chief Constable Henderson said that the individual was given leave to remain in Northern Ireland, but that he expects the Home Office to confirm further details. And now a few questions people have raised on you know how they can defend others and so on. Now speaking very generally you understand and not as legal advice but um some people do often ask about the level of force you are permitted to use to defend yourself or another in certain situations. Now, not that I encourage um violence or anything of the sort, but if it's absolutely necessary, which is the test for self-defense, then on a subjective test, if it is necessary to use force, then you can do so. And then that force must be objectively proportionate and justified. But that does go all the way up to lethal force. If you genuinely believe someone's life is at risk, then the force that you can use would be proportionate to the incident that is happening there and then. But it has to be proportionate force based on what you subjectively believe and genuinely believe is happening at that time. So, like I said, I do hope that the government now sees reason and will share information as this unfolds and as they learn more because that is what the British public deserve at the very very least. I think people deserve to know the truth and we also deserve to know what they will actually do not just to you know respond and tolerate as the phrase has has been used but actually to prevent these things from happening. We need actual action by the government to prevent these things from happening. But as for what they do and how they decide that that is for government to decide.
That is obviously nothing we can do. All we can do is express our uh frustration and discontentment with the way that this country is evolving over recent months and years and hope that they actually do something about it. So we need more MPs with the determination and the courage of Rert Low MP to force government to not just release the information but also to take active steps in preventative measures to keep everybody safe. So with that, be careful what you post online. Don't share any false information only from trusted sources such as the police or from reputable news sources that say where they've got the information confirmed from. and so on. So with that, thank you for watching uh and I will see you in the next
