Look, I was uh driving around LA yesterday and um I don't know if you guys know this who are not in LA, gas prices are $7 a gallon.
$7.20 a gallon. Now, granted, I was in Hollywood, whatever. But, average prices here in California are like $6 a gallon.
Cities like Los Angeles quite truly cannot like they cannot work if we have this expensive of gasoline, right? Which is sort of leading me to a broader point, but hang on.
Because also, gas prices are the reason that flights are surging in cost.
Between 2025 and 2026, the average US fare for domestic flights um is just through the freaking roof.
Um and Spirit Airlines is no longer. So, the last place you could probably get a cheap ticket, Spirit, as much as we wanted to make fun of it, that's all gone belly up. Um and recently in court papers, they say they were forced to ground their fleet because the quote recent geopolitical events resulted in a massive and sustained increase in fuel prices. Yes, all of this stems from not just the moral atrocity of the war in Iran and of course the war in Lebanon and the war on the Palestinian people, but the economic atrocity that is coming on the back of this war.
>> [snorts] >> And if you're wondering, yeah, California gas prices are way higher uh because actually we do rely on oil shipments from the Strait of Hormuz despite Pete Hegseth saying, you know, we don't need this. We don't We don't need this oil. Okay. Okay, buddy, then why am I paying $7 a gallon at the pump?
Um California receives roughly 30% of its foreign crude oil from the Persian Gulf.
Um and basically the we got like the last shipment of oil from the Gulf like this week.

>> [gasps] >> So, um according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, quote, it would probably lead to gasoline that rises from $6.50 to $7 a gallon, De Haan said, and it could lead diesel that is approaching 850 or $9, and it could be restrictive for some airlines. So, he's talking about the fact that this last we got this last oil tanker, 2 million uh barrels of oil. And honestly, at this point, I have like Trump and this administration doesn't give a [ __ ] about California. You think they give a [ __ ] They love that it's way more expensive in a blue state to drive a car.
Which kind of brings me to my point.
What the hell are we doing still flying and driving cars? We have been boxed into this situation by our reaction not reactionary our reactionary but our retrograde ass country, our so-called first world nation that cannot for the life of it have a working rail system.
Here in the state of California, Governor Gavin Newsom, he's trying to run for higher office. There still isn't a completed train that goes from San Francisco to Los Angeles, right? Not only are we talking about the economic impact, how expensive it is to fly to fly, and now of course Delta's like, "Sorry, you don't get water." Delta Delta needs to give its CEO a pay raise.
So, no snacks.
But again, let's talk about the climate impact of all of this. Have we not learned our lesson about fossil fuels, about wars for oil, about dying for wars for oil, about sending our country into the depths of economic depression because of wars for oil?
Meanwhile, China's over here crushing it on renewables. They're investing in solar and wind. They are absolutely crushing it and honestly, good for them.
Good for the rising hegemon to actually best the current hegemon not through militarism, right? Not even through extractive capitalism, but through renewable energies. God bless you, China. Good for you. We deserve that, okay? We absolutely But again, this impacts poor people, working people, and normal people much more than the rich. So, here we are.
Here we are eating the cost of this war again, politically, morally, environmentally, and economically. And I'm so sick of it and I'm so sick of there never actually being a politician that can state like state with their full chest that this is the problem that it is.
Meanwhile, Scott Bessent is claiming that if Spirit Airlines had been allowed to merge with JetBlue, they would have been more resilient.
Lol.
Yes, mergers always have led to a more resilient economy. It's great.
