In the music industry, winning an Artist of the Year award requires not only exceptional talent but also strategic campaign management, consistent industry engagement, and effective public relations efforts; artists who actively promote their work, maintain strong team support, and engage with both traditional and social media platforms are more likely to succeed in such competitive categories.

Showbiz Review: 27th TGMA ReviewAdded:
Sacrifice everything. His talent, his time, his resources.
Congratulations to you Black >> winning the ultimate CJ artist of the year 2026.
>> Congratulations stand for my liberty of the year.
>> Yes sir.
>> In the name of the true and living God, the most merciful, the most compassionate. We are artists of the year. Again, thank you so much TGMA.
Thank you. First of all, thank you to Guinness for the 100K and the listening for the awards. That thing we for the family right now. So the 100k we want the 100k for AR the J and then we want the listening for Kona boy.
>> Yes sir. We share the money and the listening for here right now. Second, >> thank you so much for my people. I appreciate you guys man. I tell you guys every day. God bless you.
>> And thank you to everybody who listen.
Thank you to my mom. Thank you to my dad.
>> Thank you to the whole Ghana. Thank you to you watching TV. Thank you to you seeing me right now on your TV. I love you. May God bless you. Keep listening.
I can't say I love you enough. I go continue the talk. And the music is still coming and it's pop star season.
Watch out.
>> And thank you to all of you listening to us.
I have the team ready and seated. I saw this man in the auditorium. Um man portfolio around here.
Ah, it's true. I saw people asking that question too.
>> People were asking M >> now port but follow you know is it now part of the PCA team >> I think people don't know that I have very good relationship with a lot of artists I mean I mean behind closed doors >> I have very very good >> why why closed doors what what are you doing behind the >> because because they represent that side of the divide people don't see me openly advocating for the gospel >> the gospel people >> yes but then I have very >> you like gospel too I'm I'm on adoniki's See, are you getting it? I'm I'm on a lot of I'm serving on a lot of I mean teams.
>> Okay. So, let's not let's not move away from PC. The PC one.
>> So, the PC one was was because of course I have a very special bond with them.
Good >> especially um her husband.
>> Oh, nice.
>> And so when so when she was announced I think her husband felt uncomfortable joining her for the stage. So Pia insisted that I joined him so he'll feel much more relaxed. You see because of course I mean I was sitting she was seated right behind me. Okay said in order for her husband to feel very comfortable I should join.
So I mean it's because of we have good relationship but portfolio has be so it was just it was just one of those moments you know cuz her husband will be doing um the the visuals and you know she wore something very elaborate.
>> Yes.
>> So I had to assist her with the outfit stuff and all.
Yeah, bro. You know, so one of my red carpet picks for >> night. So that's how come I joined them.
>> Yes. But Chris and I are we have very good relationship.
>> Nice.
>> Z.
>> Yeah.
>> I did not see you there.
>> Yeah. So for for this year I decided to stay at home.
>> Okay. and check and be in the positions of people who are always complaining about how visuals and audio are being served to them at home.
>> Bad.
>> It's a bad representation of the culture. It is a bad representation of the artists themselves.
I don't know whether we can start going into that conversation.
>> We will start but you can give us the teaser. You give us the punch line. No, no, no, no. It's it's okay. what you are doing. Okay.
>> Like this is the lead.
>> Scratching surface.
>> It is the lead.
>> No, no, no. But like >> to the body of the story, you like it.
>> And to to I wouldn't say waste time, but to sit and monitor from both social media >> and uh on air that is >> TV >> TV and all that.
>> All right guys, we are delving into the Teles Ghana Music Awards. Uh send us your comments 90548841039.
Getting deeper into it. This is how we're going to do it.
>> We're going to tackle the artist of the year first.
>> Yeah.
>> When we are done, we get into the event itself from ticketing. We have security.
We have the red carpet and all that.
>> Let's tackle the artist of the year when >> we had Black Sharie in that category.
Sodier, Diana Hamilton, uh Wendy Shay, >> Stone Boy.
>> Yeah.
These were the six people in that category and Blacku won.
>> Yeah.
>> That award on the night. Zil, how did you take it when Blacku was announced winner?
>> I always knew Blackco will win.
>> Oh, you knew?
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
>> When the list came out, >> I was just expecting expecting the bare minimum from Blacko >> not to be nonchalant but actually activate people to vote for him for the artist of the year and he did that.
>> Okay. Um unlike previous years, this year we saw Blackco put out >> maybe every day >> album two days started to um it's not seen anywhere. Um no Ghanian artist has done that wise. Um Black Sheriff >> sure >> but I think Wendy needs better people around her.
>> What do you mean by that?
>> If she really wants to be artist of the year probably next year. Mhm.
>> This is why when the conversation started, we had her on top of conversations.
>> Mhm.
>> There was no conversation that was going on without Wendy or people tagging Wendy >> as possible artist of the year. But what happened at all of a sudden everything went mute.
The conversation was between Medical and Black Sheriff. And I must I must congratulate medical and the team he selected.
>> Yeah.
>> To to to >> talk about or lead the conversations when it comes to this artist of the year. They were cons they were consistent. They were there always in our faces engaging in conversations online and also on traditional media.
But what happened to Wendy?
But I saw portfolio write a number of posts on on Wendy. He's here because he started the agenda.
>> Getting to the latter part of this whole thing.
>> There was no proper conversation or PR about Wendy and the the reason why we should let her win artist of the year.
But I'll sit here and say she started that conversation about this whole artist of the year. Is it that the team didn't realize uh um the weight and the reason why they should continue the conversation or they give up at the early stages or they they just she has a good album before the event?
>> It was only black sheriff and medical.
So what happened to the team? So she should take a look at that.
>> But is portfolio part of the team?
>> He's here.
>> No.
>> Oh, >> but you you you initiated that conversation.
I wanted to I think I didn't really >> get the the type of energy I wanted to be able to streamline the whole PR machinery for them. A couple of times I consistently told bullets I reach out that if you will need me in any form I'm ready because I have a sort in fact this year my pick was not based on the fact that I think Wendy has outdone everyone but I I I had a soft spot for her because not many female artists are able to elevate to that pedestal and I felt this is one of the most fruitful year in her archive as as as as as an artist especially for where she represents. I reach out bullet number of times. Would you need me to do anything? I need to plan because I'm I'm also a brand myself. I need to plan and know. So if you would need me number of times he would be in the states sometimes he say oh portfolio may and I'm like well so at the point in time I didn't get the the energy reciprocated. So I had to back.
you lost your mojo on the way that that's why we didn't see you continue with that agenda because consistently I like do you want me to plan out anything what do you need because I needed to know the vision and direction of the team and where I can come in and where they would need me to come in consistently I have messages I have calls to prove that I engage bullet a couple of times um yes Wendy called Wendy called to appreciate me when I started this whole thing she called yes she she extended a very warm guest certain rewards.
>> He decided to appreciate you in monet.
>> Yes. just like how stone boy did um a couple of times where I I told him I don't do this for the quatcher but I I was I was very I mean I was very touched by how she wanted to appreciate but then I wanted to do with the manager who is a strate who has proven over the years to be one of the best strategies we have involved in this year's um activism in connection with the the artist of the year but I still believe that Wendy was one of our best foot this And perhaps I don't know if the conversation could have changed anything but I believe they could have even generated talkability that would have put her in the top two if it was machinated or engineered according to plan.
>> Okay. Um continue.
>> So um medical come back next year. M >> you see in football the Ronaldo Messi conversation for Balo and all that it looked like it's unfortunate for medical um >> but he he he did good year under review.
>> Yeah he did show that did >> really well was able to win couple of awards and all that. So >> he should keep his team >> continue like this and probably we we would see him in the in the artist of the year conversation come next year.
Um, I've always said or I said it here when we're doing the preview that Dina was out of the race.
>> Um, Stone Boy s let me let me say what I think about Stone Boy. Stone Boy wasn't actively competing for this year's artist of the year. Understandable.
Was like, "Yo, bro, y'all should keep your awards."
>> I think on the nights of the award, he posted something on social media.
>> Yeah. Wishing wishing everybody all the best.
>> I mean now he's a culture authority. So >> I mean he went for a funeral. I mean I think he made a donation 10,000 Ghana donation. Yeah. So >> funeral.
>> Yes.
>> So I think um the competition was between Wendy uh medical and black sheriff and trust you me the best man won the night >> and it couldn't have gone to anybody.
But I feel this year is the artist of the year and as that has come with no controversy. No controversy.
>> There are some people on social media saying hey them rob medical rob medical.
>> No but but that that is from a fanbased perspective that is okay. That is from from a fanatic perspective and that is so okay. But then if you you do your stars um to lay people or active music consumers who consume the music of all the nominees, I think black comes with little or no I can boldly say no controversy.
>> Yes.
>> Would you would you have been surprised if medical had won this one?
>> No.
>> I would have been surprised. medical.
>> Yeah. No, because because it's not as if the first first registering presence among the nominees alone is one factor and the fact that we you see the fact that you see the whole thing is I've always been one of the people who said if we all continue to focus on just the digital streams as a measure of impact of an artist you might be wrong is on the ground especially when we are on is that crazy cutting ac >> yeah he really put in there.
>> Could be the reason.
>> Well, I I think he needed to tap into the energy of of maybe I don't know because sometimes some of us would have tapped into his energy if he had shown us >> that that zeal >> that zeal that >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That zeal. But then like I said, he's he's a a very intentional person. Yeah.
>> And he weighs his options. He is truthful >> to himself and assesses his chance on anything. He he is someone who so intentional that um his junior sisters or brothers um maybe shine shine on as well. And the fact that even in his absence he still finds a way to to be in the conversation is also something applaudable because my stone boy was clearly absent.
>> His energy as compared to previous years yes was not on on that pedesta. But you could clearly see that in the auditorium >> his name was being mentioned as a missing spice >> like if stone boy the if conditional statement of people ah if stone boy was here if stone boy was here you know and the fact that he he he his his win was either the most or one of the most historic wins of the night having bagged the 10 times rigid that is one for the books I getting it so he didn't need to be present to make a statement energy to project his way for >> did you think same >> well I I I never look D's way it will obviously the P when the Pton hold you wouldn't know that she was a serious contender because their own way around this thing they will be they can they can blow your mind with some shock so yes Dina but then obviously not in top contention >> as compared to years where she she >> well he does not campaign for votes on social media Yeah. And people are thinking that ah he doesn't like the award again. Do you think there will be a time Saka would maybe again come fully and then ask people to vote for him for a category in in the TGMA?
>> Yes. I think um this is one of the most fair if only people would um take what I'm going to put across from a very objective um lens.
>> I think it's worrying. It's worrying because if there's any artists that owe that ow some form of um enabling energy towards TGMA, I think Kak should be one of them because um if Kak one of the one of his accolade has always been being the most decated um rapper rapper >> yes in Africa and with the the percentage of decreation he owes a lot to the TGMs and so he is now part of the enablers. is it's a must for him to enable. I getting it. So the nonchalance sometimes comes across like that is the same scheme that enabled you to be the landlord that you are now. So I think sometimes you owe it just as a warm gesture to make sure you are beefing up interest at least for for for the sustenance of the scheme sake. So it's cost for worry. is warren but I don't know why he's taking that posture that but then I saw him do a last minute um like um Dorin said last minute tweet um and acknowledging the night and all that um but then I feel that his fans >> are worried about his nonchalas I know >> for a fact they are worried they are worried >> very worried you go go to go go to them and for the fact that they felt that it is not it is it is in a a dent on his landlordship for him to have been in office of the year and walks away with nothing.
>> No, that that's my is something his fans are worried because at this point in time even if he's not around he should be able to make a statement in the room. He had his whole team representing and walked away with nothing. It means that if he has shown a little interest at least walking away with something will cement the fact that every year he he represent whether he's in the auditorium >> or not. I get it. So I feel I I'll plead I'm a nobody of course because he sat here in front of you and said there are some people he doesn't take SUGGESTIONS FROM. I UNDERSTAND BUT I'M ONLY pleading that he has attained a a particular authority in the space that his involvement in the very scheme that empowered him for him to always write the most decorated rapper will need his involvement at least so that his fans can also give get the bragging right that at least um because I know his fans are worried and so I I don't know maybe the he needs the the skin to engage him proper proper >> I don't know which kind of engagement he's looking out for but if it take because he's a landlord. If you to take the team to take a foot forward and engage him to I mean we should but his non talent is very is costing him and his fans a lot.
>> All right. Thank you. Portfolio uh the MC is still here on hit 103.9. Daybreak hits and we're talking about the Teles Ghana Music Awards. We looking at the award ceremony held over the weekend.
0548841039 is our WhatsApp number. We're taking a look at the artist of the year category.
Uh let me say hi to two of our panel members who are in here already. Uh Mr. Kata, get closer to the microphone. How are you?
>> I'm doing great, Mr. Bar.
>> Everything cool.
>> Hello to all of you.
>> She's left.
>> Yeah, she's left. So she saying hello to all of you.
>> We are back.
>> You are back. Did you watch the TGMA?
Were you there?
>> No, I wasn't. But I watched followed.
Yeah. And then I also joined spaces to actually monitor monitor everything.
Yeah.
>> All right. Ed Mensa Chto is here. He was on the red carpet. He was he was nicely adorned in an outfit. Don't mention the person's name yet. He was nicely adorned in a in an outfit. And he also gave a very brilliant analysis on the red carpet.
Good morning, my brother. How are you doing?
>> I'm fine.
>> Oh, you don't sound fine. Talk like you are fine.
>> I'm fine. I don't eat in the morning. SO THAT'S >> ADAM. ADAM, UH, what time did you get to the Grand Arena on on Saturday?
>> I think I was there around around when I moved to, uh, the other side where they redeem the T, you know, state house. And yeah, I think it was building up. I was there with Miss Bell, Beatstrap, and other people. If it be cool, I go welcome. M >> so I told him so it's freely so she moved from there because if she had sat >> so I saw some people walking >> shut they can shut your dreams >> so I mean it was that point that we came to the auditori the the venue grounds to now go through the process to come to the auditorium >> all right okay Mr. Ka >> uh we're looking at the artist of the year category for starters. Uh what do you make of the win black win?
>> I think um in as much as I I will join the the the chorus of voices that are saying he deserves it.
>> I also feel um he put in enough hard work, a lot of hard work. You see, I've always said the artist of the year category um will always end up being the very conversation we have after the TGM unless for some reasons we have some unlikely event that will happen that will be discussed. Other than that, the category artist of the year will definitely be one which will be of interest. Blu for me is is is is is leaving some blueprints that upcoming artists need to learn. You see he made a statement after winning and the entirety of the statement was based on hard work.
>> So it is not about how connected you can be or who you know. He has said it to you that regardless of all of the things you think he's fortunate to have, you still need to show hard work. Blaco is equally as consistent as we all know.
You see, to win the artist of the year for me was not even the issue. I was looking at him breaking his own record >> after winning five in the previous edition. He came back to repeat it >> to to win five >> five and in that short year. So I was not even emphasizing on the artist of the year. the boy, the artist Blacko, I think he he he he needs to be steadied because he's shown that anytime he puts out a project, you understand that a lot of hands have touched on that project.
You can feel a lot of features, musical technicalities around his project and it it engulfves around this particular artist. He tells you that yes, for so many years or for this few years he's been in the industry, he deserves it.
Don't only look at the year and the review. You look at the energy, the work, the project, the artist in general and you know that yes, this is just um a thank you to the artist after a wonderful year.
>> He's proven that he just he's just not a name in that category. If he's featuring in the category, then he's going for it.
And so it's a statement to anybody who will be in the category particularly going forward with black then you need to sit up >> because I think the subsequent years he wasn't in the category he didn't win >> right >> there >> he was in the category the first year his first year he was nominated just like here new artist of he won the new artist he didn't win the artist of the year >> but look at what he's doing afterward >> whenever he's in that category he leaves a statement Now particular also with this um black thing about artist of the again I hear people saying um his music distribution whatever whatever look let's center the conversation to our local domain >> is he deserving even if we are not talking about the numbers like saying and the stream just look at what he has done within the local jurisdiction is he deserving of the artist of the yes >> you look at the work you look at the ambiance around the artist you look at the the command banding the the songs are all street anthems so legitimately and I think so well that black deserves it.
>> Who were you rooting for?
>> I was rooting for Wendy Sh.
>> Oh, I was rooting for >> Oh, you are part of the shing for Wendy and I was doing a little PR for for for Com Smoke.
>> For Koku Smoke >> for which category too?
>> For the rapper no even particularly about artist. I think when we have time I'll come to that but for now let me just limit it to black host case and the AOTY. I I personally think he deserves it and there are no issues around it for me.
>> All right. Ed Mensto artist of the year black >> one that one black >> he he looks to be ahead and at a very poor position.
>> Yeah. Because I mean if there should be that surprise it could come from Wendy or medical. And >> I I really love the the the tension. I mean you see at a point medical blackco wins medical wins and >> it it was it was becoming something >> and anytime >> medical goes to uh collect the award >> and returns when he gets to the back of the VVIP >> coming to you you hear the noise his fans then when black 2 goes and he's coming when he gets to the chal it was it was it was something else and when they were about to mention the asses over here I decided that I will not even listen to or pay attention to those announcing I I watch medical because he was closer to me >> it wasn't easy I I was just behind them so I was watching black hole and >> at a point you could see all of them >> like this >> yes everybody was was face down like tally then the fans of Blackwood they were some were on the right is right and they were making a lot of noise then I I saw black tell them come down calm down they cool them >> as soon as they mention black chal >> but that was a very good sportsmanship I was watching medic and he was clapping >> clapping for for for black I mean that that was what that was a very positive sportsmanship from uh uh tal it wasn't coins. It wasn't coins.
>> It was you could feel everything. I I really love love it were to be a peer review.
I'm sure they most of them would have voted uh for for black sero album right and the number of hit songs he had on the album just to the streams and the tours in US UK uh part of Europe and Ghana. I mean the programs he was on and his final concert at the University of Ghana sports I was at the >> culture >> people were still everything it tell and his carries a lot of people along and I'm not some I'd like to say congrat step further for him in rapper of the year and I saw that in in >> did you watch the awards ceremony on television or maybe online you can share your thoughts with us We'll be getting into the red carpet the ticketing the 88 841039.
Uh we taking a breather. When we come back, we'll give you security to then we get to red carpet.
Okay. All right. Let me start with did you get to uh the conference center to >> Okay. So I I had arrived at the at the airport around 9 thereabouts. So I'm tempted to believe in 30 minutes I was able to get there. I came from Kumasi right from the airport to to the village.
>> So the time we saw you.
>> Yes. I was coming right from the airport. That that was when I had I had complained earlier that my stylist had disappointed me. So someone had to chase me with a jacket um that Kumasi airport.
So I just flew straight and I came to the auditorium. So I'm tempted to believe 9:40 to 10 there about as the time we met.
Could you recall the time?
>> I think it was 9:40 there about yes. Yes. So I had I had joined um the queue to redeem my ticket as then. Um it was a little bit uh miscomforting.
>> Um I mean you were there, you were there. I came to complain to you. Um I met um pop culture journalist Ole as well who was equally stranded because u the labor force that were handling the redemption of the tickets. I wonder why we would we will use few labor force to handle this mammoth crowd. We went and just one person was redeeming the ticket and there was no one directing where team were was supposed to redeem their tickets and all that. you just bump into regular queue hoping that it's where you ideally you are supposed to be only to get there and be told oh and all that and I think it was it was I think they needed extra hands to do that and they needed to be very detailed about who should be where at which point in time it caused a lot of a lots of miscomfort and I hope subsequently they're able to work on that and as that time it was mitu at the state house and so people who were who were >> it had rained earlier >> I don't I don't though because I was coming from so I didn't know what had happened earlier but then it was very muddy and so people who were going to the red carpet had their their shoes mudded up I mean drowned in mud and all that and so and the sh the shuffle to um the shuttle >> that was I mean transporting people to the was not forthcoming the frequency with which it was coming you could wait you could wait I mean long hours and there was no there was no um I mean car to pick you and all that so I think they should also I mean also see to the the the I mean the transition or the transporting bit of it and that was quite inconvenient for some of us who were supposed to be at the red carpet on time because a lot of celebrities we missed >> the red carpet because of the whole head they had to go through to redeem their tickets. I met a lot of stranded artists, the management of Olive the Boy.
