This video demonstrates that bullet penetration capability increases with caliber and velocity, as shown through systematic testing of hockey pucks against various firearms ranging from .22 caliber handguns to .50 BMG rifles. The experiment reveals that smaller caliber bullets like .22 stopped in the first puck, while larger calibers like .44 Magnum and .50 BMG penetrated through multiple pucks, with the .50 BMG achieving the highest penetration at 13 pucks. The results illustrate that bullet energy and momentum determine how many layers of material can be penetrated, with higher caliber and velocity rounds demonstrating greater destructive capability.

How Many Hockey Pucks Does it Take to Stop a Bullet?Ajouté :
How many hockey pucks would it take to stop a bullet? My name's Parker. Welcome back to Ye Life, where we take anything and everything and we shoot it with guns and we see what happens. We have 50 hockey pucks lined up on our table here.
We have Fred standing by hoping that they will stop a bullet. As usual, we're going to start small with a 22. We're going to work our way all the way up to the 50 cal and see how many hockey pucks it would take to stop each round. Zach, hockey pucks are very durable. They're very hard. So, because these things are so durable, I'm very excited to see. Are they going to shatter? Are they going to melt from the heat? Who knows? Who knows what's going to happen to these things today? Maybe one would be enough to stop a bullet. Maybe. Maybe we'll develop a new body armor today. Zach, Brad, you ready to go?
Why always wear a helmet?
>> All right, let's go.
Stop.
This is the same revolver that I used to take down a grizzly in Alaska.
Zach, we're starting off small with our Ruger MarkV. Very fun little gun to shoot. We have our round of 22. The smallest gun in our arsenal. Could it even go through one hockey puck? I have no idea. Let's see.
>> You got a prediction?
>> Uh, I think it's going to get stuck in the second.
>> All right, let's see.
>> But I could be totally wrong. Could bounce right off. Here we go. 22 versus Hockey Pucks.
See what happens. Zach, look at this interesting little entry. Just kind of swallowed it up. It's almost like a horizontal line there. Did it make it through one? No, Zach.
>> Not even one.
>> It's stuck in the middle of our first hockey puck. 22. One hockey puck. Let's move up.
>> What do we got, bro? Zach, we have our Glock 19. Here's our round right here.
How many hockey pucks would a 9 mil go through? Let's find out.
>> Who is that?
>> This is Carson. He's just shadowing today. Just kind of like seeing everything that you do in your job. Just in case like something ever happened to you.
>> Why? Why would anything ever happen to me?
>> I don't know why. I'm just saying that if something ever did, like just in case we ever needed to replace you or something.
>> Hey, man.
>> Howdy.
>> Very nice guy.
>> Should I be looking for another job?
>> No. Carson, you watching?
>> Ready.
>> All right, here we go. 9 mil against hockey pucks. Let's see what happens.
>> What? Whoa.
>> Look at that.
>> Stuck in there, isn't it?
>> Something out of a museum, Zach.
>> It like was inside the puck and then it like spit it out. Did you see that?
>> Is that the first pug?
>> Uh, no. Because look through three.
>> Oh, man. I think I buzzed an Eagle one on accident. Zach, we got an Apache coming in. Eagle one. This is Ghost Rider. Yeah, roger that. That was a butt dial. Yeah, I apologies. Yeah, you're you're clear to head back northwest.
>> Carson, you see how he wasn't able to get that in focus? Just be thinking about how you would improve that, >> dude. What?
>> You got three strikes.
>> Okay, that's one though, right?
>> That's one.
>> Okay. Okay. So, 9 mil went clean through three pucks and then it went into the fourth, Zack, and then it like spit it out. Didn't come out the back. So, four pucks for the 9 mil. Zack, we're moving up to the 1911. We have around a 45 ACP.
How will this compare to the 9 mil?
Always a fun little rivalry. I'm excited to see. It's a bigger bullet. It's not traveling as fast. How many of Canada's finest will it take to stop it? Let's see. Here we go.
Woo! We got one on the ground. Entry exit. Two into number three. Oh, poked out of number three. And then it just put a little dent into number four.
Zack, look at that thing. I know that the 9 mil technically beat it because it entered into the fourth and then got like spit out. So, I'm going to say 9 mil just barely beat it, but I still think we have to call this four pucks because of this massive dent in here.
Zach, what do you think?
>> Three and a half.
>> 3.5 to the scoreboard.
>> Zach, we're moving up to the revolver.
We're shooting a big round of 44 Magnum barrel load here. How will this compare to our previous handguns? I don't know.
One thing I do know, Zach, >> is that this gun and hockey pucks is bringing back crazy memories for me.
>> 2010 Stanley Cup Finals in Anchorage, Alaska.
>> I'm there on the ice. You played in the Stanley Cup finals.
>> Basically, I was a Zimony driver.
>> Come in after the game and clean up the ice and everything, but a grizzly sneaks into the arena. I guess he smelled hot dogs or something. He's slipping and sliding all over the ice. He's about to take down one of the players. People are freaking out. They're like, "We need a hero. We need a hero."
>> I throw on my skates.
>> I was a figure skating champion. 2007 men's singles, >> Beijing Olympics.
>> And I skate on the ice. He's slipping, sliding. I hit him with one of these.
Then with one of these, then with one of these, and >> night and night.
>> That's a great story, man. When did you make that up?
>> No, I did not make that up. Zach, we're officially going to see some pucks fly, I think. Let's see what happens. 44 Magnum versus hockey pucks.
Wow, one is right at my foot, Zach. It bounced all the way over here. There's one. Okay, so we have three pucks all with entries and exits. Whoa, look at that piece of the bullet is still in this one. So, it went clean through one, two. This one still has a piece of like the bullet in it. And then our bullet got stopped in number four, Zach. and it like turned to the side. Look at that.
>> So, it is technically our new leader.
It's still four pucks, but I think we call that one 4.5, Zach, because the Nimo was not able to stay in the fourth puck. It just kind of bounced off of it.
>> All right, >> 44 Magnum, 4 1/2 hockey pucks. That is really cool. 44 Magnum is in the lead.
Four and a half pucks. What will the mighty Desert Eagle do? We have a round of 50 AE. Brian has finally shown up 30 minutes late, but nonetheless, he's here. We have slow-mo. Fred's set up.
Let's see what happens. There we go.
Desert Eagle versus hockey pucks. See what happens. Firing.
>> Oh, bullet just slices through those first few and that first puck just comes right back at me.
>> Look at that thing, Zach.
>> I see.
>> He's stuck right in between those. Puck came back, hit me in the leg.
>> So, we have one, two, in and out of three, and then it like dented number four. And as you can see, like after we shot, our little bullet was like in between both of them. It kind of ended up right here in the third. Look at that. I think I have to say that the 44 Magnum beat it because our bullet like stopped inside the middle of the fourth with the 44 Magnum whereas this bullet did not make it into the fourth. So I think it's just straight four pucks for the Desert Eagle.
>> What's next?
>> Don't acknowledge the plane.
>> No, I'm not going to acknowledge it.
>> Roger that.
>> Stand by. All right, we have our AR and we are moving up to the green tip 5.56 penetrator round. Let's see what it does. Exact. First rifle of the day. Is it going to beat our handguns or is this bullet going to be going too fast? It'll just break apart. I don't know. Let's see.
>> Here we go. Green tip 5.56 versus hockey pucks.
>> Yep.
>> Slice through those first ones. That first puck just comes back, hits the barrel of the gun.
>> Hockey pucks fly everywhere. I got three at my feet here, Zach. Look at how tiny that entry is. One, two, in and out of three. In and out of four here, Zach. In and out of five. Look how the bullet just turns horizontal. Look at the difference in that entry out of five and then also made it through six. Actually, I see pieces of it right here. Uh, and it looks like it bounced off number seven. So, it beat our Desert Eagle handily. Okay, so Green Tip 556 clean through six, bounced off number seven.
Zack, next up we have the mighty AK-47 and a round of 762 by 39. What will this do to our hockey pucks? Here we go. AK versus hockey pucks. Ready?
>> Yep, that looks good.
the force from that.
That was like so much more powerful than anything else. Okay, Zach, we gathered all of our pucks here and our AK-47 went through 1 2 3 4 5 six. Clean through six and then hit number seven here, but did not go out the other side. So, it is tied uh in the exact same position as the AR. Let's move up, Zach. We're moving up to the 12 gauge. We have a slug. Big boy. What is the big boy going to do against our hockey pucks? We may want to keep an eye on him because I'm expecting them to go flying. This is going to be fun. Let's see what happens.
Zach, do you think this is safe?
>> I don't know. How would I know?
>> Okay, you ready?
Huge flash from the barrel of the shotgun slammed into the pucks. Okay, Zach, we have scavenged all of the hockey pucks from the ground. And based off the slow-mo, you can see it went clean through number one here. Number two, the slug went clean through the W.
This plastic wad is just stuck behind in number two. And then the slug bounced off of the third puck right here. And then here's a look at our gnarly slug.
So only basically two and a half for the slug. It went clean through two, bounced off the third. A lot of power from the slug, but not a ton of penetration.
Moving up to the gold scar, we have a round of 308 here. The AK-47 and the AR-15 are tied at the top of our leaderboard. Let's see what the mighty gold scar will do to our hockey pucks.
Here we go.
Sorry.
Fred just got demolished, Zach.
Enormous flash from the 308. I was not expecting that at all. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was not that. I did not think it was just going to push Fred backwards like that. All right, Zach. We have our pucks counted up here and the 308. Look at how tiny that entry and exit is. It went through 1 2 3 4 5 entries and exit start to really rip through right here. Clean through six and then clean through seven. And these last few are untouched. Not by much, but the SCAR is our leader at clean through uh seven pucks. Moving up to the mighty 30 six sack. What a rifle. What a round.
What will it do to our hockey pucks?
Could it beat the gold scar? Let's see what happens. We have 15 pucks lined up here. Fred has lost both of his arms.
>> Got a mosquito on your back, Parker.
>> Get it. Grab it. Get it. Ah.
>> Oh, >> you got one, too.
>> Here we go. 30 out six versus hockey box. All right. You good, Zach?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm just not expecting him to get blown back like that every time. Wa. Not as big of a muzzle flash on that, but cool little shock wave. Okay, Zach, we gathered up all of our hockey pucks here. Fred went absolutely flying. And just like the previous guns, we have very small entries and exits in those first few pucks, and it just progressively gets bigger and bigger. We have 1 2 3 4 five pucks. And then you can see that part of the jacket right here in number six.
Right here in number six. There is a small chance I'm missing a puck, but we looked all over here. I think we have to say that it went clean through five and got stopped in number six. Let's move up to the 50 cal. Zach, this is the moment everyone has been waiting for. We are downrange. I'm geared up. Fred is armless down there and yet he is bravely standing in behind 20 hockey pucks. I have a round of 50 BMG. I'm loading it into the mag right now. Will the 50 cal beat our current leaders, the AR and the AK? I'm expecting hockey pucks to go flying. Let's see what happens.
Eagle one, this is Ghost Rider requesting clearance to engage target.
Roger that green light to go. Hang on, Fred.
Fred.
>> Oh my goodness. Enormous flash. Fire and sparks everywhere. All of the hockey pucks just disappeared.
>> Zach, we have hockey pucks raining from the sky.
>> You smell that?
>> Oh, I smell them.
>> It's extremely strong. I literally have a hockey puck at my feet. It flew back here like right to where I'm at.
>> Hit like dead center. Zack. Fred is gone. And I see two of our 20 hockey pucks. No hole through Fred. So, at the very least, we know the 20 hockey pucks did stop it. Zack, it was like redneck Easter out here at the farm. And we found one at a time all of our hockey pucks around the farm. We got a little bit of everything. We got some clean entries and exits. We have some that were just obliterated in half. We got a piece of the jacket. Our 50 cow went through all in all 13 hockey pucks. So, it was by far the winner of today's challenge. It has been slacking the last few weeks, but the 50 cal came out in full force. 13 hockey pucks for the 50 cal. Today's winner, the Stanley Cup winner of 2026 is the 50 cal. And also, Fred is also the winner because he survived today's video. Thank you guys for watching. Enjoy watching the Stanley Cup playoffs on NBC. And thank you to the NHL for sponsoring today's video. NHL Slapshot.
