Ndodana Tshuma back in court - Lopang Alamu shares more
Added:British Zimbabwean man arrested in connection with the deaths of his wife and two daughters is expected to be back in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court today. And Dudana Nchumase's case has been postponed. Uh, this was a week ago for the verification of his legal status and address and today it gets underway and SABC News reporter Lupanga Lamu is there and has more details on it.
Lupang, good morning.
>> Yeah, and a very good morning. That's correct. Uh, the state postponed Nchumase's case to today. You also remember that, uh, he is uh, making an appearance in two separate courtrooms in the same court. The first case being that of the charge of, um, him being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and that was on the day of his arrest. He faces that charge as well as, uh, for the state to verify his address and legality in the country as you correctly mentioned. The second case then being that of the extradition and has to do with, uh, the communication between Interpol London as well as Interpol Pretoria. Now, we do know, that they have about 40 days that having police service, um, is expecting some documents from Interpol London to basically effect the start of the extradition process. That would be supplying the South African police service as well as Interpol Pretoria with, um, enough and concrete proof that he is indeed wanted for serious charges in the United Kingdom.
And now, uh, as to where that communication is at the moment, we'll be speaking to the South African police service to just get confirmation as well as an update as to how far that part of, uh, the process is. Then, we do know that that charge of, uh, being possessed or or being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm could give him, um, a maximum of 15 years in prison. Now, what What that look like, um, as opposed to does this then mean that he he stays in South Africa to conclude that charge or that trial rather or do they find out what it is that makes it more important? Is it the case in the United Kingdom and that's basically where we are currently at. We did speak with Tumelo's legal representative last week to find out what they are trying to do.
Are they trying to ensure that he stays in South Africa to face others charge which could give him a lesser sentence as compared to the charges he faces in the UK for that triple murder charge of being accused of murdering his wife and two daughters. So quite some complexities legal complexities with this case is a concerned Leanne but we get to hear at around 10:00 a.m.
when the case is expected to start in one of the court rooms. He will then be transferred to the next court room but we'll be keeping an eye on that story and giving our viewers an update as the day progresses.
