Sihmai cleverly uses a "cozy" aesthetic to deliver a sharp critique of the very influencer culture she inhabits. It is a rare example of a reading vlog that offers genuine intellectual substance beneath its polished, seasonal surface.

COZY SPRING READING VLOG 📚🦢| new releases, mystic falls, library run, new 5 star read & more! 💐Hinzugefügt:
[music] >> Sometimes I forget that I live so close to Mystic Falls and I can always just come here.
>> [music] >> Hey besties, welcome or welcome back to my channel. I'm Angel. Welcome to another vlog and in this vlog we're just going to vibe per usual. We'll also be reading new releases and I recently have started yesteryear by Carol Plummer. I believe this book was released early April. I'll probably put it somewhere on the screen, but I feel like everyone is reading this right now and some people are finding it kind of controversial and some people are like so obsessed with this book. So I had to see what was going on plus it just sounds really intriguing. This book is about Natalie.
She's this traditional American woman and she has a very seemingly perfect life. She lives on a farm, she's an influencer, she has a cowboy husband.
She has a very full family with they think six children. Everything is pretty much perfect until one morning she wakes up and her husband isn't her husband, her kids aren't her kids, her home isn't her home and it's the year 1855 and she realizes that something is extremely wrong and she needs to get out of there immediately. So yeah, I am on chapter 14 and so far I am really enjoying this.
It's kind of diabolical but also kind of funny. That's kind of what makes it funny because it's so diabolical. So far we have gotten her backstory of when she went to college, of how she met her husband, when she had her first child.
So we're given multiple timelines because in the present she is already woken up in 1855 and things are just crazy. Like she is fully aware that things aren't right and she keeps saying where am I, who are you and her kids are like you're my mom, you live here and same with her husband. Like they just think she's probably going through it mentally and she's thinking that she's been like kidnapped. So, yeah, I'm still not sure what this could possibly be, but so far I'm super intrigued and like I said, really liking it so far.
So, we are going to continue reading. I just wanted to intro this vlog because I didn't want to get too far into the book. But yeah, welcome to the vlog.
I'll probably speak to you guys either later or tomorrow because I have a lot of editing to do.
Guys, I did hitless curls, well, really just flexi rods, and I'm trying to let it fall. But anyways, let's get to reading. But first, cuz it's just annoying.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> This book is so diabolical like the way [music] chapter 18 starts out. There comes a point in every marriage when every woman realizes My cat is crazy.
>> [laughter] >> There comes a point in every marriage when a woman realizes that the man she married is a freak. This is inevitable.
This cannot be avoided. The only real question in the matter is what type of freak your husband will be. Literally diabolical.
>> [music] >> Okay, so it's a lot later in the day, and these are how the curls fell. I'm going to have to do the flexi rods again. We're going to do it tonight. I filmed my May TBR video, which should be up before this one, so go check it out if you haven't already. It's a little sneak peek right there, but don't mind my clothes in that chair.
We don't got to talk about it. What we can talk about is Yesteryear. Listen, Natalie is I hate my man final boss.
Like she hates that man. And honestly, she kind of just is hating her life at this point in time. She is still going through her backstory like how everything came into fruition, how she met her husband, they got married, she met his family, and they had a baby, and she just wasn't connected to the baby when she first had her. And the man that she married, I cannot I I'm really bad with names, okay? I don't I don't remember his name. Um did she say his name? Caleb. She is realizing how big of a mistake that she made in marrying him and just like basically because he doesn't want to work. He doesn't want to work, but he does come from a rich family, so he just is okay with doing nothing because he already has money. So, she's trying to get him to get a job, and then they end up coming up with the idea of having a farm. So, this is where the farm Yesteryear comes into place. And with the present timeline, the timeline where it's 1855, I still don't know what's going on and why that's happening. So, I'm really interested to see like what's up there. Yeah, that's pretty much it so far. I am really enjoying this book.
It's very funny. Yeah, I'm having a good time. I don't think it's anything like five stars, but it's a pretty fun read. So, we're going to lock in tonight after I shower and get some editing done. We will be locking in and having a cozy reading night. Those are just the best nights ever. So, we're going to do that.
Okay, I'm actually going to do a different method because the flexi rods are uncomfortable to sleep with and it's already curly, so I feel like maybe I don't have to do it.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> I'm obsessed with this mug. It's so cute.
Peppermint tea is like my favorite right now.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> I've heard great things about this book.
So pretty.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hot hot >> [music] >> baby.
>> [music] >> Hot hot Hot hot >> Before we get into the book updates, I need to show you these pieces that Quince so kindly gifted me. Like, first, get into the color.
Get into the colors. Like, it's a great lineup already. And if you don't know what Quince is, I'm about to put you on because Quince is a brand that values quality over price because quality shouldn't be a luxury. Quince chooses premium materials and designs that stand the test of time. Not only do these pieces look the part because I know you're probably admiring the look.
I mean, these pieces are beautiful, but it's one thing to look good and another thing to feel good. But, I'm here to tell you that Quince products feel nicer and last longer on purpose.
Sustainability is built into everything they do. They go out of their way to choose organic materials, environmental conscious packaging, and ethical business practices. And not to mention that they offer this at a fraction of traditional retail prices. Dare I say a win is a win. I'm going to link all these pieces down below. And new customers can get $20 off their first purchase when they sign up through email. Again, I'd like to thank Quince so so so much for these pieces. I can always to wear them. These are so perfect for spring and summer.
Thank you so much. Okay, you guys, I have indeed finished Yesteryear, and it was such a good book. Like, there were so many times I actually laughed out loud. Like, this was the satire that I needed.
This is the satire that I love. I will say I wasn't obsessed with the ending.
Um, it definitely made sense what was happening. And then towards the end, it had me feeling mixed emotions. Like, as unlikable and as infuriating Natalie is, I did feel bad for her just because we are in her POV. So, we know what she's feeling, know what she's thinking. But, it definitely was what's best for the kids and ultimately what needed to happen. I just be feeling bad for people sometimes, okay? That's just me.
Bless you.
My cat sneezed.
And you guys, I'm having the What is it called? The lime slush Alani. So, so good. I think this is my favorite flavor so far.
But yeah, back to the book. I felt even worse for the children because of how they grew up and it really just makes you realize that so much of our traumas come from childhood.
And to just imagine and see what it's like to have those type of parents and seeing how it affected them. But yeah, such a good book. I'm going to rate this four stars. And the next new release I'm starting is No Matter What by Cara Bastone. And I just feel like we're matching.
And we're just giving spring.
I love that for us. But yes, I believe this was released in March 2026. And it says, "Sometimes love sends you back to the drawing board. A traumatic accident tests the limits of love and resilience as a couple fights to rebuild what was broken and rediscover themselves in this tender, slow burn romance." And that's all I'm going to read from the back. I'm trying to go in as blindly as possible, but I've heard such amazing or raving reviews about this book already and such amazing things about this author. Like so many people love her books and I will say if I enjoy this one, I will check out her other ones. But I feel like I'm really going to like this one. It just seems like something I'd like. Like I love a second chance romance and they're trying to save their marriage. So, it's kind of like a second chance. Yeah, I am excited for this and I can't wait to see what I think. You guys, I just got word that they put Wuthering Heights on HBO.
I have yet to see it. And I did originally plan on reading the book first, but I heard the people that read the book first really didn't like the movie, but the people that watched the movie without reading the book, they loved the movie. So, I think I'm going to watch the movie before reading it so I can have a good experience.
Yeah, plus I hear they're quite different anyway, so I might not even I might not even spoil it for myself, honestly. I'm also planning on getting some of this red as well, but I might not. I'm having a strawberry margarita.
So I don't know if I'm going to get any reading done, but this is my Friday night. Let's see if I like Wuthering Heights. I might pop some popcorn, too.
What a great night.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> You guys, sometimes I forget that I live so close to Mystic Falls and I can always just come here. But anyways, I originally came here because I had a job interview, got the job.
Yay. Yay me. And now I just finished eating lunch. Super good tacos. But now I want to find somewhere to sit and read, but I also want to record and like not be and not be scared to film in front of people because there's a lot of people here, obviously, because it's kind of like touristy because everyone loves The Vampire Diaries. Yeah, so we're just going to walk around town. Stay a while.
Find somewhere to sit and read. I mean, I could sit and read here actually. This is a cute little bench. I'm like in front of a flower shop right now.
Look at all the flowers.
And the flowers would match my book. I might just stay here because it's like shaded and not too many people. So, we shall see. Hopefully, I don't get in trouble. I don't know if I can stay or record right here, but yeah, there definitely are people though.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, so I have not given you guys any updates and I am on page 126 chapter 11.
I I'm really liking this book. I love how it's written. It's like she's talking to the readers. Like that is like one of my favorite types of writing. I love being talked to.
I love being included and I love Wrath as a character and I just love that him and Ross are besties and I haven't really even explained. Okay, so Wrath is Vin's brother. Vin and Ross are married but they're having problems in their marriage after a tragic accident. So yeah, now that we have the characters and our dynamics are explained, I'm going to continue with what I like about the story. Okay, because I kind of went in blindly. I just read this part, so yeah.
Anyways, I feel like I relate so much to Vin. Like I'm also not a huge sharer of my feelings, my thoughts, my emotions and this is told in Ross's POV but we do get Vin's like feelings because it's like he's talking to people. Like I think he's like in a group talking to people but we don't know that yet but I'm just putting two and two together. So that's not fact. I don't know yet. Um but that's the vibe that it's giving. But when we do get to those parts, it's like music to my ears. Like I just think it's just so sweet and just like I just feel it so deep in my bones.
Like I I just I I relate to him and there was a part where he was like loving Ross makes him think of death because like he always knew that he'd have to outlive his brother just because the type of person he is. Like he would want he wouldn't want his little brother to have to deal with that. But him and Ross being best friends, he finally felt like he'd be okay if he died because of Ralph would still have Ross.
If that makes any sense, I'm probably not explaining that right, but like I don't know. I just I just love him.
And then when Vin is described I mean when Ross is describing Vin, I can't speak.
When Ross is describing Vin, she often says, "He doesn't say a lot, but says it all." And she's talking about his actions and I feel that is my actions will say it all if I don't say it. And I just I just love it.
I'm having a good time and I'm going to continue reading and I did in fact just oil my hair. I don't know if it's going to be a hair wash day. It should be, but like I always think that it's going to take forever when in reality it doesn't.
It's just me thinking that it takes forever that makes it takes forever.
It's honestly the procrastination.
So, I need to get it together.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, you guys. So, I have like two chapters left. We're about to finish this right now. I'm still really, really enjoying this book. But, I will say a lot of it just has to do with miscommunication.
And not only that, but the lack of listening and comprehending because those two they go hand in hand. Like, communication means nothing if the person doesn't listen and understand and comprehend what you're saying. So, yeah, that part is kind of irritating because it's like so much could have been avoided if like they were communicating and understand and understanding each other. But, ultimately as a reader knowing they went through something so traumatic to the point where they stopped talking to each other and communicating with each other, that is bound to happen. So, I understand. Especially because they do have a lot of PTSD. So, a lot of the topics they don't even feel comfortable when it's brought up. So, yeah, they've just been having a hard time. But, if I got to a point where they did communicate and they did realize like what the other person interpreted things as. And it's like finally, but I just love them together.
I think they're so sweet and it just warms my heart. I'm just happy that they're finally getting back on track.
But, yeah, I am going to finish this and then I don't think I'm reading another book for this video because I just don't really want to read any new releases right now. I kind of am like I don't know what mood I'm in. I'm in like a horror thriller mood, but I'm also in like a fantastical fantasy mood. Like, for some reason I keep thinking of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I have no idea why I'm so interested in that now, but I tried to watch the movie, but I think I want to read the books first. So, yeah, but I don't know. So, we shall see because my mood reading tendencies all over the place. But, anyways, let's finish this book because I'm just so excited to see where they end up.
Draw me like one of your French girls. I was waiting for someone to make that reference. [music] That's all I was thinking, too.
Last chapter. We're finally getting to the part where I was wondering about who Ben was speaking to. We're finally here.
At least I know I've got something [music] to die for.
You're so cute. You're so sweet.
Okay, and that wasn't the last chapter, actually. So, I've been mistaken.
You guys, we have now finished No Matter What, and I'm debating on what I want to rate it. Like, I don't want to be annoying about it.
Like, if I'm not being too picky, I think it is a five-star because it's rare that a romance with like no toxicity, you know, back and forth, no will they or won't they get together.
Like, you guys know what I like in my romances for this just to be a Like I said, a second chance. I do like a second chance, but it's not at all toxic. So, I don't know. But, for it to make me feel such things, like, that means something. So, I do think it is a five star. I think it's so raw and real and beautiful. And I love watching them rediscover themselves and just watching Ben better himself and change for Ross.
I loved it. And just the way that Ben talks about Ross, like, I know sometimes we're like, who cares what a man has to say?
You know you you know you know we be like that. But, when it comes to them expressing how they feel about their woman, I shut up and I listen because I love I love love. I love that. And he loves him some Ross. And I love that for her.
I love when someone is like, my woman my woman my woman.
Yeah, let's talk about her.
I want to hear. And just them all, Vinnie, Ross, and Raffi overcoming they've been through and watching them deal with it instead of pretending like it didn't happen.
I loved it. Cara Basso, and I wasn't familiar with your work, but now that I know, I I will be checking out her other books because I've heard such amazing things. So, you guys might know what you're talking about. Okay, I might just listen. I might just listen.
So, yeah, that is a good reading week if you ask me. Like, it's been a little over a week actually, but we're just going to say week. A week just sounds good. A week just sounds good, but my reading vlogs are typically longer. But, I might be actually able to do weeks now because I'm no longer nannying, so that doesn't take as much of my time. We shall see. But, yeah, we have a five star and I believe When did I rate this? I rated this like 4.25 stars. Really great books. I don't know if I wrapped this up good. But, yeah, definitely a great read and a very interesting take on tradwives as influencers. And I heard like the author did a lot of research on tradwife influencers. So, that's a very interesting within itself. I know people are saying that it's kind of like that one influencer, but I don't know. But, I very much enjoyed the story. And yeah, we are going to wrap up this video now because I'm Like I said, I'm not reading another new release right now because my reading mood is just all over the place, so I need to find something that I want to read. So, I might just be mood reading for my next couple of vlogs. We shall see.
But, okay. I'm going to go. I hope you guys enjoyed [clears throat] hanging out with me cuz I always enjoy hanging out with you. You guys are my besties. We're like this. And if you made it up to this point in the video, you are a real one.
But, also comment down below this emoji just because I like to see who watched my videos all the way through. And it's kind of like an inside joke that only the besties know. So, leave that down below so I can see who my besties are. And okay, I'm going to go.
Happy reading, besties. I will see you in my next vlog.
My next video. No idea what's coming next. So, I need to get on that and plan out videos. So, that is what I'll be up to.
