Home ownership is not always the financially optimal choice; individuals with unstable income, unpredictable job situations, or the need for geographic flexibility may benefit more from renting, as the short-term financial benefits of ownership may not outweigh the value of flexibility and security in their specific circumstances.

Why These Renters Chose NOT to Buy a HouseAñadido:
trying to figure out like what's the consensus on home ownership. You guys might have a good perspective being from the West Coast because it is so much more expensive out there.
Um, do you do you guys own your own home?
>> No.
>> We rent.
>> Okay, have you ever considered it or >> Oh, yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> time.
>> What keeps you from doing it?
>> Instability.
>> Have you ever tried to get pre-approved for a mortgage to to maybe put your hat in the ring?
>> We looked into it, but then when we were like, well, do we want to stay there? Is about like are we going to be able to get the value if we sold the house?
>> Did you did you hit a snag somewhere or what was it like?
>> When we were going to move in together and we were exploring the idea of what would rent be a month versus what would if we wanted to joint buy a house and like what would that per month cost beat us and then we just decided based off a bunch of different factors that buying at that time didn't make sense.
>> Okay.
>> So, but the process was easy.
>> That's great to hear and that's how it should be.
Cuz really the the concept is simple.
You're just collecting documents and personal info, building a file, boom, here's your options, boom, boom, boom.
Right? So, what did you find that the monthly payment difference for rent versus ownership was just a little too much?
>> Yeah, mostly because we are locals and know people and so we get kind of >> We get the >> We get the local discounts on you know >> The only perspective I could offer that you may have already thought about is is what is that long-term perspective.
>> Terrible, yeah.
>> Yeah, like you you're going to be better off long-term if you buy. You're obviously taking a hit in the short-term.
Um but you guys in your situation like are you ready to commit to being out there long-term?
>> Job is uh not consistent. So, I definitely work in startups, so >> Okay.
>> The idea of moving is just constantly being threatened, so >> We want to be able to live in a house off of just my salary only.
>> Yeah.
>> With our mortgage without having to like refinancing get that number and assume that we're going to get that number and that's part of the limiting factor.
>> Based off of your situation, I I feel like you guys made the right choice. I'm not going to lie to you. I think you know, like I'm Mr. Mr. Mortgage, Mr. Buy the house, but I feel like you guys are in a position where you kind of want you you value that flexibility, >> Yeah.
>> you know, more than the long-term financials of ownership, at least for now. For all the more gig type workers where you just don't know where the next income's coming from, where your employer's coming from, and you got to be flexible with where you live sometimes. You got to be okay with being somewhere for a couple weeks at a time sometimes. That was the case with Rob there. He might be working on a project one year and then have to shift off over to another project the next year and it could take him anywhere. When you have that kind of movement in your life, you know, buying a house, you know, unless you're okay with having a rental remotely, it might not make sense to buy a house.
So, it really made a lot of sense for them to be renting.
