STI Twisted Block | The Craziest Boxer Engine Issue!

[00:00:00]We got skater hater 182 who says, "That's a crazy story with that 2013 STI. What really caught my attention was the weird twisted block issue causing multiple spun rod bearings. I've honestly never heard of something like that before." Now, keep in mind this is a boxer engine and we've got to trust what the customer says the first time they come in with something. An overheat was not one of those issues that they told us about, but the bearing was spun and the car was towed in. We probably didn't have the whole story because the owner wasn't driving it. It was his kid driving it. So, it's possible that either the bearing spun because it overheated or the overheat caused a really bad engine issue that spun the bearing.

[00:00:42]Now, both of those conditions, if you get a lot of heat into that flat engine, you got to remember these are split cases. So, the two cases lay opposed in that boxer format and if you think about it, if you get any sort of warp twist on that block, that's going to change how the crankshaft sits in relation to the rods, the main caps, and everything kind of that's in there. Again, this isn't something that I even really ran into or even knew about just doing light research. I had to really dig in to kind of figure this out and this is only after we were on our second full rebuild on this motor.
