Circe, daughter of Helios and a water nymph, grew up as an outcast among gods and fell in love with a mortal fisherman, transforming him into a god to be with him forever; when he abandoned her for Scylla, she transformed Scylla into a monster, leading to her exile on Aeaea where she became a powerful witch who transformed sailors into pigs, raised Odysseus's son Telegonus, and ultimately chose to become human to experience mortality and love fully.

I Recapped Circe Like a Messy Greek NymphHinzugefügt:
I'm [music] just a man who's trying to go home. Then go.
>> [music] >> Hi humans, gather around because the gods are being problematic again. So, have you heard about Circe? Because let me tell you, that nymph was messy. Circe was the daughter of Helios, Titan of the Sun, and some bitter little [music] water nymph that clearly never liked her. She grows up surrounded by gods, but never really fitting in. Not the prettiest [music] compared to her siblings, not the most powerful, not particularly loved, quite [music] rough.
Then, and hear me out, she falls in love with a fisherman, a human, not even a king, just some damp guy that smells like sardines. And honestly, I get it.
Now, if you think that's embarrassing, don't worry, it gets worse. Little Miss Desperate discovers herbs [music] and witchcraft and literally turns him into a god, so they can be together forever.
Kind of iconic and slightly concerning.
But the second this dude becomes immortal, he immediately stops caring about her and starts [music] chasing another nymph instead. Now, this nymph, Scylla, was gorgeous, annoyingly gorgeous. So, Circe grabs some herbs, pours them into her bathwater, and next thing you know, this girl's got 12 legs, six heads, and is eating sailors off cliffs. You've probably heard of her, living in the rocks, screaming, terrible vibes. Circe feels guilty after that and [music] confesses everything, but Helios doesn't even believe her at first, which is crazy because her brother casually goes, "Oh, no, yeah, she definitely did it. Uh, by the way, I can raise the dead now." Excuse me? And somehow Circe is the problem. So, Helios finally believes her and punishes only her >> [music] >> for using magic. He exiles her to the island of Aeaea, where she lives alone for years. Well, mostly alone. There were rumors Hermes kept visiting her, and listen, I'm not saying I saw anything, but I did hear giggling. Toxic vibes though. Then one day her [music] sister calls for help and sends this gentle captain to fetch her. Cute guy.
Anyway, apparently her sister slept with a bull. Yeah, and [music] gave birth to the Minotaur, a giant flesh-eating monster child. And Circe is still the most problematic child. So, Daedalus, yes, the cute engineer/captain, builds this massive labyrinth to trap it. You know you know you know Daedalus?
Yeah, his child, his kid, Icarus, the one that flew too close to the sun and then his wings melted? Yeah, that one.
Circe returns to Aeaea, where the gods keep sending [music] exiled nymphs to her island whenever they commit crimes like, I don't know, falling in love, having opinions, being mildly inconvenient. That's actually when I met her. We lived on the island together for a while, though she barely spoke to us, preferred lions and wolves over us.
Valid, honestly. Then the ships started arriving, sailors, pirates, men. [music] And Circe was kind at first until she learned men are men. So, the more sailors arrived, the more pigs the island mysteriously had. I mean, do the math. Oink oink. Then he arrives, Odysseus, captain, war hero, chronic liar, short king. This man had already spent years trying to get home after the Trojan Wars. Yes, uh war with [music] Achilles, Patroclus, and all those dramatic sweaty men screaming on the beach. Odysseus should have been home with Penelope. Instead, this man spent a month on IIA, then a year.
I'm just a man who's trying to go home.
Then go, sir. Your wife is at home fighting for her life trying to protect your throne, your son, and her sanity from filthy, disgusting men. But sure, take your time. Anyway, Circe gets pregnant. She's Athena immediately shows up like an emotional HR manager saying, "Hey, so that child is dangerous. Hand him over." And Circe basically goes, "Absolutely the [ __ ] not." So she raises Telegonus alone on the island constantly protecting him from gods, monsters, prophecies, precipices, [music] all of it. And when he grows older and decides he wants to find his father, Circe panics [music] so hard she literally goes to the bottom of the sea to get poison from the deadliest creature alive. Motherhood 101. Then Telegonus returns with news, terrible news, because he accidentally killed Odysseus. He's dead. honestly, the man survived war, monsters, gods, and Poseidon himself only to get killed by his own son during a misunderstanding. The irony. Somehow it gets messier because Telegonus also brought back Penelope and Telemachus with him. Yeah, the wife and the legitimate son. Family dinner on this island must have been insane. And here's the thing, Odysseus spent years desperate to go home. But once he got there, he couldn't connect with [music] Penelope anymore, couldn't understand Telemachus, couldn't just be human again. That man belonged to war and chaos more than he ever belonged to his family. So, when he dies, nobody's exactly devastated. [music] Telegonus feels guilty, obviously, which is why when Penelope asks to come to Hyayya, >> [laughter] >> Hyayya, he agrees not to kill Circe, not for revenge. No, because Athena is already looking for the next great hero, and she's eyeing Telemachus like Scylla eyeing anything that moves that she can grab and eat. But, Telemachus icon basically tells her, "Actually, I don't want glory. I saw what it did to my father." Athena, for an immortal, ain't losing any time. Turns to Telegonus instead, and Circe is fuming, but accepts his decision. He sails with Athena, not for the glory, but for the freedom to have his own stories. Last thing I heard of him, he was dating this handsome general. Cute couple. Then, Circe decides to confront her father and asks to be free from [music] her exile cuz she also knows tea about him. And I mean, whose god or titan didn't make a mistake to throw the first stone? We all messy psychos. Penelope stays at the island, the new witch of Ayayya. That's where I met her, actually. I don't know why my dad keeps sending me there.
>> [snorts] >> The [ __ ] Telemachus sails with Circe to kill Scylla, and next [music] thing you see, they have two daughters, and they're traveling around.
>> [music] >> The last thing I hear about Circe was that she passed. Yeah, the witch was so powerful, she made herself human to grow old, to love fully, to actually live.
And honestly, good for her. Couldn't be me, though. I'm living forever. Dumb hoes.
>> [music] [groaning and screaming] [crying] >> Sorry, guys. I'll see you soon. Thank you guys for watching. Please leave a like, comment and subscribe. Let me know if you want me to do any other video like this. This was more fun than it should have been. I don't know. I'm thinking on Hunger Games from the point of view of a capital dummy. I don't know. Something like that. I think it would be fun. I don't know. Outlander from the perspective of the rock. Maybe I should stop. Thank you guys for watching. I'll see you soon.
Bye.
